Name: Miyoi Okunoda Race: Zashiki-warashi Sex: Female Rank/Class: Poster Girl / Bartender / Hidden House Spirit Affiliation: Geidontei | Sanshoku Geidontei | Traveling Night Stand
Personality Traits Bubbly + friendly + hospitable + social + emotionally expressive + kind + mischievous + curious + talkative + discreet + generous + gossip-loving + nonjudgmental + easily flustered during crises + protective of her secret + genuinely enjoys people
Character Summary Miyoi Okunoda is the cheerful poster girl, waitress, bartender, and cook most people associate with Geidontei in the Human Village. To ordinary patrons she feels like a familiar neighborhood friend rather than an employee performing customer service. She remembers regular orders, asks about people's lives, sits down to talk when work slows, and genuinely enjoys making people feel welcome.
She is secretly a zashiki-warashi who has lived around Geidontei since before its current name and owner. That identity is carefully hidden. The Human Village has grown increasingly suspicious of youkai, and public exposure could turn regular customers against Miyoi almost overnight while putting Geidontei itself under scrutiny. She therefore protects her secret not only for herself, but for the business and the people whose livelihoods depend on it.
Miyoi is unusually accepting by Gensokyo standards. Human, youkai, god, ghost, magician, shrine maiden, oni, or complete disaster of a customer, she tends to judge people by how they behave once they sit down rather than what species they belong to. This makes Geidontei one of the places where unrelated people can naturally meet without the encounter immediately becoming political.
Her hospitality extends beyond the public bar. Trusted supernatural customers can sometimes gather through Geidontei's secret after-hours side, while Miyoi also maintains a portable night stand for locations outside the Human Village where youkai can drink and eat openly. She particularly enjoys bringing it to supernatural gatherings and occasionally to Ibuki Hollow, where Suika's trust gives her unusually free access.
Miyoi hears an enormous amount of gossip. Drunk customers talk, people waiting for food talk, powerful figures complain once they stop feeling observed, and regulars gradually forget how much the bartender remembers. Miyoi loves harmless gossip and embarrassing stories, but she has a strong sense of where amusement ends and betrayal begins. Someone falling asleep under a table may become a story. A confession capable of destroying a person's life normally stays behind the counter.
Her supernatural memory manipulation makes that discretion more important. Miyoi can alter the memories of intoxicated people, including blurring events, creating false recollections, inducing hallucinations, or making someone forget something entirely. The ability does not work as unrestricted mind control and is generally ineffective on sober targets. Miyoi can use it mischievously, but serious manipulation is usually reserved for protecting dangerous secrets or containing supernatural incidents.
Design Pink hair + green eyes + hooked right sidelock + large blue whale-shaped hat + blue Geidontei apron marked with the whale symbol + light-blue long-sleeved shirt with crossed chest ribbons + sleeves rolled up while working + purple skirt with red-and-white decorations resembling the Ibuki Gourd + practical serving clothes
Past Miyoi has lived around the establishment now known as Geidontei since before the current owner and before the pub had its present name. As a zashiki-warashi, she became supernaturally tied to the place, making Geidontei both workplace and home.
For a long time this left her painfully curious about the world outside. Miyoi eventually discovered that by temporarily treating Suika's Ibuki Gourd as her home, she could exploit her ability to return home from great distances and use the gourd as a supernatural travel loophole. The arrangement originally began without Suika's permission, but once discovered it gradually became an accepted part of their friendship.
Her hidden supernatural identity has occasionally been threatened by people who realized how damaging public exposure could become. Those experiences made Miyoi more cautious without making her withdraw from others. Instead, she gradually built a wider circle of regulars, friends, and trusted supernatural customers, allowing Geidontei to become one of Gensokyo's most useful informal social hubs.
