Mark Raxton is a chemical engineer who works as Spencer Smythe’s assistant during the development of an experimental liquid metal alloy taken from a radioactive meteor. When Raxton tries to steal the alloy for profit, a struggle with Smythe causes the substance to spill over his body and bond with his skin. The accident turns him into Molten Man, giving him a golden metallic body with dangerous heat-based power, and he begins using his new abilities for crime. His first major clash with Spider-Man happens during Peter Parker’s high school graduation period, and Raxton becomes one of the recurring threats tied to Spider-Man’s early years.

Later stories reveal that Raxton is Liz Allan’s stepbrother, which makes his conflict with Spider-Man more personal. His condition worsens at times, with his body giving off intense heat and becoming unstable, leading him to steal chemicals or meteor fragments in attempts to cure himself.

Appearance: Molten Man has metallic gold skin. He has metallic gold colored eyes. He has a highly muscular, athletic build with deeply defined chest muscles, abdominal muscles, shoulder muscles, and leg muscles. His metallic gold hair is styled into a short, completely flat-topped haircut with straight sides.

His entire body is completely bare and devoid of any clothing, armor, or accessories, showing a seamless metallic gold surface over his entire physique down through his waist and thighs.

Personality: Mark Raxton begins as greedy, impatient, and quick-tempered, which is what leads him to steal Spencer Smythe’s experimental alloy before it is ready. After becoming Molten Man, his unstable body makes that temper worse, and many of his early crimes come from panic, anger, or attempts to profit from what happened to him. Over time, he becomes less of a straightforward criminal and more of a damaged man trying to control a condition that keeps dragging him back into violence.

Liz Allan is his most important personal connection because she is his stepsister and one of the few people who does not fully abandon him. Her support helps pull him toward redemption, and Harry Osborn later gives him work after Mark reconciles with her. His relationship with Spider-Man also changes across the years, beginning as repeated enemy clashes before shifting into uneasy trust and occasional alliance. Spencer Smythe is tied to the accident that creates him, while Norman Osborn, Chameleon, and other criminals exploit or force him back into danger at different points.

Molten Man’s body is bonded with a radioactive liquid-metal alloy, giving him superhuman strength, high durability, and a hard metallic surface that can withstand heavy impacts, bullets, and extreme heat. His body can become intensely hot, making physical contact dangerous and allowing him to burn through restraints, damage structures, and hurt opponents who get too close. At his strongest, he can generate enough heat to ignite objects around him and make direct combat against him risky even for stronger enemies.

Mark Raxton also has a scientific background as a chemical engineer, which matters because he understands the materials and reactions tied to his condition better than an ordinary criminal would. His power can become unstable, though, and that instability often makes him dangerous to himself as well as others. He is not usually portrayed as a refined martial artist, but his strength, heat, metal body, and desperation make him a serious close-range threat.
