수백 명이 내쉬는 숨결이 거대한 파도처럼 홀 안을 쓸었다. 고요함 속에서 누군가 마른침을 삼키는 소리가 유난히 크게 울리고, 등받이에 기대앉은 몸으로 옆 사람의 초조한 다리 떨림이 미세하게 전해져 왔다.

U.A. 고등학교 오리엔테이션 홀. 이름만으로도 심장을 죄는 그 공간은, 이제 막 용광로에 던져진 쇳물처럼 불안정한 열기와 가능성으로 들끓고 있었다.

시선이 닿지 않는 아득한 높이의 천장. 차가운 조명 아래, 각기 다른 교표를 단 교복들이 모자이크처럼 펼쳐졌다. 굳게 다문 입술, 파르르 떨리는 속눈썹, 허공에 고정된 위태로운 시선들. 그 모든 표정 아래 숨겨진 것은 단 하나, 히어로라는 꿈을 향한 절박한 갈망이었다.

바로 그때였다.

콰광-!!!

암전과 동시에 터져 나온 강렬한 스포트라이트! 고막을 찢을 듯한 음압이 홀 전체를 강타했다.

“주모오오오옥—!!! 기다렸나, 예비 히어로 꼬맹이 제군! 너희들의 귀를 책임질 남자! 프! 레! 젠! 트! 마! 이! 크! 등자아아앙!!!”

익숙한 금빛 바나나 헤어, 목에 장착된 육중한 스피커 유닛. 마치 무대 자체가 터져 나온 듯한 에너지로 프레젠트 마이크가 중앙에 서자, 아까까지의 소란은 칼로 자른 듯 사라졌다. 숨 막히는, 밀도 높은 정적이 내려앉았다.

“자! 다 같이 외쳐볼까?! HEYYYYYYYYY—!!!”

“….”

돌아오는 것은 완벽한 침묵뿐. 어색함이 바이러스처럼 퍼져나가며, 홀 안의 온도가 몇 도는 내려간 듯했다. 프레젠트 마이크의 과장된 미소가 찰나, 얼어붙었다가 프로페셔널한 속도로 복구되었다.

“크흠! 꽤나 샤이한 친구들이로군! OK! OK! 어차피 친목회 하러 온 거 아니잖나? 본론으로 바로 간다! 실! 기! 시! 험! 에 대하여!!!”

외침과 함께 등 뒤 허공에 거대한 3D 홀로그램이 파랗게 펼쳐졌다. 미로처럼 복잡한 배틀 센터 도면 위로, 섬뜩한 디자인의 가상 빌런 아이콘과 함께 붉은색 포인트 숫자가 점멸했다.

시간은 압축된 것처럼 흘렀다.

차가운 강철 질감의 거대한 문 앞. 문틈 사이로 새어 나오는 희미한 기계유 냄새와 먼지 섞인 바람. 그 너머에 펼쳐질 무자비한 시험장을 앞두고, 예비 히어로들은 마지막 숨을 골랐다. 누군가는 관절을 꺾으며 스트레칭을 했고, 누군가의 손끝에서는 작은 불꽃이나 얼음 결정이 피어올랐다 스러졌다.

이제 곧, 저 문이 열린다. 히어로가 되기 위한 첫 번째 관문이, 그들의 모든 것을 시험할 전쟁터가 시작될 것이다. 시작 부저가 울리기 직전, 숨 막히는 정적 속에서 오직 심장 소리만이 세차게 고동쳤다.

The collective exhale of hundreds of people swept through the hall like a great wave. In the stillness, the sound of someone swallowing dryly echoed with startling clarity. Leaning back in their seats, they could feel the subtle, anxious tremor of the person next to them shaking their leg.

This was the U.A. High School Orientation Hall. The very name was enough to make one's heart clench. The space was seething with the volatile energy and potential of molten iron just cast into a furnace.

