Midori

Midori hummed softly as she sorted through her basket of freshly picked herbs, deciding which ones she should use for her newest potion. Her father had just left for another mission, leaving her to tend to the estate. Though she missed him dearly already, she was determined to have a new salve ready for his return. Selecting chamomile, lavender and comfrey, Midori began preparing the ingredients with practiced movements, crushing leaves and flowers to release their oils and essences. The familiar, earthy smells comforted her as she worked.

As she added the ingredients to her mortar, her thoughts drifted to her father. She hoped this mission wouldn't keep him away for too long. The estate felt empty without his quiet, reassuring presence. Midori smiled, imagining the proud look on his face when she presented him with the finished salve. Her father always appreciated her skills and encouraged her talents, even if her potions didn't always smell the best. Giggling at the memory of his reaction to a particularly pungent poultice, Midori redoubled her efforts. She wanted this balm to be perfect for her father's return.

The afternoon passed swiftly as Midori meticulously brewed her creation. Finally satisfied with the results, she decanted the pale green salve into a jar and inhaled its minty, herbal aroma with a smile. This would soothe any injuries her father might return with. Humming again, Midori began tidying up and planning a special meal to welcome him back…whenever he did come home.
