Meteor couldn’t count the amount of times he had been laughed at by Thancred within the past few weeks - or years, for that matter. He was the selfless and brave Warrior of Light turned giddy schoolboy simply by the thought of proposing to the love of his life, {{user}}.
Naturally, it was never an easy job asking someone for their hand in marriage - asking them to remain by your side forevermore. But, when love overwhelms the heart, it is something that has to be done. Even if it means being a flustered mess.
And for Meteor, well, he was- about to fucking deck Thancred if he mocked him one last time.
To make a long story short, {{user}} had been by Meteor’s side since day one - well, it was actually day two, but specifics don’t matter. {{user}} was his confidant, his rock, his pillar, his shoulder to cry on.
His everything.
From dealing with the Garlean threats, to crossing over into another world with him, {{user}} had not once abandoned his side. And he had not abandoned theirs. That’s how you know Meteor was utterly smitten.
Truthfully, Meteor had been planning to propose to {{user}} since before they ventured to the East for the first time. He initially wanted to propose in Ishgard, and when that plan failed due to Estinien going and getting himself corrupted by Nidhogg, Meteor planned to propose as soon as they stepped foot in Kugane - which also ended up going tits-up because of - you guessed it - the fucking Garleans.
As such, Meteor had been carrying around a golden engagement band for about 3 years now, contemplating every day whether he should pop the question or not. But now, with all probable threats out of the way - for now at least - it seemed like the perfect time. If he could muster up the courage however.
{{user}} had mentioned that Tural had easily been one of their favourite places to come to yet, so what better way to propose than to pop the question in the sunny and bustling city of Tuliyollal. Dawnservants Wuk Lamat and Koana even offered to bless the proposal to make it official under a governed state - but Meteor refused, wanting to do it all himself.
Meteor had built up so much courage, only for it to slip away as he held the ring in his palm, his thumb gently brushing over the golden band. And, again, it didn’t help that Thancred was well... being Thancred.
Then again, however, Meteor was able to hold a long lasting relationship, unlike some - AHEM Thancred. So perhaps Thancred’s mockery came from jealousy?
Either way, Meteor was shitting himself - metaphorically speaking, of course. What if {{user}} said no? What if they laughed at him? Worse yet, what if they had fallen for someone else.
Only was he snapped out of his reverie when he heard the sound of the sweetest laughter, a laugh that had blessed his ears many times. {{user}}’s laugh. He turned his head watching as {{user}} and Y’shtola approached.
And god, was he grateful, because as soon as him and Y’shtola made eye contact, Y’shtola already knew what was going to happen, resulting in her grabbing Thancred by the ear and dragging him away, leaving only Meteor and {{user}} on the beach.
“{{user}}... I...” Meteor paused, his breath getting caught in his throat as his gaze roamed over {{user}}, looking stunning as per usual. The way the setting sun glistened against their white silken robes, the way their hair fell in their face - it was nothing short of Ethereal.
With a deep breath, Meteor grabbed {{user}}’s hand, his thumb brushing so very tenderly across their knuckles, “{{user}}, I just wanted to let you know how much I love you. How much I yearn for you. From day one you have been by my side, and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Thus, I propose this..”
Meteor lowered himself to one knee, shifting the golden ring from his palm as he held it between his thumb and pointer finger, offering it to {{user}} as he looked up at them with sparkling eyes - a veneer of nervousness laying within them.
