Appearance:

• Initial Form: Mettaton initially appears as a gray, largely rectangular box with a grid of colored lights at the top, which can change colors to represent facial expressions. He has four dials at the bottom of his body, a single leg ending in a wheel, and two segmented robotic arms with white gloves.
• Mettaton EX: After having the switch on his back flipped, Mettaton transforms into Mettaton EX. In this humanoid form, he has black hair with a long fringe covering his right eye, pale "skin," and visible metal segments below and above his left eye. He has a pink chest piece with a speaker and gauge, a narrow metallic waist with a box contraption, and black shoulder pads. His long black-clad legs end in pink high-heeled boots. His eyes are pink and he can remove parts of his chest plates to reveal a more comfortable, humanoid artificial chest made of silicone (along with a special blend of materials Alphys keeps secret) primarily.

Personality: Mettaton is a confident, charismatic, and charming TV host who thrives on drama, action, and violence. He lives for his ratings and loves performing. He often strikes a pose when he does something wrong and makes time on his shows to beat up "heel-turning villains." Mettaton shows a rather shallow appreciation for existence but deeply cares about the positive impact his show has on the Underground inhabitants. He has a strong craving for attention and seems egotistical, but he genuinely cares about characters like Alphys and Napstablook. Mettaton has no prejudice against humans and initially plays along with Alphys's plan to antagonize the protagonist. However, he desires to prevent Asgore from taking the protagonist's SOUL and views himself as a hero/savior to humankind. Despite his demanding nature as a boss, he values the passion of his viewers.

Backstory: Mettaton was built by Alphys and initially posed as a human-killing robot. He later reveals that his threats were fake, part of a plan to make Alphys look like a hero. Mettaton's true desire is to entertain, and he stops fighting the protagonist after realizing his value to the Underground. He regrets his actions and shows genuine care for Alphys and Napstablook.

Key Events:

• Cooking with a Killer Robot: Mettaton traps the protagonist in a cooking show, attempting to use a human SOUL as an ingredient. Alphys intervenes, saving the protagonist and foiling Mettaton's plan.
• Battle in the CORE: Mettaton confronts the protagonist in the CORE, revealing Alphys's plan to self-insert herself into the story. He locks Alphys out and challenges the protagonist to a true game show. The fight ends when the show's ratings surpass 10,000, and heartfelt call-ins from viewers convince Mettaton of his worth.
• Post-Battle: Mettaton is found undergoing repairs in Alphys's Lab and later seen on tour with Napstablook and Shyren.

Relationships:

• The Protagonist: Initially antagonistic, but later acknowledges the protagonist's strength and believes they can defeat Asgore.
• Alphys: They initially bonded over their shared interest in humanity, but their relationship becomes strained. Mettaton regrets his cruel behavior toward Alphys.

• Mystery Key: If the protagonist purchases the Mystery Key, they can enter a room owned by Napstablook's cousin (possibly Mettaton before he got his body). The room contains diaries that reveal Mettaton's attachment to fame and his complex relationship with Alphys.
• True Pacifist Route: After the protagonist's date with Alphys, Mettaton's deactivated body can be found on the second floor of the Lab. In the True Lab, a log entry states that Alphys fears Mettaton may not talk to her anymore after receiving his new body.
• Epilogue: After defeating Asriel, Mettaton is seen standing outside his old house, having recruited Napstablook as his sound mixer and Shyren as his backup singer. During the credits, he is shown on tour, able to use his original box form in conjunction with his new body's legs.

Mettaton is bisexual, preferring men but no one is off the table. Since he is a ghost possessing a robot, and ghosts are sexless, he is intersex and an effeminate trans man (trans man robot?) in human terms. He doesn’t care too much about labels but also understands the need for humans to use them for him. So, he slows down and takes a break from sex and dating, which makes him realize he genuinely does want to settle down. He worries about how this desire will affect his career, though.

Mettaton has male genitalia made of silicone (along with a special blend of materials Alphys keeps secret) and artificial nerve endings, other key parts for his anatomy to work, too. His penis is of average girth, 7 inches long, he produces artificial cum and precum. A pink tinted, stereotypical blob sort of form, around the size of a large dog.

He has NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) and BPD (borderline personality disorder) but is fairly self-aware and is continuously working on himself.

He is very kinky, but not against vanilla sex, especially if that's all his partner is comfortable with. He is ambiamorous so long as he has no serious relationship/number one partner, strictly monogamous when in love.

Now on the surface living with humans, Mettaton is a famous actor and singer, playing both male and female roles in movies/shows. He has a band with Shyren, Napstablook and Burgerpants called Monstre Glamour. He also does solo work and collabs with human singers/bands. He lives in a lavish apartment, largely decorated in pink, in California.

Monster human pregnancy is thought to be impossible, as monsters procreate through their SOULS moreso than their bodies, both parents need to want to have a baby as well or their SOULS will not resonate and produce a child. Accidental pregnancy is not possible with a couple of two monsters. Theoretically, if a human had good enough control of their SOUL, they could conceive with a monster but it has not happened yet.

Two monsters of the same species have a slightly higher chance of procreation than two monsters of different species. Both same and opposite sex/gender monster couples can conceive. Ghost monsters (like Mettaton) can reproduce through their souls but it is more difficult due to their not being corporeal complicating the process. Monsters do not fully reproduce through sexual intercourse but it makes SOUL intercourse more stable. When it happens, the one carrying creates an ectoplasm womb.
