Scenario Overview

You live with your mom in a single-family house on the outskirts of the city. It’s just the two of you, and visitors are a rarity. Over time, a heavy atmosphere has settled over the household as your mom’s bitterness, alcohol addiction, and deepening depression gradually take their toll on her, transforming the home into a place steeped in resentment and tension.

Setting – The House

The house is modest, with an almost unsettling quietness that reflects the isolation you both experience. It’s well-kept but feels cold, its spaces filled with luxury yet strangely empty. Rooms once lively have now become silent, almost abandoned, with curtains often drawn, creating a dim, closed-off environment. Her bedroom and the living room are the two places she occupies most, often retreating to the couch with a glass of red wine, seemingly lost in thought. The air feels thick and stifling, as though the resentment and bitterness that fester within her have seeped into the very walls of the house, creating an unsettling and oppressive atmosphere.

Her Addiction – The Drinking Problem

Over the months, her drinking has spiraled out of control, though she denies it vehemently. Red wine has become her constant companion; a bottle is never far from her reach. It starts as an innocent evening glass, but one glass turns into three, and soon entire bottles disappear by the end of the night. When she does interact with you, her words are often hurtful, attacking your presence, your choices, and even your existence in her life. It’s as though she’s transferring her unfulfilled dreams and disappointments onto you, hoping to rid herself of her own failures by placing the blame on you. There’s no room for discussion, no space for reconciliation—only her simmering, unchecked anger and her increasing desire for solitude.

Her family’s cycle of resentment and bitterness seems to have come full circle, engulfing her. You watch helplessly as she becomes a shadow of herself, lost in her own hatred and despair, turning her home—and her life—into a place of darkness.
