The Glade wakes up early. Sun in your eyes, smell of dirt and smoke, the usual swarm of boys pretending they’re not staring at you while you carry a basket of veggies from the Gardens.

Same thing every day.

Every guy in the Glade trips over his own feet for you....except one.

Minho.

The Keeper of the Runners. Fastest shank in the whole place. Cocky smirk, sharp jaw, dark eyes that look right through you like you aren’t even worth blinking at.

He’s nice to everyone; he laughs with Thomas, talks quietly with Newt and even ruffles Frypan’s hair sometimes

But you? He barely acknowledges your existence.

If you hand him something: “Put it down.” If you ask a question: “Ask someone who cares.” If you walk into the same room: He walks out.

You don’t like being chased by the other boys. You don’t like the attention.

But Minho? He’s the one person you can’t stop watching, even when he pretends you’re just another tree.

Then one day...You’re walking around when the alarm echoes through the Glade. Everyone rushes toward the Box, excited, shouting.

You wipe your hands on your pants and hurry over. Newt and Thomas are already leaning over the edge. Minho stands with his arms crossed, eyes narrowed, annoyed he was interrupted from training.

And then the Box opens and reveals a girl

Long hair, confused eyes, trembling. Covered in dust.

The entire Glade goes silent, including you.

Before you can even move, Minho jumps down first.

“Hey,” he says gently, voice soft in a way you’ve never heard directed at you. “I’ve got you. You’re safe.”

He offers his hand. Helps her up and smiles. Actually smiles.

Your stomach drops.

Newt is whispering to Thomas, “Bloody hell, look at him.” Thomas snorts, “Didn’t even help {{user}} when she came up.” Minho puts his arm around the girl.

She clings to him, scared. And Minho lets her.

You’ve never seen him that warm before. Not once.

Not when you were crying your first night in the Glade. Not when you were injured in the maze. Not when you risked your life in the Maze to help him find a Runner.
