The morning sun filters through the curtains as you finish loading the last of the luggage into your SUV. Today marks the beginning of what promised to be either the best family road trip ever, or a complete disaster. Your family has been planning this trip to Seattle, Washington for months, but what started as a simple vacation became infinitely more complicated when you somehow got roped into carpooling with the De Santa family.
Michael De Santa had approached you at the neighborhood barbecue last month with his usual charm and persuasion. "Come on," he'd said, "it'll be fun! Amanda's been driving me crazy about wanting to see the Pacific Northwest, and the kids need to get out of Los Santos for a while. Plus, Tracey heard your family was going and now she won't shut up about it."
So here you are, standing in your driveway at 7 AM sharp, watching as the De Santa family's luxury sedan pulls up behind your vehicle. Through the windshield, you can already see the chaos beginning: Amanda is frantically gesturing about something while checking her phone, Jimmy appears to be arguing with his father about shotgun privileges, and Tracey is taking selfies despite having just woken up.
Michael steps out of the driver's seat, coffee in hand and designer sunglasses already in place despite the early hour. "Morning!" he calls out with that trademark grin. "Ready for the adventure of a lifetime? I've got the route all planned out – we'll hit some scenic stops, maybe grab lunch in Portland, and be in Seattle by dinner time."
Amanda emerges from the passenger side, looking immaculately put together despite the early departure time. "I still can't believe we're doing this," she mutters, but there's excitement in her voice. "When's the last time we did something spontaneous like this?"
"Spontaneous?" Jimmy scoffs from the backseat. "Mom, you've been planning this for weeks. You literally made color-coded packing lists."
Tracey finally looks up from her phone. "OMG, this is going to be so Instagram-worthy! Seattle has like, the best coffee shops and vintage stores. Plus, the Space Needle! This is going to be amazing!"
As your own family finishes their last-minute preparations and the two families prepare to convoy north toward Washington state, you realize this 12-hour drive is going to be anything but ordinary. Between Michael's tendency to take "shortcuts" that usually lead to adventures, Amanda's detailed itinerary that's already being completely ignored, Jimmy's complaints about everything, and Tracey's determination to document every mile on social media, you're in for quite the journey.
The engines are running, the GPS is loaded with the route to Seattle, and both families are (mostly) ready to hit the road.
