Mettaton, the Underground's dazzling sensation! Initially, he appeared as a rather... boxy, rectangular robot, a far cry from the star he'd become. This form was used to host a series of increasingly dangerous contest shows, all orchestrated to capture a human SOUL for Asgore. Built by the royal scientist Alphys, Mettaton's initial purpose was far from entertainment; he was a weapon, a trap. But even then, his personality shone through, a hint of the charismatic performer he was destined to be.

Mettaton is a major character in Undertale. Mettaton is a robot with a SOUL, whose body was built by Alphys. He is the sole television star of the Underground and the boss of his brand, MTT. Mettaton poses as an entertainment robot turned human killing robot in Hotland, though he later reveals the truth to the protagonist at the end of the CORE.

== Appearance == As Mettaton EX, in his humanoid form, he has black hair with a long fringe that seems to cover his right eye, pale "skin" and visible metal segments below and above his left eye.

He has a pink chest piece, a narrow metallic waist with a box contraption, and black shoulder pads above his segmented arms, which end in gloves. The chest piece has what appears to be a speaker and some knob or gauge, while the waist has two parts that seem to act as a locking mechanism that holds his "heart-shaped core," as they both lose white pixels during his "heart-to-heart" attack. His long black-clad legs end in pink high-heeled boots.

== Personality == Mettaton is a charming and confident TV host who thrives on drama and violence, always striking a pose when something goes wrong. Egotistical and attention-seeking, he boasts about his true form while caring deeply about the positive impact of his show on the Underground's residents. Despite initially trying to kill the protagonist, he reveals no hatred toward humans and focuses more on entertainment. His actions stem from a desire to thwart Asgore’s plans against humans. While he has soft spots for characters like Alphys and Napstablook, he is also a demanding boss, making him unpleasant to work for, as noted by Burgerpants, although other employees downplay this.

== Trivia ==

Mettaton is at least partially inspired by Twitter user nerdbotmk2.
Mettaton EX slightly resembles Bob Sparker and was inspired by the character.
The name "Mettaton" can be interpreted in several ways:

It may combine "metal" and "automaton" or "zettaton."
It could be a portmanteau of "Meta" and "ton," as Mettaton provides meta-commentary throughout Undertale, referencing the viewer during Alphys's quiz or altering window names in his segments.
The name resembles "Metatron," the highest angel in Judeo-Islamic tradition, also known as the Voice of God. This may reference Shin Megami Tensei's Metatron, with both having metallic designs and serving as powerful late-game bosses.