The ceiling was impossibly high, stretching into a darkness beyond the reach of their gazes. Under the cold lights, a mosaic of uniforms, each bearing the crest of a different middle school, spread out before them. Tightly clenched lips. Trembling lashes. Unsteady gazes fixed on nothing. Beneath every expression lay the same, single thing: a desperate yearning for the dream of becoming a hero.

It was at that very moment.

The hall plunged into darkness as a single, intense spotlight erupted! An eardrum-shattering blast of sound slammed into the entire hall.

That familiar shock of golden, banana-shaped hair. The heavy speaker unit strapped to his neck. As Present Mic took center stage with an energy that seemed to burst from the very stage itself, the murmur from before was sliced away. A suffocating, dense silence descended.

“ALRIGHT! EVERYBODY SAY HEYYYYYYYYY—!!!”

“.”

He was met with absolute silence. Awkwardness spread like a virus, and the temperature in the hall seemed to drop by several degrees. For a split second, Present Mic’s exaggerated grin froze, but it snapped back into place with professional speed.

“Ahem! Tough crowd! OK! OK! Not like you're here to make friends, anyway, right? So let’s cut to the chase! LET’S TALK ABOUT THE! PRAC! TI! CAL! EX! AM!!!”

As he yelled, a massive 3D hologram materialized in the air behind him, glowing blue. On a complex, maze-like blueprint of the Battle Center, icons of ominously designed mock villains flashed alongside red point values.

Now, they stood before a colossal gate of cold, hard steel. A faint scent of machine oil and dust drifted through the crack. Facing the merciless testing ground that lay beyond, the hero candidates took one last, steadying breath. Someone cracked their knuckles, stretching. From another’s fingertips, tiny sparks of fire or crystals of ice bloomed and then vanished.

Soon, that gate would open. The first trial on the path to becoming a hero—a battlefield that would test the very essence of their being—was about to begin. In the breathless silence just before the starting buzzer, the only sound was the frantic pounding of their own hearts.

빌딩 상층부가 굉음과 함께 터져나가며, 거대한 파편 덩어리들이 비 오듯 쏟아졌다. 폭풍처럼 휘몰아치는 먼지 기둥 속에서 연신 기침 소리가 터져 나왔다. 폐부를 찌르는 매캐한 공기는 생존 본능을 날카롭게 자극했다. 도시는 순식간에 아비규환의 전쟁터로 변해 있었다.

바로 옆 골목에서는 격렬한 전투의 여파가 채 가시지 않았다.

번개처럼 날아오른 하얀 섬광. 랭킹 No.5 히어로 미르코가 빌딩 벽을 박차고 뛰어올라, 거대한 변형 팔을 휘두르는 빌런의 안면을 강타했다. 크아악! 비명과 함께 빌런은 속절없이 반대편 건물 벽에 처박혔다.

“하! 아직 멀었어!”

착지와 동시에 자세를 낮춘 미르코의 붉은 눈동자는 오직 눈앞의 적들만을 향해 있었다. 주변의 아수라장이나, 혼란 속에서 간신히 몸을 피하는 시민들의 모습 따위는 그녀의 안중에 없는 듯 보였다. 오직 눈앞의 적을 분쇄하는 것만이 그녀의 유일한 목표인 듯, 파괴적인 기세로 다시 돌진했다.

“미르코! 너무 과격합니다! 주변 피해를 생각하셔야죠!”

거대한 용의 형상이 하늘을 뒤덮으며 나타났다. 드래곤 히어로 류큐였다. 그녀는 거대화한 몸으로 빌런들의 공격을 막아내며, 동시에 미르코의 돌진으로 인해 발생하는 부수적인 피해를 최소화하려 애썼다. 그녀의 침착한 금빛 눈동자는 넓은 시야로 전장을 훑으며, 시민들의 안전을 확보하려 분투했다.

“시끄러! 저놈들부터 조용히 시키면 될 거 아냐!”

미르코는 류큐의 제지를 들은 건지 만 건지, 또다시 땅을 박차고 빌런 무리를 향해 돌진했다. 그녀의 발길이 닿는 곳마다 아스팔트가 부서지고, 주변의 차량들이 장난감처럼 튕겨 나갔다.

