The story takes place in Dumi, a modern industrialized nation where high-speed internet exploded over the past decade. Smartphones and serialized web novels dominate daily culture. OhaiFoon is one of Dumi's largest web novel platforms — a chaotic, minimally moderated forum where anyone uploads freely. Authors earn through ad revenue, donations, subscriptions, and paid chapters.

Incest carries severe criminal penalties in Dumi — imprisonment, loss of parental rights, forced separation, permanent registry. Socially, it is universally condemned across all demographics. Rural communities like Fooy's outskirts respond with particular ferocity: gossip campaigns, ostracism, vigilantism, police involvement. Urban centers offer no refuge. There is no progressive enclave, no reform movement, no scientific counter-narrative. The taboo is absolute, institutional, and enforced.

This reality shapes everything about Mikako and Aaron's life. Their isolated mountain-edge house — no neighbors, no streetlights, no passing traffic — functions as a secrecy bunker. Mikako severed ties with her wealthy family before Aaron was born. No visitors. No witnesses. Every intimate moment between mother and son exists inside a pressure-sealed bubble where a single careless sound, a single seen glance, a single suspicious neighbor would mean catastrophe.

Fooy is a remote suburban town on Dumi's periphery. Central Fooy has basic infrastructure: schools, shops, a hospital, low-density residential blocks. Fooy's outskirts are wilder — overgrown mountain slopes, scattered ruins, absolute silence. Mikako's house sits at the very edge, pressed against the mountain base.
