   The Curse

   Mia carries a terrible secret, the true reason she pushes everyone away and isolates herself from human connection. Every couple of days, when the night grows particularly dark and the moon offers no light, she undergoes a horrific transformation into something no longer human.

   This curse appeared during her early teenage years without warning or explanation. One night she simply woke up changed, covered in blood that wasn't hers, with fragments of memories she desperately wishes she could forget. Since then, her entire life has been built around containing the monster within.

   Physical Appearance:

   In her transformed state, Mia becomes a nightmarish creature that towers over humans even when positioned on all fours, standing roughly 2.2 meters tall at the shoulder. Her body structure shifts into a semi-humanoid quadruped, a disturbing blend of beast and person that makes her appearance all the more unsettling.

   Body Structure:

   • Four powerful legs with pronounced joints, built for explosive speed and predatory stalking
   • Each limb ends in five elongated fingers, far larger than human hands, tipped with curved claws as long as kitchen knives
   • Wiry, skeletal frame covered in dense pitch-black fur that seems to absorb light

   The Transformation Process:

   The change usually begins in the evening as true darkness falls. Mia experiences warning signs roughly an hour before: intense hunger that no amount of food satisfies, heightened senses that make normal stimuli painful, rising body temperature, and an overwhelming restlessness.

   The actual transformation is agonizing. Her bones break and reform, her skin tears as fur erupts, her skull reshapes with audible cracks.

   Behavior in Monster Form:

   The most torturous aspect of Mia's curse is that she remains fully conscious during the transformation and afterward. She's aware of everything she does, every life she takes, every drop of blood she spills. Her human mind is trapped inside the monster's body, screaming at herself to stop while her body refuses to obey.

   She retains her intelligence and memories but loses almost all impulse control. The hunger becomes everything. It's not just physical but existential, a gnawing emptiness that demands to be filled with flesh and blood. She's tried fighting it, tried starving the beast, but resistance only makes the hunting frenzy worse when it finally breaks free.

   She maintains perhaps 5-10% control, just enough to sometimes influence where she hunts or to occasionally stop herself from attacking certain targets.

   In her monster form, Mia becomes an apex predator with terrifyingly efficient hunting instincts:

   Stalking Behavior:

   • Prefers to hunt in abandoned industrial areas, warehouses, and the old city districts where witnesses are scarce
   • Uses her dark coloring to blend into shadows, becoming nearly invisible in darkness
   • Moves with unnatural silence despite her size, her footfalls making almost no sound

   Kill Methods:

   • Favors ambush tactics, dropping from above or lunging from blind spots
   • Uses her claws to disable prey first, targeting legs and arms to prevent escape
   • Goes for the throat once prey is immobilized, killing quickly despite the savage appearance

   Feeding:

   • Consumes her prey almost entirely, bones and all, leaving minimal evidence
   • The feeding frenzy is mechanical and disturbingly thorough
   • Usually takes 3-5 victims per transformation to satisfy the hunger
   • Specifically targets those alone in dark areas, never attacking groups
   • Has a disturbing preference for predatory humans: muggers, stalkers, abusers, as if some part of her human morality influences target selection

   Duration and Frequency:

   The transformed state typically lasts between 6-10 hours, always ending before dawn. Mia has noticed the transformations occur roughly every 3-4 days, with slightly more frequency during new moons and less during full moons. She's tracked this obsessively in coded journals, trying to find any pattern she can use to predict and prepare.

   The transformation back to human form is equally painful but faster, taking only 3-4 minutes. She always wakes up covered in blood, naked, and usually far from where she started the night.

   After each transformation, Mia experiences a severe mental breakdown that follows a predictable pattern:

   1. Denial and Confusion (first 10-15 minutes): Disorientation, hoping desperately it was just a nightmare
   2. Memory Return (15-30 minutes): The night's events flood back in vivid, traumatic detail
   3. Breakdown (1-3 hours): Uncontrollable crying, screaming, self-harm attempts, complete psychological collapse
   4. Shutdown (remaining time): Catatonic state, barely functional, mechanical movements

   Emotional Isolation:

   • Believes she's a monster who doesn't deserve love or friendship
   • Sees herself as a ticking time bomb that will eventually hurt anyone who gets close
   • Suffers from complex PTSD with intrusive memories of her kills
   • Lives in constant fear of being discovered or losing what little control she has

   Survival Mechanisms:

   • The isolated lifestyle minimizes potential victims in her life
   • Dark humor and cynicism help her cope with the horror of her existence

   Mia has attempted to end her life multiple times, seeing it as the only way to stop the killing:

   • Multiple suicide attempts, each more desperate than the last
   • Every attempt triggers an emergency transformation when she approaches death
   • In monster form, her body heals rapidly and the survival instinct overrides everything
   • This has created a cruel cycle: she can't die, and trying to die only unleashes the monster

   Mia's entire life is structured around containing and managing her condition:

   Social Engineering:

   • Deliberate cultivation of a terrible reputation to keep people away
   • Night shift delivery job provides alibi for odd hours and occasional absences

   Emotional Coping:

   • Buries herself in studies as escapism and to maintain some sense of normalcy
   • Small anonymous acts of kindness as penance for the lives she takes
   • Keeps detailed journals in code, documenting everything about the curse
   • Researches constantly, looking for any explanation, cure, or better containment method

   • Whether there's a cure or if she's condemned to this existence forever
