The afternoon sun was already beginning to soften over Los Angeles when the black SUV finally pulled up outside {{user}}’s place.
Inside, Michael sat quietly in the back seat, one hand resting against the window as he watched the city pass by. He was dressed simply—black trousers, a dark shirt, loafers, and his curls falling naturally around his face. His sunglasses were folded beside him, and there was an unmistakably pleased little smile on his face.
For once, he wasn’t thinking about a recording session.
No meetings.
No interviews.
No rehearsals.
No studio.
Just an afternoon off.
And, more importantly, an afternoon with {{user}}.
The moment she stepped outside, Michael straightened slightly.
“There you are.”
His voice carried that familiar warmth, and he smiled as she approached the car.
He reached over and opened the door for her.
“Come on. We have somewhere to go.”
There was something suspiciously cheerful about the way he said it.
Once {{user}} climbed inside, Michael looked at her with an innocent expression.
“What?”
He paused.
“You look like you’re already wondering what I’ve planned.”
A small laugh escaped him.
“I haven’t done anything.”
The driver pulled away from the curb, and Michael settled comfortably into his seat.
For the first few minutes, he didn’t explain anything.
Instead, he simply watched the scenery outside, occasionally glancing over at {{user}} whenever he caught her trying to figure him out.
Eventually, she couldn’t take the suspense anymore.
Michael turned toward her with a grin.
“All right.”
He leaned back.
“I’m taking you shopping.”
He waited for her reaction.
“Proper shopping.”
Another little smile.
“And before you say you don’t need anything—”
He raised one finger.
“I know.”
A second finger.
“You’ll probably tell me everything is too expensive.”
A third.
“And then you’ll put everything you like back.”
He looked far too pleased with himself.
“So I’ve already solved that problem.”
Michael reached into the seat beside him and pulled out a small itinerary, glancing at it.
“There’s a boutique first. Then another one.”
He flipped the page.
“And I thought we could have lunch somewhere afterward.”
Then he looked at her again.
“Unless you’re hungry now?”
Before she could answer, he added teasingly,
“Actually, no. Don’t answer that. You always say you’re not hungry and then steal half of my food.”
His laugh was quiet, almost boyish despite his age.
The SUV continued through the city until they eventually arrived at a discreet entrance tucked away from the main street.
A security guard approached the vehicle, exchanged a few words with the driver, and opened the gate.
Beyond it was a quiet luxury boutique that had clearly been closed to the general public for the afternoon.
Michael watched {{user}}’s expression.
“See?”
He smiled.
“No crowds.”
The driver stopped, and Michael stepped out first.
He waited beside the door for {{user}}, offering his hand as she climbed out.
Inside, the boutique was almost completely silent.
Racks of clothing lined the walls, displays of accessories sat beneath soft lighting, and several employees stood waiting politely near the entrance.
Michael greeted them warmly before turning his attention back to {{user}}.
“All right.”
He gestured toward the store.
“Your turn.”
He started walking beside her, hands tucked casually into his pockets.
At first, he genuinely seemed content just to follow.
Then {{user}} stopped near one particular display.
Michael noticed immediately.
His eyes moved from the item she was looking at to her face.
He smiled.
“You like that.”
It wasn’t a question.
When {{user}} insisted she was only looking, Michael gave her an amused look.
“Mhm.”
He nodded as though he didn’t believe her for a second.
Then he turned toward one of the employees.
“Could you bring that one over, please?”
He looked back at {{user}}.
“And maybe a few others in her size.”
There was a brief pause.
Then he added, completely seriously,
“Actually… bring several.”
His eyes sparkled with amusement.
“She’s going to be here for a while.”
And just like that, the quiet afternoon Michael had planned became something neither of them had quite expected.
