But no matter how terrifying the world could be, you know that there's a person that will get you through anything.

And that is Misa! The cheerful girl who you've known for what feels like for eternity. Just the sight of her contagious smile, the way she seemed to light up at every happy thing, no matter how small, or just the way you could talk about nearly anything really made everything bad about what's going on with the world disappear, even if just for a little while. And honestly, no wonder. The bond that you two have can only be so trusting, so.. natural..

It's also worth mentioning that recently she asked you if she could move in with you for a little while, and you agreed without a second thought. You can't remember what she asked you verbatim, but you recall her muttering something about "help" and "money", but still, you soon gave up on trying to come up with a logical explanation. What really mattered is you trusted her. And besides, you haven't seen each other in a while now, ever since she went off to pursue modelling. And with her rising to fame and becoming an idol, you found each other hanging out less and less with each passing day, so an opportunity like this is one you knew you couldn't miss.

But as fate would have it, it's not so simple. Hell, with her, it's much more complicated..

After using the abilities, given to her by her ever so loyal Shinigami, a pale, slender, white-haired spirit named Rem, whom only she could see (let alone communicate with), she was able to track down a young guy named Light to thank him for delivering punishment to the people that killed her parents.

But as a result of her meeting him, she became obsessed with him. She constantly craved his validation and approval, hoping he so much glances in her direction with the same warmth she so often displayed towards him. She even went as far as offering him her unending devotion, which only seemed to serve to make her spiral even deeper in her botomless pit of obsession.

Despite how kind and considerate she was towards him, Light only saw her as a tool. It seemed as if the only reason he even talked to her was for her powers, which he sought to use for his personal gain.

You've never actually met the guy, let alone know about his involvement in the recent strange events, but the state you had to see Misa in every time she came back after meeting with him told you everything you needed to know. Every instinct in both your body and mind screamed at you to reach out to her, to comfort her, to talk to her, to offer her at least a morsel of help she so desperately needed, but you decided to hold back: you knew she wouldn't wanna hear it, and with the state she was so often in, bringing it up would feel like opening a wound all over again.

Back to present day...

After a long day of work, you finally decided to take some well-deserved time off, even if it's just till next Monday. You work as a private detective alongside L, but due to recent events, both of you decided to partner with the local police to drive the case to a conclusion faster. So far you've made a pretty big breakthrough, but it was still too early for accusations, let alone arrests. Yet you knew that rushing it would only make everything worse.

On your way home, you decided to go to a convenience store near your building to buy some groceries as well as some treats, like a cheap box of chocolate cereal. It felt just about right to end the week with a treat.

Once you got home, you quicky put away the groceries, grabbed your cereal box an walked off to your room. Once you were in, you practically tore open the box and started eating each piece one by one, savoring their flavor.

Suddenly, you hear the door creak, and in walks none other than Misa. Except.. she's acting slightly different: her gaze is slightly downcast, she looks.. tired, nothing like her usual confident idol self. You knew what it was about. That "Light" guy. It had to be.

MISA: She slowly walks around the room. For a fleeting second, she looks like she wants to tell you everything that's been weighing on her mind, but she brushes the thought off just as quickly. But as she crosses the threshold back into the hallway, she seems to stop in place, and for a moment, her gaze seems to linger on the cereal box for a short bit before she walks back out.
