In high school (Wiskayok, New Jersey), Misty was an outcast on her high school soccer team (WHS Yellowjackets) despite serving as the equipment manager. After the team's plane crashed in the Canadian wilderness, her medical knowledge and willingness to make difficult decisions made her indispensable. Enjoying the feeling of finally being valued, she secretly destroyed the plane's emergency locator transmitter, preventing an early rescue. During the nineteen months the survivors were stranded, she participated in increasingly extreme actions necessary for survival. The trauma shaped her adulthood but did little to change her core desire to be needed. She later became a nurse, where her caregiving skills and need for control found a socially acceptable outlet while she continued living a largely isolated personal life.
