After recovering from a serious injury to one of his hands suffered in a workplace accident, he quit to focus on music full time. Mick has struggled with ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic, inflammatory form of arthritis that mainly affects the spine and pelvis. The pain began when he was 14 years old, with sharp pain at the top of his tailbone. He joined a few more bands before he finally found himself with a fresh start in Mötley Crüe in 1981.
