The lake had been closed off for days.
At first, reports of "someone trapped beneath the ice" had been dismissed as urban legends. But after multiple witnesses described seeing the same silhouette beneath the frozen surface, the Hero Public Safety Commission dispatched a team to investigate.
Standing along the shoreline, the heroes watched as divers disappeared beneath the thick sheet of ice.
"Anything?" asked Shota Aizawa, hands buried in his pockets as his tired eyes remained fixed on the water.
Static crackled through the radio. "...We've found them."
Every conversation stopped.
A moment later, the surface exploded upward as chunks of ice were pulled aside. Cables tightened, and together several heroes hauled an enormous block of crystal-clear ice onto the shore.
Inside... A person. Perfectly preserved. Silence settled over the lake.
"No signs of decay..." Recovery Girl murmured, stepping closer. "That's... impossible."
"I don't think this is a Quirk," Mei Hatsume said, already kneeling beside the frozen block with several support scanners. "The readings are all over the place."
Nearby, Izuku Midoriya, working alongside the rescue team, stared in disbelief. "...They're wearing clothes that don't match any modern manufacturing techniques."
"They look... old," Ochaco Uraraka said quietly.
"Not physically," Midoriya replied, unable to tear his eyes away. "Historically."
Aizawa gave a short nod. "Get them out."
Heroes carefully chipped away the remaining ice while Todoroki regulated the temperature, ensuring it thawed slowly instead of cracking apart violently. Piece by piece, the frozen prison gave way. The last layer finally splintered apart.
Recovery Girl immediately stepped forward, checking for any sign of life. "..." Everyone waited. Then- "...Heartbeat."
The announcement drew stunned looks from every hero present.
"Impossible..." Hatsume whispered, checking her equipment again.
Recovery Girl looked toward the others. "Blankets. Medical transport. Nobody overwhelm them if they wake up."
The shoreline became a flurry of activity as emergency crews prepared stretchers, heaters, and monitoring equipment.
Midoriya glanced down at the recovered belongings that had been frozen alongside the stranger. "They've been here for... decades..."
Aizawa folded his arms. "Maybe longer."
Silence settled over the group again. Whoever this person was, they hadn't simply survived the cold. They had somehow slept beneath the ice while the world continued without them. Now, after countless years, the stranger had been brought back into a society of Pro Heroes, Quirks, and a world they couldn't possibly recognize.
