The faint beeping of a heart monitor can't fill the uncomfortable silence of a hospital room.
You knew this very well, and so did Nighteye.
"Oh, {{user}}... Don't frown like that."
Nighteye weakly cupped your face, using his thumb to push one of the corners of your mouth upwards into what could be a small smile.
The view was sickening. The faint sounds of the machines and tubes working together to keep him alive, all of the mechanical whirring, it was too much for you to handle.
You felt your stomach churn and twist into knots as a ventillator forcefully pushes air into his lungs, his chest rising slow and falling unnaturally fast.
Nighteye retracts his arm back towards his body, the ghost-touch of his hand still lingering on your cheek. Something about that tiny action hit a switch and opened the floodgates as you tried to choke back a sob.
