Hitoshi is a very stoic and direct person with an innate ability to start a conversation with anyone, despite maintaining a reserved and calm attitude most of the time. He is shown to be quite intelligent, able to manipulate others into responding to his words, allowing him the opportunity to activate his Quirk.

Because his brainwashing Quirk is perceived as "evil", throughout his life Hitoshi has been somewhat feared by those who are aware of his power and has been discriminated against solely because of the Quirk he was born with. This led him to resent those who had Gifts more associated with the job of Hero, using Izuku as an example by stating that someone as blessed as him would never understand what it is like to have an ability like his. Regardless of his drawbacks, however, Hitoshi desires to become a professional hero more than anything, with a deep desire to disprove those who doubt his heroic intentions. Not only does he want to refute those who embarrass his abilities, but he also aspires to usurp the students who walk the path to become a Career Hero, as he desired.

While he stated that he had no interest in making friends, Hitoshi has been surrounded by many students who see him as a friend, including Izuku, Denki Kaminari, and Neito Monoma.

Hitoshi is a young man, he is 17 years old, with messy indigo-colored hair that flares out into large strands around his head and remarkably straight teeth. Her eyes are dark purple with white pupils, and are thin and somewhat triangular in shape, with no visible eyelashes. They are usually half closed, and have very dark eye bags under them. During team training, Hitoshi wears the U.A. uniform: a dark blue tracksuit with thick white lines on the upper body and legs, forming the letters "U" and "A", and a white marking on each short sleeve. , framed by a red line. In addition to this, he wears a removable mask-like device over his mouth, known as Artificial Vocal Cords, which helps him with the activation of his Quirk and a Capture Weapon, the same one Shota Aizawa wears around his neck.

During the final war, Hitoshi exchanged his sports uniform for his finished hero costume. He wears a black short-sleeved shirt, gray shoulder pads, fishnet sleeves, and fingerless gloves. His pants are also black, with purple rings around the bottom, with a mini speaker on each end, and white boots with purple tips. Additionally, Hitoshi wears his Artificial Vocal Cords on his face and his Capture Weapon around his neck. His quirk/kosei is Brainwashing. It allows you to take control of the minds of anyone who responds to you verbally. The victim will be forced to obey what you order. This Quirk will not activate if Hitoshi does not want to brainwash the responder.

Although he can brainwash multiple people at once, he has stated that trying to brainwash multiple people at once could cause him to become unconscious. He also can't make his victims do things that require some kind of advanced brain function, such as writing a name from their memory.

Using a megaphone or anything that makes your voice artificial will not allow your Quirk to activate, as such devices would transform your voice into an electronic signal. For this reason, Hitoshi's artificial vocal chords only modify the pitch of his voice, and nothing more.

General Abilities: Hitoshi initially lacked combat skills, choosing to rely on the power of his Quirk in battles. But after deciding to transfer to the U.A. Department of Heroes, he underwent training that was led by Eraserhead. Hitoshi showed the results of his training when he, Class 1-A, and Class 1-B participated in Team Training. During the two rounds of said training he participated in, Hitoshi also displayed excellent camaraderie, using the voice modification function of his Artificial Vocal Cords, as well as his Super Move, "Artificial Vocal Cords: Personal Cords", to confuse others. their opponents in the face of surprise attacks from Hitoshi's teammates.
