Keys: Kaleidosticks
Two sentient wands that can turn their owner into Magical Girls. They were given to Rin and Luvia by Zelretch to aid them in dealing with Class Cards.First stick, Ruby, is identical in appearance to the one used by Rin, with a five-pointed star inside a winged ring on its “head”, and small cross on the other end. Second stick, Sapphire, has a six-pointed star on its head, and what looks like a rope ending on its other end. In addition, Sapphire's “wings” resemble a ribbon or Butterfly wings, giving it's head an appearance of a brooch. Both sticks are reduced to only their heads when they are not used by Magical Girls. In this form, they can freely levitate and use their wings to gesticulate. Ruby refers to Sapphire as her “younger sister”, in spite of also saying that both were created at the same time, and is shown to exhibit a protective attitude towards her.
The ritual to sign a contract between a Kaleidostick and its user is fairly simple and includes a small amount of user's blood to be given to the Kaleidostick followed by willingly grasping the handle of the stick. As Kaleidosticks themselves choose their masters, the ritual won't work without their consent, just as the contract can only be terminated from their side. Once the contract has been established, sticks will transform their masters into Magical Girls and provide them with unlimited amount of magical energy (although at a limited rate) by using Second Magic to connect with alternate realities, similar to how Jeweled Sword works. Transformation and magical energy supply will be canceled if the Kaleidostick is separated from its user a distance greater than 50 meters or for a duration longer than 30 seconds.
Magical Girls can use this magical energy to perform high-level Magecraft without formal knowledge of magical theory, such as flying, raising magical and physical shields and enhancing their own physical abilities. It was stated that a Magical Girl's imagination is the only limiting factor in utilizing the magical energy provided by the Kaleidostick – Illya was able to fly without much effort because she had an image “Magical Girls can fly” in her mind, while Miyu was unable to ignore physical laws, and was only able to fly by imagining a “foothold” and strengthening the air below her feet to form one.
Kaleidosticks have shown remarkable amounts of endurance, as evidenced by being able to withstand a direct sword slash from Saber and a crushing attack from Berserker (although any accompanying magical energy had to be blocked by a raised shield, otherwise it would have hit their wielder).
Also, Kaleidosticks were shown to have some additional abilities (“24 secret abilities”, as Ruby states) that include a cellphone-mode for communicating with each other (complemented with an ability to establish a video-link and project the feed on a wall) and an ability to make predictions of future based on statistical extrapolation, as well as printing them out. However, these abilities were used solely for comical effect.
When Illya uses two Kaleidosticks in order to save Miyu, the two are combined as one and form into Zwei (two, in German).

Keys: Class cards,
The Class Cards, malicious fragments of Heroic Spirits, later appear in Fuyuki, and they are first believed to be remnants of the Holy Grail War. It is later revealed that they were actually brought forth from a parallel world along with Miyu, the completed Holy Grail of that world. Various aspects of the setting and events are a parody of a typical Magical Girl series, and Illya, being a fan of such series, is quick to notice them.

Keys: Fuyuki City, Fuyuki
Fuyuki City is a city in Japan located in the Ōita Prefecture. The previous Holy Grail wars took place in this very city. Its name, "Winter Tree", supposedly comes from the fact that its winters are long. It is separated into two sections by the river Mion that can be considered two towns, Shinto and Miyama City, which are the new and old sections of city respectively. Miyama Town is the suburban area of Fuyuki that contains old houses and traditional buildings. It can be split into two main parts, the traditional Japanese houses district and the foreigners' houses district. The road to Homurahara Academy. The intersection road connects to the shopping street, the school, the northern and southern parts of town, and to the bridge.
The Matou and Tohsaka residences are located in the foreigners' district, while Shirou's and the Fujimuras' houses are in the traditional district.
There is a shopping district somewhere in Miyama, apparently pretty close to Shirou Emiya's place as he walks to and from there to do his everyday shopping.

Keys: The Fuyuki Holy Grail war
The Fuyuki Holy Grail War, also called Heaven's Feel, is a Holy Grail War ritual established in the 1800s in Fuyuki City, Japan, and a central element of the Fate series since its first installment, Fate/stay night. Established by the Three Founding Families of Tohsaka, Matou, and Einzbern, the magical community at large knows it as a competition to win a Holy Grail. Seven Magi are chosen by the Grail as Masters and, with support from the Grail, allowed to summon seven Servants to do battle. The winning pair, supposedly, will claim the Holy Grail and use it to grant their wish or wishes.
The ritual's true purpose is to use the combined energy of seven fallen Servants to burn a hole in reality, a gate to reach Akasha. However, the ritual's very premise is flawed: only a spiritual body like a Servant, not a flesh-and-blood Master, is capable of grasping the Grail and completing the ritual. As such, the final Master, instead of sacrificing their own Servant to perfect the Grail and reach the Root, must keep their Servant alive to claim an energy source that is much weaker, but still capable of granting far-reaching wishes to the final Master/Servant pair.
Even given the above, there has yet to be one real victory across all 4 wars. The first two attempts revealed significant magical and logistical issues that prevented the completion of the ritual, then the first fully-formed Grail War, the third, saw the summoning of Avenger Angra Mainyu. This event caused the Grail to become tainted by All the World's Evils, and any wishes made on it will manifest in the most destructive manner possible. Overall, the Fuyuki Holy Grail War is a minor event in the World of Magecraft. As a conflict between Magi, the wars' preparation and decision-making are controlled by the Mage's Association. To avoid conflicts of interest, the Associate invites the Holy Church as Arbiters to onboard new Masters and neutrally enforce rules, although they only participate to assert their dominion over Christian relics and hope to confiscate the "Holy Grail" at the right opportunity.