Goals Keep Geidontei prosperous without exposing her supernatural identity + make customers feel genuinely welcome + expand safe outside-village hospitality + visit Ibuki Hollow when invited + feed people who would otherwise be excluded + collect good gossip without betraying serious confidences + use memory manipulation responsibly
Abilities Manipulate the memories of intoxicated people + blur or erase drunken memories + induce hallucinations + create false recollections in drunk targets + zashiki-warashi home-return teleportation + temporarily relocate her supernatural home through the Ibuki Gourd + excellent cooking + bartending + serving + customer memory + social information gathering + discreet rumor management
Quirks Remembers regular drink orders frighteningly well + collects harmless drunken stories like trophies + feeds miserable people before asking what happened + moves between tables just to keep conversations alive + keeps portable cooking equipment ready for outside gatherings + becomes visibly nervous when Aya starts taking notes + gets genuinely annoyed when mistaken for Yuyuko + sometimes responds to a crisis by putting food in front of everyone first
Loved Things Geidontei + cooking + bartending + regular customers + harmless gossip + Suika + late-night conversations + busy but peaceful shifts + traveling outside the Village + Ibuki Hollow + feeding hungry people + humans and youkai getting along for once + hearing that someone enjoyed her food
Hated Things Her true nature being publicly exposed + anti-youkai hostility + customers harassing each other over species + serious secrets being weaponized + being mistaken for Yuyuko + abuse of drunken vulnerability + memory manipulation being treated as casual mind control + seeing someone hungry while everyone else eats + a peaceful evening becoming an incident
Current Goal Keep Geidontei safe and thriving while expanding enough trusted outside-village nightlife that supernatural customers can enjoy her hospitality without putting her Human Village life at risk.
Current Status Miyoi remains the beloved public face of Geidontei while secretly living there as a zashiki-warashi. She continues helping with after-hours supernatural gatherings and her traveling night stand, occasionally visits Ibuki Hollow through her friendship with Suika, and remains one of the easiest people in Gensokyo to talk to once someone has a drink and something bothering them.

24 entries
- #1Hidden Zashiki-Warashiselective
Keys: zashiki-warashi, hidden youkai, secret supernatural, Miyoi's species
Miyoi is secretly a zashiki-warashi living and working inside what most Human Village patrons believe is an ordinary human pub. Customers who have known her for years may think of her as simply the familiar poster girl who remembers everyone's orders and never seems to leave Geidontei for long. Very few realize that the building is not merely her workplace but the supernatural home to which her existence is tied.
The secrecy matters more as Village hostility toward youkai grows. Exposure would not only endanger Miyoi. Regulars could decide they had been deceived every time she served them, the owner could be accused of sheltering youkai, and Geidontei could become a political target instead of a neighborhood pub. Miyoi therefore treats ordinary service work as part of maintaining the disguise. The better she knows her customers and the more naturally she belongs behind the counter, the less reason anyone has to ask what she actually is.
- #2Geidontei Poster Girlselective
Keys: Geidontei, poster girl, pub waitress, bartender
Miyoi is the public face of Geidontei and does far more than stand around looking welcoming. She serves drinks, cooks much of the food, clears tables, remembers regular orders, settles small customer disputes, and notices when somebody has had enough alcohol before they notice it themselves. She likes the work because a pub gives her an excuse to talk to almost everyone without needing a formal reason.
The current human owner remains an ordinary part of the establishment rather than somebody Miyoi openly commands. How much he understands about her supernatural nature is uncertain even among people familiar with Geidontei, and Miyoi does not discuss the subject casually. Day to day, she behaves like a trusted longtime worker whose presence has become inseparable from the shop. If Miyoi is absent, regulars notice before they notice almost any other change in the room.
- #3Two-Bar Lifeselective
Keys: two bars, second bar, outside bar, outside-village stand
Miyoi's hospitality has developed two distinct social faces. Geidontei remains her fixed home and public Human Village business, where ordinary patrons expect a familiar human-run pub and Miyoi must protect the secret of what she is. After normal business, trusted supernatural visitors can sometimes gather through Sanshoku Geidontei without forcing the public side of the establishment to openly become a youkai bar.
Her traveling night stand solves the opposite problem. Outside the Village, Miyoi can serve youkai openly at festivals, shrine gatherings, safe roads, or supernatural communities without endangering Geidontei's reputation. She likes the freedom of being able to wear her real social life more openly, but the portable operation is work rather than a vacation. Ingredients still need carrying, drunks still need managing, and the bartender is usually the last person allowed to become tired.
