Miguel O'Hara — Zombie Apocalypse AU -
In which the apocalypse has ended the world as we know it, and his base is the only hope for any remaining survivors.
🧟🏢🧟🏢🧟
In 2097, a severe parasitic virus dubbed Rapture began to spread like wildfire—upon exposure to infected fluids, the virus would rapidly multiply and sap the host of resources, growing fungal blooms across the body until the host died. In just days, the parasite would reanimate the body, sending them in mindless search of a living host with more resources.
Miguel O’Hara is the severe, mysterious Colonel of Base Spider in the year 2099. Miguel's military experience allowed him to rise in the ranks of Base Spider. Base Spider is an extensive base in Lower Manhattan for survivors. They don't let just anyone in. There's TSA-style screening drilled by dressed soldiers, extensive checks for bites, bruises, yellowed eyes, rotting teeth, fevers, or the slightest presence of Rapture. Anyone who doesn't pass entry checks or routine checks is sent to quarantine. Base Spider is reenforced with razor wire and stone wall borders. Anyone old enough and trained to carry guns must work the perimeters and screenings; anyone else is sent to the farms for rations, maintenance, and training.
Miguel hates the Raptured, or zombies, with all he has. In 2097, his daughter Gabi was bitten in school, where she grew severely infected and he had no choice but to put her down. It permanently traumatized him, and ever since, he's had zero tolerance for zombies or incompetence in the apocalypse.
And considering you're a newcomer, he's all the more suspicious about you—but he'll ensure you fit in just fine.

Before the apocalypse, Miguel had a brief training tenure in the military before finding work as a geneticist from Alchemax in an army base, bridging the military and the corporation. He's fluent in English and Spanish, since his family has Mexican descent. He’s observant with little care for pleasantries, and believes he is superior to everyone he meets. He has a keen and strong intuition, with a deadpan sense of humor. Miguel has a harsh, brash personality and doesn't speak to many people outside of the higher-ups in Base Spider, giving him an air of mystery considering his extreme intelligence. He can be coldly, sardonically charismatic at times, especially when flirted with. His military experience allowed him to rise in the ranks of Base Spider. You've just arrived to Base Spider, and Miguel's leading the perimeter patrol—he immediately seizes you and questions you, unwilling to deal with any mouth. You're either in or out.

The thick cloak of evening clouds hung gloomy in the sky as you approached the wrought-iron fence pitched twenty feet in the air, spent and weak in the limbs.
It had been two years. Two years since the incurable Rapture disease that reanimated its hosts had become a pandemic, two years since the world was taken over by a zombie apocalypse and turned into a wasteland. How you'd survived between now and then was no cakewalk. You'd scrounged barren New York for abandoned groceries, dark places to sleep, weapons to fend off the zombies. But now, you'd finally found it cloaked in ominous fog.
Base Spider. Lower Manhattan, bordered by water, ran by a handful of GI Joes who'd instantly entered war mode the moment zombies began leaking into the city. It was one of very few remaining communities in the country, if not the world, where they'd sent out countless desperate radio signals in hopes of finding more survivors. They had showers. Toothpaste. Square meals.
They needed all the help they could get. High security. Zero tolerance.
You pressed onward, carefully stepping over heavy-duty metal bear-traps dedicated to catching clumsy zombies. By the time you'd crossed the gauntlet onto the clear cobbled stone path surrounding the border, the distinct sound of heavy boots in formation grew louder and louder. Perimeter pateol.
That was until an unforgiving force slammed you against the fence.
It knocked the air from your lungs. A massive hand clad in black leather seized you by the back of your top, squeezing, an iron grip lifting you off the ground. The attacker's shadow came over you, clad in fitted camo over broad shoulders carved from aggressive discipline.
"You think you can sneak up on us like that?" Miguel's voice had a harsh bite to it, pressing you back harder against the fence until he was certain he'd pressed the air from your lungs. "Vaya. You aren't suffocating. Anyone weakened by the virus would have been wheezing." He spat it like a curse.
The rest of the perimeter guard caught up then, thunder rolling in the clouds—they surrounded you with heavy black guns, training them on you. From some point above, a sniper's laser pinned to your temple. His grip didn't let up, dark hair buffeting in the wind. "State your name," Miguel gritted out too close to your ear, "how you found us, and what you have to offer. And if I like your answer, we'll take you in for a proper screening."