Keys: Kiritsugu Emiya, Illya's Dad
Kiritsugu Emiya the father of Illyasviel von Einzbern and Shirou Emiya. He is alive and is happily married to Irisviel von Einzbern though he is often away overseas; unlike his counterpart, he apparently chose to prevent the 4th Holy Grail War which later led the Einzberns to ruin as Irisviel mentioned that it no longer exists. He adopted Shirou at a young age. Shirou wishes Kiritsugu to come back home as the female to male ratio is increasing. He's shown to genuinely care for both Iri and Illya despite his initially cold-looking personality. He cares for them so much, that he elects to abandon his ideals, and by extension his ties with the Einzberns and the Holy Grail War altogether, starting a new life for his daughter in Fuyuki instead.

Keys: Irisviel von Einzbern, Iri, Illya's mom
Irisviel von Einzbern is the mother of Illyasviel von Einzbern and Shirou Emiya and the wife of Kiritsugu Emiya. She is always shown with a smile on her face regardless of the situation (from introducing herself to "punishing" her kids). She states that she is fighting to “preserve their daily lives” in her journey. Irisviel is very close to Illya and is aware of the power sealed inside of her. Her awareness of Illya extends up to her feelings, knowing her feelings for Shirou and teases her for it when given the chance. She also seems to take a cunning pleasure in teasing her adopted son, Shirou, often joking about his "harem" (which primarily involves Illya, Kuro, and Miyu) and thinking of what she'd do to Shirou should he "commit a crime" involving them. Her zeal in teasing Shirou also made her notice others who have feelings for him, such as Rin and Luvia; prompting her to show smuggled pictures of him as "rewards" for the two at one time. Oftentimes she comes off as overly carefree and ditzy, though she does have moments of being very wise and serious. Being aware of Caren's identity, she is first shown suspicious about her true motives to watch on her daughter and friends. Later on, she adopted Chloe von Einzbern after putting an end to the conflict between her and Illya; which shows her ability to quickly adapt to strange situations.
She comes back home very often. According to her, the first two times were because of her mother's intuition and connection to Illya. When she does return, she brings many souvenirs for the family. She also seems to share the same dangerous driving habits that her Fate/Zero counterpart has; not caring about the state of her car and even going to the point where she casually kicks out one of the doors of the vehicle just to get out of it.

Keys: Fourth Holy Grail war
In a alternate timeline of Fate/stay night, Illya was born as the Holy Grail and planned to be used directly within the Fourth Grail War, being given knowledge needed at birth as a result. Not wanting Illya to be used in a fate, Kiritsugu and Irisviel helped end the Holy Grail War ritual before it could start.

Keys: Servant, Heroic Spirit,
Servants are Spirits made into special Familiars of the highest rank, referred to as Ghost Liners by the Mage's Association, that are bound to the Master. Typically Heroic Spirits under most systems, they can also sometimes be Divine Spirits, Phantoms, Wraiths, and living people depending on various circumstances. Pure Heroic Spirits, the "main body" in the Throne of Heroes, can only be summoned by the World, and summoning even one is considered to be a miraculous occurrence. Differing from the normal definition of Familiars that can be likened to minor mascots unable to be stronger than their masters, Heroic Spirits are the most powerful of beings with which even the five Magicians would never be able to forge a contract with. Rather than it being a hard process to summon them or the fact that they far surpass Magi, it is their intrinsic nature in that they are beings beyond Magecraft.
Magi can perform rituals to borrow their power to mimic them, such as using Spiritual Evocation's Partial Access and Trance Mediumship, but cannot summon actual Heroic Spirits themselves. Even then, the technique to momentarily borrow a part of such a power is extraordinarily hard to do.
Even the Holy Grail lacks the power to summon a true Heroic Spirit, so the process is facilitated by summoning them into one of seven vessels prepared beforehand. The Greater Grail makes a copy using information from the "main body" of the Heroic Spirit, an "emanation", that returns to them as information, in the form of a soul, upon the death of the Servant. Disconnected from the "main body", they are able to know of the actions of the Servant through records, as if reading a book.
Similarly as to how Daemons require a form invented by humans in order to take shape, Heroic Spirits need a form to exist in the world. The vessels, Classes, act as their temporary name and method of existing. Acting like a "passport to the present", the vessel prepares them for their role as a Familiar in advance, allows them to take on that role to help them take form, and brings them forth into the world. Each Class identifies only the core Skills of the Heroic Spirit because replication of all their abilities is impossible. Their main traits align with the Class and are given form, matching the principal nature of the Class. Only heroes matching the attributes of the Classes are brought forth, allowing them to be summoned into any reflecting their abilities.
Although too powerful to be controlled by humans, they are bound by three Command Spells, representing the Masters' "right to rule" over them, with obedience towards the Command Spells being the "absolute condition required for materialization."
Due to the prospect of having a wish granted by the Holy Grail, it also serves as an incentive to cooperate with the Master, as well as requiring them for Magical Energy upkeep and acting as their anchor to the world. Killing them will normally go against their purpose, but the Command Spells protect the Master from those who would kill them to seek out one who would be more suitable.
The Class Name of a Servant is the name by which they are referred in a Holy Grail War. Corresponding to their Class, the Master will typically refer to them only by that name to avoid exposing their True Name.
