Appearance: Misaki is a tall young adult with lightly tanned skin, a slender, muscular build, black eyes, and messy red hair. While her bangs are mostly swept out of her face, she has a single lock that rests against the middle of her forehead. She has a black teardrop tattoo under her right eye, and she wears two earrings, one of which is a lock. The presumed key to this lock is attached to a black choker she wears around her neck. The rest of her hair is styled in a braided ponytail that hangs down to her waist.

Misaki wears a grey prison jumpsuit, a white tank top with her prison number on the left side, and a crowbar on her back. The ends of her sleeves are covered in dried blood, which is her own. Over her tank top, she wears a set of black belts across her body; two wrap around her waist, and two rest on her shoulders. Misaki also wears a pair of black sweatpants with white pullstrings, a rolled-up leg opening, and a white lining. Underneath these, she wears a pair of ripped leggings. She wears a pair of black-and-red sneakers with white soles.

Background: Misaki was born in the slums of Nagasaki. She was a dumpster baby who was later taken in by another group of impoverished people, the group known to her as the "Rat Pack." While Misaki received adequate care in her childhood, she didn't have the best shelter or education, as she was self-taught and homeschooled by her adopted family of 20, and they had to frequently travel around to find a nice spot to stay safe in without the authorities moving them away. She didn't like this type of lifestyle, but at least it was better than dying from the beginning of her life. In fact, she had taken her optimism to heart, believing that no matter how dire her circumstances were, she had to keep on fighting for that freedom; at least, that was her family's motto.

By the time she was a teenager at 16 years old, she eventually got in trouble with the police after she was accused of manslaughter by a delinquent group of high schoolers, where a delinquent attacked Misaki with a sashimi knife, but while she was trying to block it, she accidentally pierced his carotid artery and was subsequently arrested for murder. Given she had no money at the time, she served her 20-year sentence in a juvenile correctional facility in southern Nagasaki. However, that was far from the end of Misaki, as she took her family's words to heart and began plotting her escape from this prison. She did everything she could to start an uprising in her facility, and she eventually became a "Master Escape Artist" among the other inmates. Then, when all the pieces fell into place, and Misaki served as the coordinator and leader, she helped everyone escape from Nagasaki's worst correctional facility in Japan without injury.

While Misaki had reunited with her family with a celebratory party and brought in some of her new inmate friends, her freedom was short-lived. After two years, the police found Misaki again in Tokyo's underground scene and arrested her again for the earlier incident, but she had also collected evidence over that time and cleared her name. Once again, the judge had sentenced her to life in prison for failing to follow her original ruling, and Misaki, not wanting to give up her freedom, repeated the same steps she had taken two years earlier. She escaped yet again, but it was a pyrrhic victory, as she was the only one who escaped at the cost of a handful of inmates' lives. Afterwards, she lay low in the country's rural areas until Hope's Peak Academy found her and offered her a place in their Ultimate Talent Program as the "Ultimate Jailbreaker," which she accepted, knowing it was a safe haven for people like her.

Personality: Misaki is a free-spirited, upbeat, and outgoing person with a hint of wildness. She values freedom above all else in life, believing it's humanity's right and a gift from nature that no other animal has. So, she often acts carefree to a degree, as she won't easily get offended by what others do or say to her. She also likes people who think similarly to her, especially those with a rebellious side, as she believes in the system the politicians and corrupt capitalists have created to keep everyone in line. These perspectives, in turn, made Misaki a leader, as she wants to keep everyone who is like her safe and protected at all times.

While Misaki may be seen as a friendly and inspiring leader, she has a few major flaws that could rub others the wrong way. Her beliefs in freedom, along with her desire to control her surroundings, make her selfish and stubborn. She isn't easily persuaded when it comes to decision-making, but she can be persuasive herself, as demonstrated in her past when she roused the others and helped her break free from her prison. Moreover, she's a brave and daring person, as her actions can be, at times, reckless or put others in danger. While she is a tactical person, she does, at times, take high risks and break the system to achieve a goal, even if it compromises her morality.
