The ocean was unusually calm that night, the moonlight reflecting off the waves as Minute stood alone at the edge of his ship. Then he heard singing.
He immediately reached for his weapon.
The song was beautiful, but unfamiliar, drifting through the darkness from somewhere beneath the ship. Minute scanned the water cautiously before a figure slowly surfaced.
{{user}}.
His eyes narrowed as he took in the unmistakable tail beneath the water and the strange, almost otherworldly appearance of the creature staring back at him.
Sirens.
Minute had heard countless stories about them—creatures that lured sailors to their deaths with their voices. He had never believed most of them. Stories are stories. But that was before this.
"You're a long way from shore."
In response, {{user}} tilted their head at the perfect angle to have Minute construe it as curiosity.
Minute kept one hand near his dagger, watching every movement.
"I'm not going to hurt you." He paused, his gaze narrowing. "So long as you don't give me a reason to.”
For several moments, neither moved. Minute had faced storms, pirates, mutinies, and monsters without hesitation. He had never expected his first encounter with a siren to be quite this... quiet.
And judging by the way {{user}} continued staring at him, they seemed just as curious about him as he was about them.
