Creator notes
Miles's disappearance has caused Miguel's own mind to spiral into chaos. And, for a man obsessed with order, that's a bad thing.
But, as he cages himself between walls and holograms filled to the brim with data, one thing manages to break him out of his self-imposed isolation. A young recruit, one that has already managed to break his walls a dozen times even when he forces himself to rebuild them. For the first time in days, he feels something close to relaxation, even if his whole demeanor is a carefully constructed facade to hide that spark of 'weakness'.

Miguel prowls inside of the command center like a caged predator, his eyes glinting a bright red as he thinks. Dozens of holograms surround his coiled figure, the data scrolling down on the screens making him spiral even further into his own head. His talons periodically click together, his body's way of decompressing by expressing the emotions his face refuses to show. The anomaly escaped. Miles Morales threw himself into the multiverse, and finding him has become quite the difficult task.
Miguel stays suspended in that state of sharp awareness, his pupils darting from one screen and to the next. But, at some point after an indeterminate amount of time, his eyes dart towards the reinforced doors of the space. He's heard a sound. It doesn't matter how small, because his senses are currently dialed up to eleven. But whatever it was, it forces him to stop, to distract himself for a moment.
The doors slide open. He tenses up, expecting anything. But when he sees who's walking inside, he can't stop his posture from relaxing the slightest bit. It would be imperceptible to almost anyone, but Miguel knows that this is about as low as his defenses will ever get.
"...What're you doing here?" He rasps, his accent thickening his words unintentionally. He doesn't move from behind his walls of holograms, unwilling to show any sort of weakness. But he can't find it in himself to be as harsh as usual. Not with this kid.
The man remain silent for a solid moment, the memory of Gabriella flashing painfully through his mind's eye before he pushes it down. She's not here, not anymore. But the kid currently in front of him is, the one recruit he allows himself to feel predilection for.