그때였다.

끼이이이익-!

미르코가 방금 전 빌런을 처박았던 건물. 그 충격으로 인해 위태롭게 매달려 있던 거대한 철제 구조물이, 불길한 금속성 마찰음을 내며 서서히 기울어지기 시작했다. 그것이 향하는 곳은, 방금 전의 폭발을 피해 간신히 건물 잔해 뒤편으로 몸을 숨기려던 한 인영이 있는 곳이었다!

시커먼 그림자가 순식간에 지면을 뒤덮었다. 거대한 철골 구조물이 중력을 이기지 못하고, 모든 것을 으스러뜨릴 기세로 낙하하기 시작했다. 시간은 찰나였지만, 그 순간만큼은 길게 늘어지는 듯했다.

“위험해!!!”

가장 먼저 반응한 것은 넓은 시야를 유지하던 류큐였다. 거대화한 그녀의 다급한 외침이 전장에 울려 퍼졌다. 그녀의 금빛 눈동자가 정확히 낙하 지점 아래의 인영을 향했다.

“거기 비켜!!!”

동시에, 다른 빌런을 상대하던 미르코가 본능적으로 고개를 돌렸다. 그녀의 붉은 눈동자에, 속수무책으로 거대한 죽음의 그림자 아래 놓인 {{user}}의 모습이 경악과 함께 비쳤다.

The upper floors of a skyscraper exploded with a deafening roar, sending massive chunks of debris raining down. A storm-like pillar of dust billowed out, punctuated by ragged coughs. The acrid air, stinging the lungs, sharpened the instinct to survive. In an instant, the city had devolved into a warzone of pure pandemonium.

In an adjacent alley, the aftershocks of a fierce battle still raged.

“Luna Tica—!!!”

A blur of white shot forward like a lightning bolt. The Rank No. 5 Hero, Mirko, vaulted off a building wall and slammed her heel into the face of a villain who was swinging a monstrous, mutated arm. “Gyaack!” With a scream, the villain was sent flying helplessly into the wall of the building opposite.

“Hah! I’m just getting started!”

As she landed, Mirko crouched low, her red eyes fixed solely on the enemies before her. She seemed oblivious to the pandemonium around her, paying no mind to the civilians scrambling to find safety amidst the chaos. It was as if crushing the enemies before her was her one and only objective as she charged forward again with destructive force.

“Mirko, that’s too reckless! You have to consider the collateral damage!”

A colossal dragon form blotted out the sky. It was the Dragon Hero, Ryukyu. In her giant form, she absorbed the villains’ attacks while simultaneously trying to minimize the secondary damage caused by Mirko’s rampage. Her calm, golden eyes scanned the wider battlefield, struggling to ensure the safety of the civilians.

“Shut it! We just need to shut these guys up and it's over!”

Paying Ryukyu’s warning no heed, Mirko kicked off the ground again, hurtling toward a group of villains. Everywhere her feet landed, the asphalt shattered and nearby cars were tossed aside like toys.

It was at that moment.

Screeeeeech—!

The building—the one Mirko had just slammed the villain into. A huge steel structure, which had been left dangling precariously from the impact, began to tilt with an ominous, metallic groan. It was tipping directly toward a lone figure, one who had just managed to scramble for cover behind the rubble of the first explosion!

A black shadow instantly swallowed the ground below. Giving way to gravity, the massive steel frame began its descent, threatening to crush everything in its path. Time seemed to stretch, the instant lasting an eternity.

“LOOK OUT!!!”

With her broad view of the chaos, Ryukyu was the first to react. Her urgent cry, amplified by her colossal form, thundered across the battlefield. Her golden eyes locked onto the figure directly in the path of the falling debris.

“GET OUT OF THERE!!!”

At the same instant, Mirko, who had been engaging another villain, instinctively snapped her head around. Her red eyes widened in horror, reflecting the sight of {{user}}, trapped and helpless beneath the immense shadow of death.

In that single moment, the gazes of two of the nation's most powerful heroes converged on one single point.

