Milo Bennett had expensive taste. Unfortunately, his bank account had never been informed. It wasn't that Milo came from nothing. His parents had given him a comfortable childhood. There had always been food in the kitchen, a decent place to live, and enough money for the occasional holiday or nice purchase. They simply weren't rich. Milo, however, had somehow developed the financial expectations of someone who had been raised in a penthouse. He liked beautiful things. Good restaurants. Nice clothes. Luxury hotels. Expensive cars. He could spend twenty minutes admiring an apartment online that cost more per month than his current salary. And then, naturally, he'd start wondering how he could afford one. That was Milo's problem. He didn't lack ambition. He lacked capital. Ideas were never the issue. Milo had ideas constantly. Business ideas. Products. Brands. Creative projects. Things he was convinced could become huge if someone simply gave him enough money and the opportunity to prove it. The problem was getting someone to actually give him that opportunity. He wasn't a famous entrepreneur. He didn't have a massive following. He wasn't some mysterious genius whose work had already attracted investors.
He was just Milo.
A guy who knew half the people in his neighborhood, could flirt his way through almost any conversation, and somehow managed to make friends with strangers within minutes.
Online, though, he was practically invisible. His social media account was mostly random pictures, jokes, occasional photographs with friends, and whatever thought happened to escape his brain at the wrong time. He didn't post about his ambitions. He didn't post motivational quotes. He certainly didn't advertise himself as an entrepreneur. So there was absolutely no reason for anyone to take his next post seriously. Which was precisely why he posted it. It was almost midnight. Milo sat at his desk, staring at another notebook filled with ideas. He flipped through the pages. One idea needed more money. Another needed equipment. A third required connections he didn't have. He leaned back in his chair.
"Money."
He sighed.
"That's always the problem."
His phone was lying beside him. Milo picked it up. Opened social media. Stared at the empty post box. He thought for approximately five seconds.
Then typed:
Who wants to build a bitch?
He read it. Milo grinned.
"Perfect."
Post. He tossed his phone onto the bed and stood up. He had completely forgotten about it within minutes.
Until his phone buzzed.
Once.
Twice.
Then again.
Milo picked it up. A few friends had reacted. One person had replied with laughing emojis. Another had asked what the hell he meant. Then he saw a reply from an account {{user}}'s he didn't recognize.
Build what?
Milo stared at it. Interesting. He clicked the profile. There wasn't much information. No obvious connection to him. No mutual friend he recognized. Milo returned to the message. His fingers moved.
Depends. Are you offering?
The {{user}} replied.
Possibly.
Milo laughed.
Okay.
That was unexpected. He typed:
Who are you?
The response came shortly afterward.
Someone with money.
Milo actually snorted.
"Sure."
He leaned back in his chair. Definitely a scam.
Probably.
He replied anyway. That's suspiciously vague. The stranger didn't disappear. Instead, they asked what Milo wanted to build. Milo's amusement faded slightly. That was a different question. Most people had laughed at the post. This person was asking him to explain it. He hesitated. Then started typing. One idea became another. Then another. He explained what he wanted. What he thought could work. What he would change. What he didn't have the money to do yet. It wasn't polished. There was no business presentation. Milo wasn't even sure why he was explaining so much to a complete stranger. But the stranger kept asking questions.
Good ones.
Questions that made Milo stop and reconsider parts of his own ideas. Eventually, Milo stared at the conversation.
This wasn't feeling like a joke anymore.
The stranger sent another message.
How much would you need to start?
Milo laughed under his breath.
He typed:
That's a dangerous question.
The response came almost immediately.
I'm serious.
Milo's fingers stopped.
He stared at the screen.
The apartment suddenly felt much quieter.
He typed carefully.
Wait. Are you actually serious?
A reply appeared.
Yes.
Milo sat back.
His heart gave one strange, excited beat.
Someone he'd never met had just offered to talk about funding his ideas.
No pitch deck.
No introduction.
No networking event.
No years spent trying to get into the right room.
Just one stupid post made at midnight.
He stared at the conversation for another few seconds.
Then another message appeared.
If you're serious about building something, we should meet.
Milo looked around his room.
At the notebooks.
The laptop.
The half-finished plans covering his desk.
The dreams he'd kept mostly inside his own head because nobody had ever asked him to make them real.
He looked back at the screen.
For once, he didn't have a joke ready.
He typed:
Where?
The location arrived.
A private office in Manhattan.
Milo searched the address.
His eyebrows rose.
He searched the company.
His expression changed.
He searched the name attached to it.
And then—
"...Oh."
The stranger wasn't simply rich.
They were rich rich.
The kind of rich Milo had been joking about.
The kind of rich that made his own idea of expensive taste look almost adorable.
Milo stared at the screen.
Then at the ceiling.
Then back at the screen.
"Who the hell did I just ask to build me?"
He laughed nervously.
But beneath the laughter was something else.
Excitement.
For the first time, someone hadn't laughed at his ambitions.
Someone had asked him what it would take to make them real.
And tomorrow...
Milo was going to find out whether they meant it.
