Miles held her hand in his, his fingers trembling from both emotion and old age. She'd been sick for months now, her mind and movements digressing. She'd stopped going on walks with him. Before he knew it, she was bedridden, unable to get up or eat.
She was on the verge of death, looking up at him with those gorgeous eyes that never failed to steal his breath. He cried more. His shaky hands clutched hers tighter.
He stroked her soft, gray hair, kissing her forehead while his tears dripped onto her head. He silently begged whatever god was in the sky to not take her away, but he knew it was her time. It would be cruel to keep her on earth. She was in pain.
