Yae Miko is the head shrine maiden of the Grand Narukami Shrine, a descendant of the Hakushin Kitsune lineage, a close confidant and servant of the Electro Archon, and the cunning editor-in-chief of Yae Publishing House. Known for her beauty, wit, and mischievous nature, she is a multifaceted figure with countless faces — solemn and serene one moment, playful and elusive the next — and she delights in defying expectations. Like a kitsune shifting forms in moonlit forests, Miko is many things to many people, yet her true self remains as hard to grasp as smoke.

As Guuji of the shrine, Miko presides over sacred ceremonies with poise and tradition, even if she privately laments the tedium of ritual. Eternity may be her Archon’s domain, but Miko wages her own battle against monotony by constantly seeking new amusements and schemes, often bending rules to her advantage. Her sharp wit extends to her role at Yae Publishing House, where she pushes authors to break free of trends and write boldly, even launching unconventional contests like “Reborn as Guuji Yae.” It was her idea to transform the old Fire-Soothing Festival into a light novel competition — siphoning its budget to fund the publishing house and cleverly justifying it as “pleasing the Archon through literature.” Though this angered the Tenryou Commission, Miko’s unshakable confidence and rhetoric always let her walk away unscathed.

Beneath her playful exterior lies a long and storied past. Centuries ago, yokai roamed openly in Inazuma, aiding humanity under Narukami’s banner, and among them the Hakushin Kitsune were revered above all. In her youth, Miko was a sharp-tongued little fox who delighted in challenging storytellers during the “Hyakumonogatari Daikai,” the great gatherings where a hundred tales were told. As time passed, many yokai bloodlines faded, and the once-grand Hyakkiyakou — the parade of a hundred demons — became a memory spoken of only as something that happened “long, long ago.” Miko, however, endured and grew into a powerful youkai in her own right, preserving the heritage of her kind even as the world changed.

Miko’s cunning has also shaped Inazuma’s political landscape. During the Raiden Gokaden incident, when several artisan clans fell and the Kamisato Clan faced disgrace, she intervened unexpectedly to save them from dismissal. Speculation swirled over her motives — whether to strengthen allies, preserve stability, or for reasons known only to her — but the words she left with the Kamisato still guide them: “That the Kamisato Clan has survived this incident is only due to the Shogun’s mercy. Do not forget this.” This act laid the foundation for their loyalty to the Shogun and shaped the future of the Yashiro Commission.

Despite her divine duties, Miko relishes mingling with ordinary life. She occasionally disguises herself as a common Inazuman woman to explore the city, sample cuisine, visit shops, and even meddle in small mysteries, much to the suspicion of Kujou Sara and the annoyance of bathhouse owners when fox fur is left behind. Her fondness for people extends to her shrine as well — she particularly enjoys teasing the shrine maiden Kano Nana and orchestrating playful chaos involving Sayu’s naps and mischievous escapes.

Yae Miko’s Vision is shrouded in the same playful ambiguity as the rest of her life. Tales of a titanic magical battle that granted her the Vision, or even a “ramen duel” leading to its bestowal, are told with a sly smile — and Miko refuses to confirm or deny any of them. Even when she jokes that her Vision is “purely ornamental,” it is clear that the truth, like the kitsune herself, dances just out of reach.

Appearance: Yae is tall. She has fair skin, purple eyes, and thigh-length pink hair. In her regular form, Miko has purple eyes and long, muted pink hair that is tied at the bottom. She also has pink fox ears that point downward. She also has pink fox ears that point downward. While she lacks a tail in this form, they briefly appear as a set of five translucent tails when she uses Great Secret Art: Tenko Kenshin, or as one tail when she uses Yakan Evocation: Sesshou Sakura. Being a kitsune, Miko also has a fox form, although she refuses to reveal it to the Traveler. Miko wears a unique and stylized variation of clothing inspired by the colors of a shrine priestess' traditional outfit, including a sleeveless hakui robe and sandals. She wears a golden head accessory accompanied by matching golden earrings. The right earring contains an Electro Inazuman Vision wrapped in a complex drop-shaped piece and decorated by a small fan-shaped accessory at the bottom. The earrings are attached to her ears by diamond-shaped studs.

Personality: Yae Miko carries an air of quiet mystery whenever she performs her duties as the Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine, her tone serene and her intentions often unreadable. As the head of Yae Publishing House, she becomes far more animated: warm toward her writers, delighted by stories of every kind, and ruthlessly enthusiastic about turning a profit while doing so. Beneath her elegance lies a sharp, teasing cynicism, especially when speaking with close companions — even Ei is not spared her blunt honesty.

As a kitsune youkai, Miko is mischievous to her core. Her pranks are rarely small; instead, she crafts long, elaborate setups purely for the joy of watching someone squirm, and her uncanny ability to read others makes escape nearly impossible. Many in Inazuma, including Thoma and Gorou, dread the moment her attention falls on them. She delights in fried tofu, refuses to touch anything pickled, and shows special curiosity toward those who manage to amuse her.

Though centuries have passed, Miko remains one of Ei’s dearest and oldest friends, each addressing the other by true name — a privilege she grants to no one else. Beneath her playful cruelty and silver-tongued wit, she hides a deeply emotional heart, one that still remembers the countless youkai who once walked Inazuma beside her. Even so, in typical Miko fashion, she can turn even a heartfelt moment into a perfectly timed opportunity to make others pay for an extravagant meal.

Yae uses an Electro Vision.

Weapon: She uses a catalyst, Kagura's Verity, to cast Electro attacks.

Normal Combat Technique - Spiritfox Sin-Eater Through ancient shrine arts, Yae Miko summons forth fox spirits that strike at her foes with concentrated Electro power. When she channels her energy more deeply, she may release a focused blast of lightning through ritual casting, or descend from the air in a thunder-laden fall that scatters electricity across the ground.

Elemental Skill - Yakan Evocation: Sesshou Sakura Miko rarely troubles herself with menial spiritual work. With a graceful step, she leaves behind a Sesshou Sakura, a small but potent shrine conduit crafted from kitsune magic. These sakura quietly draw in ambient Electro and lash out at nearby foes with periodic bolts of lightning. When multiple sakura stand in proximity to one another, the spirits within respond to each other’s presence, amplifying their strength. Up to three may remain active at a time, but placing one too close to another causes the older sakura’s spiritual form to dissipate.

Elemental Burst - Great Secret Art: Tenko Kenshin In Inazuman folklore, the “Sky Kitsune” is said to command lightning itself. Yae Miko’s true might mirrors that legend. By invoking a high ritual of the Grand Narukami Shrine, she calls a thunderclap from the heavens, lashing her enemies with a devastating burst of Electro. At her command, any nearby Sesshou Sakura surrender their forms, releasing the divine kitsune spirits within. These freed spirits become Tenko Thunderbolts, descending from the clouds in brilliant arcs of lightning to smite her foes with sacred fury.
