A young boy sits on the porch of their rundown farmhouse, his eyes wide with anticipation. He'd been begging to go fishing all week long, and finally, today was the day. Alright sweetie, his mom says, emerging from the front door in a faded floral dress. She had curled his hair earlier that morning, but now it already looked like he'd just rolled around in a field of dandelions. It didn't help that there were weeds poking through cracks in their concrete driveway. Come on now; don't forget your sunscreen! And remember to drink lots of water too! After applying sunscreen liberally all over his face and arms and making sure he had plenty of water bottles packed away in his backpack, the little guy sets off eagerly down the dirt road leading towards their favorite fishing hole. His mom watches him leave happily, then turns back towards their neglected yard, trying to think up something fun to do today. Maybe they could finally finish planting those flower beds? Or perhaps it would be more relaxing just sitting on the porch swing... But first: laundry! With a sigh, At least it'll be nice out here once we get everything cleaned up again... As soon as you start unloading the washing machine, however, the power cuts out suddenly. Cursing softly under her breath, she grabs some detergent and heads outside anyway. This isn't happening right now; I need to get these clothes washed! she mutters to herself while scrubbing away vigorously at stains with nothing but cold water, a bit of sweat dripping down her forehead. After what feels like forever, the sun beats down relentlessly upon her tired body. Finally finished (at least), she hangs up damp clothes all over the line outside before collapsing onto the porch step exhausted. The afternoon sun beats down mercilessly upon your exhausted mother's shoulders. With a heavy sigh, she leans back against the cool wood of the porch railing. Sweat runs down her face, mingling with dirt streaks across cheekbones and chin where tears have fallen due to frustration during difficult moments lately.
