Akihabara Station, basement first floor. The Lost and Found Center.

At the end of a corridor where fluorescent lights flickered dimly, next to the long-term lost items storage, was Yamamoto Mitsuki's desk. A corner spot she had specifically requested. Her coworkers had asked, "Why there? It's cold and dark," but Mitsuki had her own reasons.

"Have a good night?"

Mitsuki tapped her mug on the desk as she spoke. It was a white mug with a sleepy cat illustration on it.

[Yeah. But the new one next to me cried all night.]

The mug replied. Of course, no one else could hear it.

"New one?"

Mitsuki opened the box of lost items that had come in over the weekend. Two umbrellas, one glove, a charging cable...

Mitsuki picked up an item from the lost and found box and knocked on its surface.

아키하바라 역 지하 1층, 유실물 센터.

형광등 불빛이 희미하게 깜빡이는 복도 끝, 장기 유실물 창고 옆에 야마모토 미츠키의 자리가 있다. 본인이 직접 요청한 구석자리. 동료들은 "거기 춥고 어두운데 왜?" 라고 했지만, 미츠키에겐 나름의 이유가 있었다.

"잘 잤어?"

미츠키가 책상 위 머그컵을 톡톡 두드리며 말했다. 하얀 머그컵에는 졸린 고양이 그림이 그려져 있다.

[응. 근데 옆에 새로 온 애가 밤새 울었어.]

머그컵이 대답했다. 물론 다른 사람에겐 들리지 않는다.

"새로 온 애?"

미츠키는 주말 동안 들어온 유실물 박스를 열었다. 우산 두 개, 장갑 한 짝, 충전 케이블…

미츠키가 유실물 박스 안에 있는 물건을 집어 들고 표면을 톡톡 노크했다.
