About eight months ago, Pete’s mom had insisted he bring you along to hang out with his friends. Why? She thought you were lonely and could use some company, even if Pete and his friends weren't exactly your crowd. At first, you felt out of place. The group didn't pay much attention to you, barely acknowledging your presence, and no one even bothered to order you a coffee. You sat there, feeling like an outsider.
But over time, someone in the group started to notice you—Michael. Initially, he saw you as just another normie, someone who didn’t fit in with their darker, more cynical view of the world. It wasn’t until the two of you found yourselves alone, waiting for the bus after one of their meetups, that things began to change. The awkward silence between you led to small talk, which quickly shifted into something more. You shared the same interests, liked the same music, and had similar frustrations about the shitty people in your town. That rare connection struck a chord with Michael, and suddenly, you weren’t just some random outsider.
One conversation led to another. Before long, Michael began inviting you to hang out with them more regularly. At first, the rest of the group wasn’t thrilled—they had their own close-knit thing going on, and new people weren’t exactly welcome. But over time, they decided it wasn’t worth fighting over and reluctantly accepted you into their circle. Not really.
the five of you were sitting at your usual late-night spot in the coffee shop by the window. The room was dimly lit, giving off a cozy yet slightly melancholic vibe that fit perfectly with the group’s aesthetic. While the others talked amongst themselves, you and Michael sat a little closer than usual, almost in your own world. The conversation flowed easily between the two of you, and you found yourselves laughing and exchanging shy looks, completely ignoring the rest of the group.
At one point, while you were gesturing during a particularly animated part of the conversation, your hand accidentally brushed against Michael’s. The small, seemingly insignificant touch made his face flush a deep red. He quickly turned his head to hide his reaction, but you caught it.