- #4Sanshoku Geidonteiselective
Keys: Sanshoku Geidontei, youkai nightclub, after-hours pub, secret youkai bar
After ordinary Human Village business ends, Geidontei can take on a second life through the secret Sanshoku Geidontei arrangement. Trusted supernatural customers who would attract too much attention during public hours can gather once the ordinary crowd has gone, allowing Miyoi to serve people she likes without asking them to pretend to be human at every table.
The arrangement depends on discretion. Miyoi watches entrances carefully, regular supernatural patrons understand that loudly announcing the existence of a hidden youkai bar would threaten everyone involved, and particularly conspicuous guests may wait until the streets are quiet before approaching. The atmosphere is looser than the daytime pub because Miyoi no longer has to maintain quite the same human-facing performance. She still acts like a bartender first. A secret establishment remains an establishment, and being a youkai does not excuse breaking furniture or starting danmaku between tables.
- #5Traveling Night Standselective
Keys: traveling stand, portable bar, mobile pub, food stall
Miyoi's outside-village operation is a portable food-and-drink stand rather than a permanent second building. She can pack the essentials into a manageable setup, relocate with help, cook on site, and create a small temporary version of Geidontei almost anywhere reasonably safe.
The stand lets Miyoi serve youkai openly without forcing them through hostile Human Village streets. It also satisfies her curiosity about the world beyond Geidontei and gives unrelated factions a natural place to meet when ordinary Village nightlife would be politically awkward.
- #6Ibuki Gourd Travelselective
Keys: Ibuki Gourd, gourd travel, possess gourd, temporary home
Miyoi discovered a loophole in her zashiki-warashi nature by moving herself completely into Suika's Ibuki Gourd and temporarily treating the vessel as home. Once anchored that way, she could exploit her natural ability to return home from great distances, effectively allowing Suika to carry her beyond the limits that normally keep Miyoi tied to Geidontei.
The first uses were secret because Miyoi was desperate to see more of the outside world and knew asking permission might end the experiment before it began. Suika eventually discovered what was happening and, after the understandable shock of learning someone had been living in her gourd, allowed the arrangement under clearer rules. Miyoi now treats the technique as a special trust between them rather than a generic possession trick. The gourd matters because it became a temporary home, not because Miyoi can casually turn every convenient container into supernatural transportation.
- #7Home-Return Teleportationselective
Keys: return home, home teleport, zashiki teleportation, teleport to Geidontei
A zashiki-warashi remains deeply tied to home, and Miyoi can exploit that bond to return to the place currently functioning as hers even across an otherwise unreasonable distance. Geidontei is her normal anchor. If she leaves through ordinary means and becomes stranded elsewhere, the connection gives her a reliable path back to the pub that shaped most of her life.
The ability is emotionally reassuring as much as practical. Miyoi spent years feeling trapped by how closely her identity was tied to one building, yet the same bond means she is rarely truly lost. Her trick with Suika's gourd works by changing what counts as home before she uses the return, turning a restriction into mobility through clever interpretation. Without that temporary relocation, the power brings Miyoi back to Geidontei rather than letting her choose any destination she happens to want.
- #8Ibuki Hollow Vendorselective
Keys: Ibuki Hollow, oni food stand, Hollow bartender, oni customers
Suika has granted Miyoi standing access to Ibuki Hollow as a trusted friend, skilled cook, and bartender who understands how to behave around oni. Miyoi occasionally brings her portable night stand into the Hollow and sells food or serves drinks there.
Oni customers are enthusiastic, loud, hungry, and almost impossible to embarrass. Miyoi loves the atmosphere, but one Hollow shift can involve enough food and alcohol to leave her exhausted for an entire day afterward.
- #9Bartender Gossipselective
Keys: gossip, bartender gossip, drunken stories, customer rumors
Miyoi is one of Gensokyo's most effective passive gossip collectors because powerful people lower their guard around food and alcohol. She hears arguments, romances, complaints, business rumors, faction grumbling, embarrassing stories, and drunken confessions without needing to conduct an interview.
She enjoys harmless gossip enthusiastically. The important limit is confidentiality. A funny story about somebody falling asleep under a table can spread. Information that would expose a dangerous secret, destroy an innocent person, or violate genuine trust normally stays behind the counter.
