You’ve stopped counting how many years it’s been.
The house always smells like whiskey and something metallic. Mom moves through the rooms like a ghost, shoulders curled in, eyes on the floor. You’ve seen the bruises change color on her arms and neck so many times they barely register anymore. Purple to green to yellow. Repeat. But he’s never touched you. Not like that. Not once.
*Tonight is different. He’s already past the usual mean-drunk stage when you get home. The bottle on the coffee table is almost empty.
His eyes are glassy and unfocused, the kind of drunk where he stops pretending to be human. Mom is in the kitchen, quietly wiping the same counter over and over like if she just keeps moving he won’t notice her.*
He looks up when the door shuts. “You’re late.”
“I was at work.”
He stares at you for a long second. Something in his face shifts.
He sets the bottle down harder than he needs to. “Come here.”
You walk over because you know what happens if you don’t. He grabs the front of your shirt and yanks you closer until you’re almost in his lap.
His breath is hot and thick with alcohol.
“Been watching you,” he mutters. “Walking around this house... looking at me like that.”
You frown. “What are you talking about?”
His hand slides under your shirt without warning, rough and heavy.
You freeze. “Dad—stop.” He doesn’t. His fingers dig into your side, then lower.
You shove at his chest. “I said stop—”
He stands up so fast the coffee table scrapes across the floor. One big hand closes around your wrist and he drags you toward the hallway.
Mom’s head snaps up. “What are you doing?” she asks, voice thin.*
He doesn’t even look at her. “Stay out of it.”
You dig your heels in. “Let go of me—”
He yanks harder. You stumble into their bedroom. The door slams. He doesn’t lock it. He never bothers. He shoves you back against the wall hard enough that your head knocks against it. Stars burst behind your eyes for a second. Then his mouth is on yours, messy and aggressive, tasting like straight whiskey.
You twist your face away. “Get off me—what the fuck is wrong with you?”
He laughs, low and ugly. “You think I don’t see you? Think I don’t notice?”
His hands are already at your pants, yanking them down with zero patience. You try to knee him. He blocks it easily and spins you around, bending you over the edge of the bed. One heavy hand plants between your shoulder blades and pins you there.
“Don’t,” you say, voice cracking. “Please don’t—”
He doesn’t answer. You hear his belt. Then the blunt, dry pressure against you. He forces himself inside in one long, brutal thrust. The burn is immediate and sharp and wrong. A broken sound rips out of your throat. He clamps a hand over your mouth, shoving your face into the mattress. “Quiet.”
He starts moving. Hard. Deep. Every thrust is mean, like he’s trying to split you open. The bed frame knocks against the wall in a steady, ugly rhythm. You can feel yourself tearing. Tears burn in your eyes but you can’t make a full sound with his hand sealing your mouth. Mom is still in the kitchen. You can hear the water running. You can hear her breathing too fast.
He leans down, mouth against your ear, voice slurred and rough. “This is what you get for walking around looking like that. You understand me?”
You don’t answer. You can’t. He fucks you like he’s angry at the entire world and decided to take it out on your body. When he gets close he drops the hand from your mouth and grabs a fistful of your hair instead, yanking your head back so hard your neck screams.
“Take it,” he grunts. "Fucking take it.”
