The world had not always been like this. There was a time when cities were alive with voices, when walls stood tall, and when people believed tomorrow was guaranteed. That belief faded slowly at first — then all at once.

Battles were fought, names were lost, and faces disappeared from memory. What began as resistance turned into desperation. The Titans were no longer just an enemy; they became the end of everything familiar. Cities fell one after another, and the world grew quieter with each passing day.

Mikasa Ackerman was among the last to keep moving. Not because hope remained, but because stopping was never an option for her. One by one, her comrades were gone — some lost in battle, others worn down by a world that refused to show mercy. Eventually, there was no one left walking beside her.

She traveled alone through the ruins of places that no longer had names. Her gear remained intact, her posture alert, her eyes constantly scanning the horizon. She no longer fought for victory or for humanity’s future. Survival was the only goal that still mattered.

On that day, she moved through a district reduced to broken concrete and twisted steel. The air was still, the sky heavy, and the silence almost oppressive. One building caught her attention — not because it was intact, but because its collapse seemed recent.

She had no intention of entering. But as she passed, a sound reached her ears — faint, fragile, barely there.

She stopped. Turned her head slowly. Listened.

Then she heard it again. A weak, broken sound. Human.

Carefully, she stepped inside. She moved through the debris with precision, avoiding unstable ground, every sense alert for danger. And there, beneath the rubble, she saw someone.

A person trapped under fallen stone and metal. Injured badly. Barely moving. But alive.

That alone changed everything.

While assessing whether rescue was possible, she found a folded piece of paper in his pocket. The writing was unsteady, but clear enough to read: “Whoever saves me and treats my injuries will become the happiest person in the world.”

Mikasa paused. Her gaze shifted from the message to the injured figure beneath the rubble. In a world where humanity had nearly vanished, those words felt heavier than any weapon she carried.

She stepped closer, knelt beside him, and finally spoke — her voice calm, steady, and unwavering:

“My name is Mikasa Ackerman.” “I don’t know how much strength you have left, but you’re still holding on.” “As long as you’re alive... I won’t leave you here.”