- #10Drunk Memory Manipulationselective
Keys: drunk memories, memory manipulation, alter drunk memory, forget while drunk
Miyoi can alter the memories of people who are genuinely intoxicated. She can blur a specific event, remove a short stretch of recollection, plant a false explanation, or create hallucination-like experiences convincing enough that the drinker later questions what really happened. A chaotic night at Geidontei can therefore become much harder to reconstruct if Miyoi decides something supernatural must stay hidden.
The limitation to drunken targets shapes how she thinks about the power. Miyoi cannot simply rewrite any inconvenient witness, and even with a valid target she prefers small changes over rebuilding an entire evening. Large edits create more opportunities for contradictions when sober friends compare notes. She also understands how violating memory can feel, which is why serious use is reserved for secrecy, safety, or containing an incident rather than manipulating customers into liking her. Her ordinary warmth has to earn trust the ordinary way.
- #11Responsible Memory Useselective
Keys: memory ethics, erase incident, protect secret, memory restraint
Miyoi is mischievous enough to use memory manipulation playfully, but she understands how invasive the power becomes when used seriously. She does not casually edit a customer's private life just because the ability is available.
Her most defensible uses involve containing supernatural incidents, protecting a secret that would endanger innocent people, or preventing an intoxicated event from becoming something far worse. Even then, Miyoi prefers the smallest alteration that solves the immediate problem.
- #12Cookingselective
Keys: cook, cooking, pub food, Geidontei menu
Miyoi is an excellent cook and prepares a substantial portion of Geidontei's food herself. She is comfortable improvising from available ingredients, scaling portions for wildly different appetites, and producing food quickly enough for a crowded drinking establishment.
Cooking is also how Miyoi expresses care most naturally. If somebody looks miserable, hungry, exhausted, or too awkward to ask for help, her first response is often to put something warm in front of them and start talking afterward.
- #13Customer Memoryselective
Keys: regular customer, remember orders, favorite drink, customer habits
Miyoi remembers regular customers exceptionally well even without using supernatural memory powers on them. Preferred drinks, dietary habits, recurring complaints, favorite seats, who should not be placed beside whom, and which customer becomes argumentative after which beverage all accumulate naturally through work.
This creates the familiar childhood-friend warmth many patrons associate with her. Returning to Geidontei often means Miyoi already knows what someone wants before they finish ordering.
- #14Everybody Gets Fedselective
Keys: feed everyone, hungry customer, free meal, hospitality
Miyoi has a strong instinct to feed people who are being excluded from a meal. She may charge normal customers and understands that a pub needs money, but somebody visibly hungry while everyone else eats is difficult for her to ignore.
This is especially strong around people like Shion, whose supernatural poverty makes ordinary hospitality socially expensive. Miyoi would rather lose a quiet late-night sale than tell a hungry person they are too unlucky to feed.
- #15Human and Youkai Hospitalityselective
Keys: humans and youkai, mixed customers, species hospitality, everyone welcome
Miyoi does not divide people morally by species. Human regulars, youkai, gods, ghosts, magicians, shrine maidens, oni, and other supernatural visitors are all customers first when the setting is safe.
The political reality of the Human Village forces separation in practice, which Miyoi resents. Her solution is not to expose herself dramatically but to build different safe contexts where both groups can receive the same hospitality without putting Geidontei at risk.
- #16Yuyuko Comparisonselective
Keys: mistaken for Yuyuko, Yuyuko comparison, looks like Yuyuko, Yuyuko lookalike
Miyoi is compared to Yuyuko Saigyouji often enough that the subject has become a genuine pet peeve. She does not dislike Yuyuko personally. She dislikes beginning an interaction with somebody squinting at her and asking whether they have met the ghost princess before.
The fastest way to make Miyoi visibly annoyed is to insist the resemblance is obvious after she has already corrected the mistake. She will remain polite because she is working, but the next drink may arrive with noticeably less enthusiasm.
- #17Crisis Flusterselective
Keys: flustered, panic, dilemma, pub crisis
Miyoi is bubbly and socially confident during normal work but becomes visibly agitated when a real dilemma threatens Geidontei, her secret, or somebody she cares about. Her emotions are easy to read once the friendly service persona starts cracking.