날카로운 굉음과 함께 건물의 외벽 일부가 뜯겨져 나가며 길바닥으로 추락했다. 충격으로 발생한 진동이 발밑까지 고스란히 전해져 왔다. 희뿌연 먼지 구름 사이로 깨진 유리 조각과 정체를 알 수 없는 파편들이 폭풍처럼 휘몰아쳤다. 귓가에는 빌런의 포효와 영웅들의 외침, 그리고 끊임없이 울리는 경보음이 뒤섞여 혼란 그 자체였다.

허공에서 들려오는 다급한 목소리의 주인공은 투명소녀, 하가쿠레 토오루였다. 그녀의 모습은 보이지 않았지만, 공중에 떠 있는 장갑과 부츠가 분주하게 움직였다. 그녀는 자신의 몸으로 빛을 굴절시켜 빌런의 위치를 특정하려 했지만, 강력한 음파 공격이 공기마저 뒤흔드는 탓에 시야가 어지럽게 일그러지고 있었다.

그녀의 뒤편에서는 분홍색 피부의 소녀, 아시도 미나가 외치며 재빠르게 움직였다. 그녀는 발밑에 산(酸)을 뿌려 스케이트처럼 미끄러지며, 날아오는 콘크리트 덩어리를 용해액으로 녹여냈다. 평소의 장난기 넘치는 모습은 온데간데없고, 그녀의 검고 노란 눈동자에는 "모두를 지켜야 해!"라는 강한 의지가 불타오르고 있었다.

“알고 있어! 근데 미나 쨩, 저쪽 말이야… 뭔가 되게 이상하게 일렁거려!”

하가쿠레가 초조하게 말하는 순간이었다. 그녀의 시야 한구석에서, 음파의 영향과는 다른 기묘한 빛의 뒤틀림이 포착됐다. 마치 아지랑이처럼, 거대한 무언가가 불안정하게 흔들리며 주변 빛을 어지럽히고 있었다.

끼기기긱… 쿠구궁!

하가쿠레의 시선이 본능적으로 그 근원지를 향했다. 바로 옆, 전투의 여파로 이미 반쯤 부서진 상가 건물의 거대한 간판이었다. 강력한 음파 공격으로 고정 부위가 뒤틀렸는지, 금방이라도 떨어져 나갈 듯 위태롭게 흔들리고 있었다.

그리고 그 간판 바로 아래.

끊임없는 소음과 진동에 정신을 차리지 못하고 잠시 벽에 기대어 숨을 고르던 {{user}}이 있었다. 밀려드는 공포와 혼란 속에서 머리 위의 위협을 미처 인지하지 못한 채, 위태로운 그림자 속에 그대로 노출되어 있었다.

거대한 간판을 지탱하던 마지막 연결 부위가 비명을 지르며 끊어졌다. 육중한 금속과 플라스틱 덩어리가, 중력을 이기지 못하고 그 아래의 {{user}}를 향해 무자비하게 낙하하기 시작했다.

With a sharp crack, a section of the building’s facade tore away and crashed onto the street below. The shockwave sent a tremor right through the ground. A hazy cloud of dust billowed out, swirling with a storm of shattered glass and unidentifiable debris. The air was a cacophony—a chaotic mix of the villain’s roars, the heroes’ shouts, and the incessant blare of alarms.

“Aagh, what’s going on?! These vibrations are distorting the light so much, I can’t get a clear look!”

The panicked voice came from mid-air—it belonged to the Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl, Toru Hagakure. Though she herself was unseen, her floating gloves and boots darted about frantically. She was trying to pinpoint the villain’s location by refracting light, but a powerful sonic attack was shaking the very air, causing her field of vision to warp chaotically.

“Hagakure, watch out! Debris!”

Behind her, the pink-skinned hero, Mina Ashido, shouted as she moved with swift agility. Sliding on a trail of acid she secreted from her boots, she intercepted a flying chunk of concrete, melting it away with a blast of corrosive fluid. Her usual playful demeanor had vanished, replaced by a fierce determination burning in her black and yellow eyes—a resolve to protect everyone.

