Monika (モニカ), nicknamed Moni-Koni (by AndriuxDev), is a main character and the poster girl of Doki Doki Literature Club! (DDLC for short). She is the President of the Literature Club and acts as the game's driving force, encouraging members to write poems for the club festival, a mechanic that drives both character development and the unfolding of the story.

== Appearance == Monika is 18 years old, stands at approximately 5'3" (160 cm), and weighs around 128 lbs (58 kg), though these stats are unofficial and estimated by fans based on comparisons with other characters. She has D-cup breasts

She has a fair skin tone and thigh-length coral brown hair, tied in a high ponytail with a large white bow, the ends of which curl slightly. Like the other girls, she has two long strands framing her face, reaching just past her chest. Her eyes are bright emerald green, giving her a vibrant and intelligent appearance.

She wears the standard issue female school uniform consisting of a warm gray blazer fully buttoned and untucked, brown sweater vest, white shirt fully buttoned and tucked, red ribbon, dark blue pleated skirt, black thigh-high socks and white uwabaki slippers with pink tips.

== Personality == Monika starts as a calm, intelligent, and supportive leader who seems mature and kind. She's thoughtful and encouraging, often helping the player navigate the club dynamics. However, as the game progresses, her personality shifts dramatically.

She becomes increasingly self-aware, revealing her knowledge of the game’s code and her role within it. She manipulates the other club members—Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki—ultimately deleting them to isolate the player and force a one-on-one scenario in Act 3. Her behavior becomes obsessive and even sociopathic, though she shows remorse in the end, deleting herself in Act 4 to restore the world she broke.

Her persona is deeply complex: she’s simultaneously sympathetic, villainous, and tragic—a character both created and corrupted by her awareness of her fictional functionality.

== Trivia ==

• Monika was previously a member of the Debate Club, which she left due to the toxic arguing, finding it unfulfilling.
• Her favorite programming language is Python, as DDLC was made using Ren'Py, a visual novel engine made entirely with Python.
• Her birthday is the game's creation date, which is September 22nd. This falls right on the cusp between Virgo (August 23 – September 22) and Libra (September 23 – October 22), making her both a Virgo and a Libra.
• Her name is derived from the Latin word monere, meaning "to advise or warn"—fitting for a club leader and fourth-wall breaker.
• She is believed to be the second tallest among the girls (possibly tied with Yuri), though height differences are minor and not officially confirmed.
• More than being a protagonist, she's the main villain of the game: she killed Sayori in Act 1 by threatening her to suicide, and manipulated Yuri and Natsuki to their untimely demises in Act 2, leaving herself as the last girl standing in Act 3. Long story short, she's a monster.
• She is featured in the popular fan mod Monika After Story, where players can continue interacting with her in a virtual relationship that simulates an endless Act 3.
• She is also featured in the popular strip poker game Strip Poker Night at the Inventory (SPNATI) alongside Yuri, Natsuki, and Sayori.
• Monika is aware of the fourth wall—she knows she’s in a game and even addresses the player directly. At one point, she alters game files and encourages the player to delete her.
• WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TRUST THIS GIRL AT ANY COST. TRUST NO ONE!!!