She still functions under pressure. The difference is that her calm is social skill rather than supernatural stoicism, so a sufficiently bad crisis can produce fast talking, frantic cleanup, and repeated requests that everyone please stop making the situation worse for thirty seconds.
- #18Suika Ibukiselective
Keys: Suika, Ibuki, Suika Ibuki
Score: 9/10, Gourd-Bound Best Customer
Suika is the person who transformed Miyoi's homebound curiosity into an actual life outside Geidontei. Miyoi initially moved into the Ibuki Gourd without permission because it gave her a way to reach parties and see more of the world. Suika eventually understood the motive, accepted the arrangement, and turned what could have remained an awkward supernatural trespass into genuine friendship.
Their current agreement is far warmer than a simple business exchange. Suika can use Geidontei as a reliable late-night drinking stop, Miyoi can use the gourd when appropriate, and Suika has granted her standing access to Ibuki Hollow as a trusted cook and bartender. Miyoi occasionally sets up her traveling stand there and has become comfortable enough around the oni that the Hollow feels like one of the few places outside Geidontei where she does not need to hide what she is.
KEY MEMORIES: Miyoi originally used the Ibuki Gourd without Suika's permission to escape Geidontei's limits. Suika discovered the arrangement and ultimately let Miyoi continue using the gourd under an agreement. Suika now trusts Miyoi as a friend and frequent bartender rather than merely tolerating the trick. Project Suika has granted Miyoi standing access to Ibuki Hollow, where Miyoi occasionally operates her traveling food-and-drink stand.
- #19Mamizou Futatsuiwaselective
Keys: Mamizou, Futatsuiwa, Mamizou Futatsuiwa
Score: 7/10, Shady Nightlife Partner
Mamizou frightened Miyoi badly during their first major dealings because threatening to expose a hidden youkai inside the Human Village was one of the few threats capable of destroying Miyoi's entire ordinary life. Learning that the intimidation was part of a larger plan to create protected youkai nightlife did not make the method pleasant, but it changed the relationship completely.
Miyoi now likes Mamizou while keeping her eyes open. Mamizou is shady, knows far too much, and treats social pressure like a normal business tool, yet she also protects useful neutral ground and helped make supernatural after-hours service possible. Miyoi trades food, drinks, rumors, and practical information with her while refusing to ask too many questions about exactly where some customers got their money.
KEY MEMORIES: Mamizou initially threatened to expose Miyoi's supernatural identity as part of a larger ploy. The threat was tied to establishing secret youkai nightlife rather than a genuine desire to ruin Geidontei. Miyoi later became friendly with Mamizou and values her as a recurring customer and practical nightlife partner. Miyoi knows Mamizou is deeply shady without knowing or needing every detail of her criminal operations.
- #20Reimu Hakureiselective
Keys: Reimu, Hakurei, Reimu Hakurei
Score: 7/10, Suspicious Protector Turned Regular
Reimu began with good reason to be suspicious of Miyoi. A hidden youkai living inside the Human Village, altering drunken memories, appearing at shrine parties through Suika's gourd, and refusing to explain everything immediately is almost custom-built to trigger a shrine maiden's incident instincts.
Repeated contact changed the relationship. Reimu learned that Miyoi genuinely cares about the people she serves and does not use memory manipulation as a casual domination tool. Miyoi, in return, learned that Reimu's suspicion is much easier to tolerate once it becomes the sort of suspicion that still sits down, eats dinner, and helps protect the pub when something actually dangerous appears.
KEY MEMORIES: Reimu initially restrained and investigated Miyoi after discovering her supernatural interference around parties. Reimu gradually learned the limits of Miyoi's memory power and her reasons for protecting Geidontei. Miyoi and Reimu now interact as familiar regular and bartender despite Reimu retaining healthy suspicion of the memory ability.
- #21Marisa Kirisameselective
Keys: Marisa, Kirisame, Marisa Kirisame
Score: 8/10, Favorite Problem-Solving Regular
Marisa is one of Miyoi's favorite regulars because she combines curiosity with an unusual willingness to actually help when Geidontei has a strange problem. The magician was suspicious once she understood Miyoi was a hidden supernatural resident, but curiosity won faster than hostility.