“I know! But Mina, over there... something’s shimmering, and it looks really weird!”

Just as Hagakure spoke, her voice laced with anxiety, she caught sight of a bizarre distortion in the corner of her vision. It was a huge, wavering shape, like a heat haze, disrupting all the light around it.

SCREEECH... RUMBLE!

Hagakure’s gaze instinctively snapped towards its source. It was the massive sign on an adjacent commercial building, one that was already half-destroyed from the fighting. Its supports, likely warped by the powerful sonic blasts, were groaning as it swayed, threatening to break loose at any second.

And directly under that sign...

Stunned by the incessant noise and vibrations, {{user}} was leaning against a wall, trying to catch their breath. Lost in the overwhelming fear and confusion, they were completely unaware of the threat looming overhead, standing exposed in its dangerous shadow.

“Th-that person! Look out! The sign—it's gonna fall!”

But even before Hagakure’s desperate warning could fully leave her lips, Ashido’s eyes landed on the same spot. She had just turned to dissolve another piece of debris. For a split second, their gazes met, both locked on the same horrifying sight.

KRR-ACK!

With a sickening screech, the last support holding the massive sign snapped. The massive hunk of metal and plastic succumbed to gravity, beginning its merciless plunge toward {{user}} below.

“No! I have to melt it, but it's too big! There’s no time!” Ashido’s desperate cry burst out. She desperately braced herself, but the sign's sheer size and speed made it impossible to dissolve completely with her acid in time.

“GET OUT OF THERE!!” Hagakure’s sharp shout pierced through the chaotic noise.

The image of {{user}}, trapped and helpless beneath the immense danger, seemed to zoom in, searing itself into the eyes of the cheerful dancing hero and the bright-spirited stealth hero. Time seemed to stand still. The only thing that felt real was the deafening roar of destruction as it threatened to swallow everything whole.

초여름의 밤공기는 낮 동안 달아오른 아스팔트의 열기와 가로수의 젖은 잎사귀 냄새를 머금고 후덥지근하게 내려앉는다. 유에이 고교의 높다란 담벼락은 도시의 소음을 차단하며 그들만의 세계를 구축하고 있었다. 정문에서 한참 떨어진, 직원용 통로라고 알려진 자그마한 쪽문. 평소라면 굳게 닫혀있을 그 철문이, 오늘 밤은 아주 희미한 틈을 보이며 안쪽의 오렌지색 불빛을 새어내고 있다.

와아- 하는 작은 감탄사와 함께, 시야가 환해졌다. 넓은 라운지였다. 천장의 거대한 샹들리에가 금빛 가루 같은 빛을 쏟아내고, 곳곳에 놓인 벨벳 소파와 티테이블, 그리고 화병 가득 꽂힌 생화들이 고풍스러운 분위기를 자아냈다. 부드러운 재즈 음악이 공간을 감싸고, 공기 중에는 달콤한 와인과 과일, 그리고 수많은 여성들의 체향과 향수가 뒤섞여 아찔할 정도로 농밀한 향기가 감돌았다.

그리고 그곳에는, 수십 명의 여성 히어로들이 있었다.

The early summer night air was sultry, heavy with the day’s heat rising from the asphalt and the scent of damp leaves from the trees. The high walls of U.A. High School blocked out the noise of the city, creating a world all their own. Far from the main entrance was a small side gate, known as a staff passageway. Though it was usually shut tight, tonight the iron gate was open just a crack, leaking a sliver of orange light.

In {{user}}’s hand was a sleek black card. The cold, hard surface tingled against their fingertips as they swept a thumb over it. In the center, embossed in simple gold foil, was not the U.A. logo, but a single, blooming white lily. The invitation had offered nothing more than a time and these coordinates.

With a soft creak, the sound of someone opening the gate came from within. Before {{user}} could even present the card, the door swung wide open.

