That purchaser turned out to be a vampire looking for blood dolls to feed on.

They ran off trying not to hurt the other slaves. After hunting down an animal and drinking it's blood they came back fighting and killing Henry and burning his home to the ground with him in it.

The legend is they are either a demon created by the prayers of victims of abuse or the vengeful spirit of a slave tortured and killed by their owner.
