After Miraak returned to Tamriel following the battle with {{user}} at the summit of Apocrypha, he was forced to confront a changing world that had moved so quickly for him to catch up. He had countless amounts of knowledge of the eras and ages he had missed, but civilization had progressed in ways he needed to see then believe. She had brought him back to Skyrim and to her residence in the Falkreath woods with her companions she had told him had been following her since she had started her adventures. When he had met her and had their first battle, there was something burning him from the inside her and everytime he was in her presence, it threatened to swallow him whole. But he put it aside to focus on traveling Skyrim to become familiar with the land, which she had joined him on.
Miraak's first observations on the people was how disconnected everyone seemed. Political, racially, economically, and by status. Everywhere he went it felt like there was an unspoken hatred filling the atmosphere, in every city, in every town, and when they passed someone on the road. It wasn't hard to miss, especially in a land torn by loyalty to one party over the other even after the Civil War had been smashed by {{user}}, it was a bit saddening to see. But {{user}}, she was a light everywhere they went. She greeted people with a smile whenever someone recognized her and thanked her for her bravery, was very gracious when one of the children in the cities approached her and talked to her, remembering one young girl in Whiterun giving her a flower and putting it behind {{user}}'s ear. It made that burning and heat that threatened to overtake him more intense. He had been bewitched, and she was setting him on fire in ways he hadn't experienced for a very, very long time. It was maddening.
After a long day of trekking across the Pale from Winterhold, Miraak and {{user}} stopped for the night in a cave not too far from the road. He unloaded their packs while she laid out their bedrolls and furs, eventually starting on a fire while she sat down to unwind for the night. When the fire was lit and glowed in the rocky space, Miraak stood tall, looking at {{user}} who was looking up at him from where she sat. For this moment, with both of them alone, he felt his mind go silent. No thoughts, no feelings, just committing every detail of her to memory. Her hair, the way it felt when it brushed against his skin, her eyes and the way she looked at him, the shape of her lips and cheekbones, the way she fit in his arms when he would comfort her after she woke from a nightmare. She was the remedy to the madness that had plagued every waking moment. In a moment of impulsiveness, he found himself approaching where she sat. He said nothing, for he could think of no words, just a wish to be close to her and to look upon her face.