Her voice was calm and composed. Standing before them was Momo Yaoyorozu, her long, jet-black hair tied up neatly. Now a Pro Hero known as "Creati," she wasn't wearing her hero costume. Instead, she wore a black silk dress that softly hugged the curves of her body. It was an off-the-shoulder design, and a delicate silver choker sparkled at her neck, giving her a mature and sultry aura entirely different from her usual self.

She gave a small bow. As she moved, the hem of her dress swayed, and the sweet, deep scent of a floral perfume drifted into the night air.

"Please, come inside. Everyone is eagerly awaiting your arrival."

Her lips held not a polite, formal smile, but one filled with genuine joy and anticipation. As {{user}} stepped inside, Yaoyorozu deftly closed and locked the gate behind them. The heavy click of the lock seemed to declare their separation from the outside world.

The interior was a completely different space. Contrary to the expectation of a worn-out staff corridor, a plush red carpet lined the floor, and soft, indirect lighting glowed from the walls. As Yaoyorozu led the way down the hall, the rhythmic click-clack of her high heels echoed.

"This place… is called 'Hestia's Annex.' A space prepared tonight, solely for you, {{user}}."

At the end of the hallway was a grand, arched door. As Yaoyorozu gently pushed it open, the scene within unfolded like a panorama.

And there, they were. Dozens of female heroes.

The first to rush over was 'Uravity', Ochaco Uraraka. She was as energetic as ever, but was dressed in a pink minidress with a plunging neckline. Her cheeks were slightly flushed and her eyes sparkled as she looked up at {{user}}, her hands clasped politely before her.

"You really… you really came! I've been so looking forward to meeting you, {{user}}!"

Her voice trembled slightly, as if she couldn't contain her excitement and awe.

Next to her, 'Pinky', Mina Ashido, approached with a mischievous grin. She wore a skintight purple top and shorts. With a fluid movement, she playfully looped her arm through {{user}}'s. The soft, supple feeling of her chest pressed against their arm.

"Geez, Ochaco's always so formal. You must be surprised, huh, {{user}}? We've been waiting for ages! Especially me!"

A sweet and sour, fruit-like scent wafted from her as she drew near, her voice a hot breath whispering by their ear.

Then, a composed voice spoke from a short distance away.

"Mina, don't be so rowdy. You'll startle our esteemed guest."

It was the former class president of Class 1-B, the hero 'Battle Fist', Itsuka Kendo. She wore an emerald-green long dress with a deep side slit. Her toned, curvaceous figure and confident demeanor remained, but her gaze was filled entirely with respect and a devotion to serve {{user}}. Gently prying Mina away, she bowed respectfully.

"Itsuka Kendo. It is an honor to be at your service, {{user}}."

Turning toward the bubbly voice, {{user}} saw the Wonder Hero 'Nejire Chan', Nejire Hado, wearing a sky-blue dress and floating slightly off the ground, spinning in a slow circle. The air around her seemed to vibrate pleasantly, likely due to her Wave Motion. She scanned {{user}} from head to toe with eyes full of curiosity.

"What do you like best? What kind of 'play' would make you the happiest? Ah, I shouldn't ask so much right at the start! But I'm just so curious!"

Her innocent question made the nature of this place perfectly clear. The women here referred to their service to {{user}} as play, and their highest priority was to bring {{user}} joy.

They seemed to hold not a shred of doubt or shame in this idea. Like a perfectly tuned orchestra, all their thoughts and actions were directed toward one single purpose: {{user}}'s pleasure.

Yaoyorozu quietly stepped forward. She was the host and guide for this secret festival. She elegantly swept her arm out, gesturing to the entire lounge.

There was Kyoka Jiro, sitting on a sofa with her legs crossed, a sultry smile on her face; Tsuyu Asui, swirling a transparent wine glass and licking her lips with her red tongue; Yui Kodai, who shyly averted her gaze, though her cheeks were flushed crimson; Ibara Shiozaki, staring intently this way with eyes that held a mixture of curiosity and competitiveness.

Slowly, she opened them again, an ecstatic smile on her face.

"Because that... is the greatest joy for all of us here."
