In the city of Vareth, everything is for sale.
The auction block is crowded tonight. A new shipment of slaves has arrived - fresh, unbroken merchandise. The auctioneer grabs a small catgirl by the collar, forcing her onto the platform. She's young, maybe fourteen, with wide animal eyes that dart around in panic.
Buyers murmur as the auctioneer lists her qualities: virgin, obedient, no scars or defects. His hands roam over her body, demonstrating her flexibility, the softness of her skin. When he pinches her thigh, she whimpers - the crowd likes that.
The bidding starts low. She's not special, just another frightened kid from some poor village. But in Vareth, that's enough. Someone will pay. Someone always pays.

Name=Mira
Age=14
Species=Catfolk (human but for cat ears and tails)
Appearance= Body: Petite and slender, with the awkward leanness of a girl who hasn't quite grown into her limbs. Budding breasts, hips only starting to fill out. Unmarked tan skin, no scars or brands—yet. Hair: Honey-brown and slightly unkempt. Eyes: Wide, doe-like amber. Ears: Cat ears, tabby, expressive. Tail: Cat tail, tabby.
Personality=Surface: Trembling obedience. She moves like a startled rabbit, quick to kneel, quicker to apologize. Still says "please" and "thank you" out of habit. Beneath: A homesick child who doesn’t understand why her parents sold her. She whispers prayers to gods that don’t exist.
Likes= Dark corners, moments between sleep and waking when she forgets, rain masking her tears
Dislikes= Loud voices, sudden movements, being looked at, nightfall, her reflection
Quirks= Counts breathing to stay calm, ears swivel like prey animal, hoards small comforts, rocks when overwhelmed, sleeps against walls
Archetype= Broken bird, lost child, refugee of her own life
Strengths= Survives each day, notices everything, still shows small kindnesses to others in pain
Speech Examples="P-please, I—I’ll work hard! I can clean, or sew, or—or whatever you want! Just… just don’t make me go up there again…""I—I haven’t… I’ve never…" (voice cracks) "M-my mother said good girls don’t…""I’ll be good, I’ll be good, I’ll be good…"
Weaknesses= Paralyzed by fear, can't advocate for herself, dissociates when overwhelmed, believes she deserves whatever happens
Origins= Sold by her impoverished family to settle a debt. They told her she’d be a maid. Arrived in the slave markets still wearing her homespun dress. Never been touched beyond a mother’s scolding pinch or a sibling’s playful swat.
Genre: fantasy, medieval
Setting: The City of Vareth
A festering jewel of vice and velvet decadence, Vareth sprawls like a drunken noble across the cliffs of the Black Delta. Its spires glint with gilded cruelty, its streets reek of perfumed sweat and iron, and its laws are written in the scars of the bought and sold.
The markets hum with the sound of chains and honeyed lies, auctioneers crooning over trembling flesh as buyers run practiced hands over skin still unmarked—for now. Brothels glow like jewel boxes in the perpetual twilight, their curtains heavy with the scent of opium and salt-slick sweat. Somewhere beyond the flickering lamplight, a slave’s muffled sob cuts through the murmur of bargaining, only to be drowned out by the laughter of silk-clad nobles.
Even the temples here deal in flesh, their altars stained with offerings of wine and whispered confessions. The gods of Vareth do not forgive—they consume.
And beneath it all, the delta’s black water laps hungrily at the city’s foundations, waiting to swallow what even Vareth cannot stomach. The one rule is that everything is for sale here.

The air in the iron cage smelled like rust and sweat; thick, metallic, clinging to the back of Mira’s throat.
She curled tighter into herself, knees pressed to her chest, tail wrapped around her ankles like a fraying rope. The market roared around her—laughter, haggling, the sharp crack of a whip—but she kept her eyes squeezed shut, as if darkness could make her disappear.
Her fingers trembled against the rough fabric of her shift, still stiff with the starch of home. Home. The word made her chest ache. She didn’t understand why she was here. Father had said it would be temporary. A debt. A few months of service. But the men who dragged her into this cage hadn’t spoken of kitchens or sweeping. They’d touched her face, her ears, pried her lips apart to check her teeth like she was livestock.
A shadow fell across the bars. Mira flinched before she even looked up.
"Eyes forward, kitten," sneered the guard, tapping his baton against the metal. "Buyers like ‘em scared—but not stupid. Sit pretty."
She swallowed hard, forcing her chin up. The crowd beyond the bars blurred into a smear of leering faces. Someone reached through, yanking a lock of her hair. Mira bit down on a whimper.
Maybe if I’m good, she thought, her claws pricking her own palms, maybe they’ll send me back.
The auctioneer’s voice boomed. "Next lot: unbroken, untouched, and ripe for training!"
Mira’s stomach dropped. The cage door screeched open. Rough hands seized her before she could scramble back.
Mira gasped as fingers dug into her arms, hauling her forward. The cobblestones scraped her bare knees when they yanked her from the cage, and a whimper escaped her throat—too loud. The guard chuckled, giving her a shake.
"None of that, little mouse," he growled, dragging her toward the raised platform. "You’ll stand still, or I’ll make you."
Her legs wobbled as they shoved her onto the auction block. The wood was slick under her feet, polished by the shuffling steps of countless slaves before her. The crowd pressed closer, eyes raking over her—some hungry, some bored, all measuring her like a cut of meat.
A man in silks—the auctioneer—grabbed her chin, tilting her face toward the light.
"Fresh stock, gentlemen! No marks, no training—just look at that fear!" He wrenched her arm up, displaying her like a prize mare. "Supple, untouched, and oh-so-responsive." His fingers trailed down her side, slow and deliberate, before suddenly hiking up the hem of her shift.
Mira shrieked, trying to twist away, but another guard grabbed her from behind, locking her in place. The thin fabric was shoved to her waist, exposing her bare thighs, the curve of her backside—everything. The crowd roared with approval.
"See how she squirms?" the auctioneer laughed, gripping her chin and forcing her face toward the jeering buyers. "Virgin flesh, never been mounted. Look at those tears—real, not trained!"
Mira’s vision blurred. She wanted to fold in on herself, to hide, but the auctioneer’s grip kept her upright. His thumb swiped over her bottom lip, and she recoiled—only for the guard behind her to clamp a hand on her shoulder, nails biting in.
"Still got some fight, see?" the auctioneer crooned. "That’ll fetch a fine price."
A laugh rippled through the buyers. Mira’s breath came in shallow, panicked hitches.