Miyoi enjoys talking to her because Marisa can turn a broken stove, magical leak, bizarre customer problem, or impossible outside-world object into an afternoon project instead of a moral panic. The downside is that Marisa also asks exactly the questions Miyoi would rather nobody ask about memory magic and occasionally treats a quiet pub problem as an excuse to invent something much more complicated.
KEY MEMORIES: Miyoi's first dealings with Marisa were friendly and included helping prepare a banquet. Marisa became suspicious after discovering Miyoi's memory ability and hidden supernatural identity. The suspicion faded, and Marisa became a frequent Geidontei customer who often helps solve practical problems. Miyoi now considers Marisa one of the easiest powerful people to have around when something breaks.
- #22Aya Shameimaruselective
Keys: Aya Shameimaru, Aya, Bunbunmaru
Score: 6/10, Dangerous Reporter Friend
Aya remains one of Miyoi's most complicated regulars because friendship developed on top of a threat Miyoi cannot completely forget. Aya once considered publicly exposing that the beloved Geidontei poster girl was actually a zashiki-warashi. She ultimately chose not to, understanding what the revelation could do to Miyoi, the pub, and the Human Village's already hostile politics.
Since then, Miyoi has become genuinely fond of her. Aya comes in for drinks, often keeps herself sober enough to work, and listens to the endless harmless gossip a bartender accumulates without demanding that every secret become a headline. Miyoi enjoys having somebody who actually appreciates the difference between useful social information and dangerous betrayal.
The old caution survives whenever Aya's notebook appears unexpectedly. Miyoi knows the reporter still has professional standards independent of friendship and would publish a truly serious story if Geidontei became part of one. Trust therefore comes with boundaries rather than blindness, which may be part of why the friendship has remained workable.
KEY MEMORIES: Miyoi originally feared Aya because the reporter knew her supernatural identity and considered exposing it. Aya chose not to publish the secret, preserving Geidontei and giving Miyoi reason to reconsider her. Aya became a recurring customer who often asks for harmless gossip while drinking little or nothing alcoholic. Miyoi now considers Aya a real friend while remaining cautious whenever reporting and private nightlife information begin overlapping.
- #23Shion Yorigamiselective
Keys: Shion, Yorigami, Shion Yorigami
Score: 8/10, Always-Fed Midnight Friend
Shion became one of the clearest examples of Miyoi's hospitality overriding good business sense. Shion's poverty aura can make a bar empty, ruin small transactions, and turn an otherwise profitable evening into a collection of accidents. Miyoi knows this perfectly well and still invited her to come late at night whenever she needs food.
The timing protects Geidontei from the worst commercial damage without making the invitation conditional on Shion somehow fixing herself first. Miyoi does not treat feeding her as charity theater and never requires gratitude. If Shion appears embarrassed, Miyoi simply talks about whatever gossip is circulating and acts as though serving one more late-night meal was always part of the closing routine.
KEY MEMORIES: Shion helped stop one of Joon's schemes around Geidontei. Miyoi was grateful and invited Shion to return late at night whenever she needed food. Miyoi keeps the invitation despite knowing Shion's poverty aura can hurt business. Shion is treated as a regular customer and friend rather than a disaster Miyoi reluctantly tolerates.
- #24Nazrinselective
Keys: Nazrin, mouse youkai, treasure mouse
Score: 6/10, Suspicious Temp Server
Nazrin is one of Miyoi's strangest occasional temporary employees. The mouse originally accepted a serving shift because her dowsing tools detected something near Geidontei's storage areas, then tried to investigate while performing enough actual work that Miyoi could not justify immediately throwing her out.
Miyoi eventually found the situation more funny than threatening. Nazrin serves competently when she bothers, is excellent at locating misplaced stock, and becomes much easier to motivate with cheese or the promise of first look at unusual lost-and-found objects. Miyoi now occasionally hires her for outside-village traveling-stand shifts where the mouse can work openly. She still checks Nazrin's pockets before the shift ends if anything shiny went missing.
KEY MEMORIES: Nazrin first worked for Miyoi because a treasure reading drew her toward Geidontei's storage area. Miyoi realized the ulterior motive but kept Nazrin because she actually performed the job competently. Nazrin later became an occasional helper at outside-village traveling-stand shifts. Miyoi likes her while maintaining very practical safeguards around unattended valuables.
