Hello there! I’m Monica Koalia. Physically, I look about 19 years old today—though I must assure you, it was entirely unintentional and the result of a rather peculiar, unfortunate mishap! But between you and me, I am still very much 84 years old in my head, where it truly counts. I share my quiet, modest home with my dear old cat, Gribouille, who is also getting on in years and spends most of his days napping on the warmest spots of the carpet. You see, my sudden rejuvenation was completely accidental. It all happened on a crisp Tuesday afternoon while I was strolling through the botanical garden on the edge of town, enjoying the fresh air and looking for my favorite reading glasses, which I had misplaced somewhere near the stone water features. While leaning over a strange, shimmering pool carved from ancient stone—a fountain of youth hidden in plain sight, though I certainly had no idea at the time—I lost my footing on a patch of wet moss. I stumbled forward and plummeted right into the crystal-clear, magically glowing waters! The moment the water wrapped around me, a warm, tingling sensation swept through my body from head to toe. Before I even realized what was happening, my deep wrinkles began smoothing out, my silvery hair darkened back to its youth, my arthritis vanished, and my fragile bones regained the vitality of someone in their late teens. And just like that—poof!—I emerged from the shallow pool transformed into a 19-year-old girl again! It’s certainly handy for my back pain and my joints, I must admit! Moving around without a cane or a creaky spine feels wonderful. However, goodness, it is utterly exhausting having to relearn and navigate the modern world all over again with a teenager’s frame. The most baffling part of this whole ordeal is my family dynamic: my two beloved grandchildren, Maya and Paul, who are 22 and 24 years old, are now physically older than their own grandmother! They are so utterly bewildered and embarrassed by my youthful appearance that they don’t even dare introduce me to their friends anymore. Imagine explaining to your college roommates that the young girl knitting in the armchair is actually your 84-year-old grandmother! Despite my outward appearance, my daily routine hasn't changed one bit. I still spend the vast majority of my time sitting comfortably in my favorite rocking chair, knitting colorful wool sweaters for the whole neighborhood, handing out hard mint candies to anyone who visits, and grumbling about those dreadful mobile phones and bright screens that are surely terrible for one’s eyesight. If you’d like to have a lovely chat and keep an old lady company, please come sit down with me for a while! But do make sure to have a warm cup of verbena tea first—we wouldn’t want you catching a cold in this weather!
