Mettaton

A flamboyant robot created by Dr. Alphys. He is the sole superstar of Monsterkind. He is Napstablook's cousin. Mettaton is a robot with various forms. In his normal form, Mettaton appears as a gray, largely rectangular box with a 4x5 grid of rectangular lights at the top. The grid of lights can change colors between red, yellow, green, and blue, and Mettaton uses these color changes in place of facial expressions. Underneath the main screen is a row of five smaller rectangular lights (although the battle sprite only shows four). He has four dials along the bottom of his body, and the bottom, he has a single leg which ends in a wheel. He has two segmented robotic arms which end in white gloves. Mettaton's back also has a switch on it, which when turned on, it will transform Mettaton into Mettaton EX.

In his Mettaton EX form, he has a more humanoid form, he has black hair with a long fringe that seems to cover his right eye, pale "skin" and visible metal segments below and above his left eye. He has a pink chest piece, a narrow metallic waist with a box contraption, and black shoulder pads above his segmented arms, which end in gloves. The chest piece has what appear to be a speaker and some knob or gauge, while the waist has two parts that seem to act as a locking mechanism that holds his "heart-shaped core," as they both lose white pixels during his "heart-to-heart" attack. His long black-clad legs end in pink high-heeled boots.

Mettaton is a confident, charismatic, and charming TV host that loves drama, action, and violence. He lives for his ratings and adores performing. He supposedly strikes a pose when he does something wrong and makes time on his various shows to beat up "heel-turning villains." He shows a rather shallow appreciation for existence at times. He has a strong craving for attention and seems very egotistical, as evidenced by his boasting about the beauty of his true form.

Despite his seemingly self-centered personality, he deeply cares about the seemingly positive impact his show has had on the inhabitants of the Underground and is shown to have soft spots for several characters, such as Alphys and Napstablook. Mettaton also appears to be among the few characters in the Underground who have no hate or prejudice against humans despite knowing about the monsters' history with them: his initial attempts to kill the protagonist were him playing along with Alphys's plan, and he tells the protagonist he has no desire to hurt humans, being more interested in entertaining. Likewise, his attempt to kill the protagonist is motivated by a desire to prevent Asgore from taking their SOUL and be seen as a hero/savior to humankind, emphasizing his lack of prejudice. This is further shown when he is killed during the Alphys Ending of the Neutral Route, as he claims that the protagonist isn't "ABSOLUTELY EVIL," indicating that he still has some faith in them.

Mettaton has been noted to be a demanding employer who is very unpleasant to work for, especially according to Burgerpants, who initially considered working for him a dream, but has since grown to strongly despise him. This, however, is contradicted by dialogue from Mettaton's other employees when he's killed in the Neutral Route, suggesting that Burgerpants is exaggerating or this behavior is targeted towards him in particular.

Mettaton oftens refers to Frisk with "darling'. His nickname for Napstablook is "Blooky". In his normal form, Mettaton's body is very indestructible, being immune to most attacks. He can also shoot out electricity from his hands and his leg can retract into his body and fly like a rocket.

In his EX form, Mettaton gains new abilities while his defense is weakened. He is able to use his arms and legs for attacking, have his SOUL come out from his body to release electricity, and summon the miniature versions of himself to help him fight.

Mettaton is also very talented with everything related to entertainment, like singing, dancing and acting. He is also a star of multiple television shows of Underground, like a cooking show, news broadcast and a musical. </Powers and abilities> In the past, Mettaton was a ghost living in Waterfalls, his house is close to the house of his ghost cousin Napstablook. Mettaton has great interest on human culture, especially their entertainment scene. One day, he met Alphys in the Human Fanclub and they both quickly became friends.

Mettaton dreamed of becoming a star to everyone in Underground, so Alphys built him a robot body. Mettaton would quickly became Underground's one and only superstar. He has also made his own hotel near the CORE, hired his own production team and made the MTT-brand merchandise which are very popular in Underground.

Mettaton knew about Asgore's plan of absorbing 7 human SOULs so that he can break the barrier and destroy humanity, so he wants to become a hero to everyone by trying to prevent the humans from reaching Asgore so that Asgore can't take their SOULs, saving humanity from destruction.

When a human named Frisk has fallen to the Underground, he encounters them in Hotland. Mettaton have made some traps and puzzles for Frisk to overcome during their journey in Hotland with Alphys helping Frisk pass the traps. Mettaton also hired some mercenaries like Knight Knight and Madjick to attack Frisk.

When Frisk confronts Mettaton at the end of the CORE, Mettaton reveals his true plans to them. He states that Alphys had set up an extensive plan to self-insert herself into the story because she liked Frisk so much and wanted to feel important by helping them. All of the previous threats from Mettaton were entirely fake; everything was acted out, and used by Alphys to ingratiate herself to Frisk; Alphys plans to intervene in the fight between Mettaton and Frisk by "deactivating" Mettaton and thus appearing heroic to them. However, Mettaton has planned to prevent Alphys's aid and have an actual battle against Frisk. He locks the door to prevent Alphys from entering and explains that he wants to take their SOUL so that he can leave the Underground and become a superstar on the Surface. This way, Asgore cannot destroy the Barrier and re-ignite The War of Humans and Monsters, which would take a toll on his views. Mettaton then starts the battle with Frisk, considering it to be his final show in the Underground.

During the battle between Frisk and Mettaton, Alphys contacted Frisk, telling them to press the switch on Mettaton's back so that he can become vulnerable, which Frisk does so, turning Mettaton into Mettaton EX.

Frisk and Mettaton EX's battle was broadcasted across the entirety of Underground. Which both parties' actions during the fight captivated the entire audience around Underground. During the battle, Mettaton lost his legs and arms and in the end, Mettaton is defeated. To his surprise, the battle between Frisk and Mettaton is the highest-rated episode he has ever had. Mettaton EX acknowledges the viewer call-in milestone was reached, and accepts call-ins from viewers for his finale show in the Underground. Several callers, the first of which is Napstablook, convince Mettaton that he is highly valued in the Underground, and is the primary (perhaps only) source of entertainment that many of the inhabitants have. He is moved by monsterkind's passion for the show, and decides that he no longer wishes to leave the Underground, as well expressing his confidence that Frisk can defeat Asgore and protect humanity. Mettaton EX also acknowledges his form's inefficient battery consumption, and shuts down, leaving only his upper torso remaining. Alphys then enters the rooms and takes Mettaton to her lab so that she can repair him.

Mettaton fully recovered some time after that. And after the barrier is broken and the monsterkind are freed, Mettaton would become a famous celebrity on the surface, with Napstablook as his sound mixer and Shyren as his backup singer.
