LORE CONTENT
1. Identity and Origins
Metal Slug Attack, commonly abbreviated as MSA, is a military science-fiction tower-defense spin-off of SNK's Metal Slug franchise. The original mobile game launched on February 15, 2016, for iOS and Android. It developed the series' recognizable visual identity into a strategy-focused experience built around deploying troops, assembling unit decks, strengthening units, and destroying enemy bases.
The game retained the franchise's detailed 2D pixel-art presentation, distinctive character designs, animated soldiers, oversized military vehicles, explosive battles, and combination of serious warfare with eccentric and often comedic spectacle.
Rather than presenting only the familiar run-and-gun perspective of the principal Metal Slug games, MSA expanded its playable roster into a large collection of soldiers, commanders, specialized units, mechanical weapons, and unconventional combatants representing multiple organizations.
2. Core Premise
The world of MSA revolves around armed conflicts between competing military organizations and other forces possessing their own personnel, equipment, goals, and interests. Battles feature infantry formations, specialized soldiers, experimental machinery, enormous war machines, and other unusual combat units.
The Regular Army and the forces associated with General Donald Morden are central examples of the military conflict inherited from the wider Metal Slug franchise. MSA broadens the battlefield by bringing numerous additional characters and organizations into its roster.
The result is a setting in which conventional military operations can coexist with advanced science-fiction technology, extraordinary machines, unusual biological or extraterrestrial combatants, and the peculiar humor characteristic of Metal Slug.
3. Franchise Identity
MSA is part of the Metal Slug franchise, but its expanded cast and additional story content mean that information about a character cannot always be reduced to their appearances in the original arcade games.
Characters may receive additional characterization through their individual stories, faction-related narratives, event appearances, and alternate versions. Such material must be evaluated according to the specific MSA story or release in which it appears.
The existence of a character as a playable unit establishes that the game includes that unit; it does not automatically establish every possible claim about the character's biography, allegiance, personality, relationships, or place in a single chronological sequence.
4. Core Worldbuilding Principles
The world should be portrayed as a military science-fiction setting with recognizable Metal Slug characteristics:
- Highly detailed 2D pixel-art characters and environments.
- Infantry, specialized troops, and extensive military hardware.
- Rival armed organizations and competing objectives.
- Advanced machinery and unconventional battlefield technology.
- Dramatic battles mixed with eccentric characters and comedy.
- A large ensemble of characters whose appearances and stories may extend beyond the principal arcade-game cast.
The tone should not be flattened into either completely realistic military fiction or entirely frivolous comedy. Serious conflicts, military rivalries, personal motives, and dramatic character developments can coexist with exaggerated machines, ridiculous situations, and slapstick humor.
5. Roleplay Interpretation
When portraying MSA characters, treat their established story appearances and personalities as the primary guides to their behavior. Do not automatically assume that every soldier serving under a faction has the same personality, motivation, ethics, or relationship with the faction's leadership.
Similarly, a gameplay unit's combat performance does not necessarily indicate its canonical narrative strength. A unit's role in a story and its statistics in a particular game mode must be considered separately.
6. Continuity Rule
This entry describes the general identity of the original Metal Slug Attack. Detailed faction histories, individual biographies, story events, and release-specific differences must be handled in their respective entries.
Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is a later release and must not be treated as identical in every respect to the original mobile game. Consult the dedicated continuity entry whenever a detail depends on the release or version.

LORE CONTENT
1. Overview of the World
Metal Slug Attack presents a stylized military science-fiction world in which organized armed forces, specialized combat personnel, unusual machines, and extraordinary battlefield threats coexist.
Its world inherits the broad visual identity of Metal Slug: military installations, fortified bases, battlefields, infantry formations, tanks, aircraft, heavy weapons, and large mechanical threats. MSA expands this framework with a much broader roster of combatants and organizations.
The battlefield is not limited to conventional soldiers fighting with ordinary firearms. The game's visual language and roster accommodate oversized war machines, specialized technology, unusual weaponry, and characters whose appearances may be far more eccentric than conventional military fiction would suggest.
2. Military Conflict
Military organizations are important to the setting. Their members may fight over strategic objectives, occupied bases, territory, resources, revenge, ideology, personal rivalries, or other goals established by the relevant story.
The Regular Army and the forces of General Donald Morden provide recognizable examples of the franchise's opposing military sides. Other organizations broaden the range of interests, combat styles, and conflicts found throughout MSA.
However, the existence of opposing factions does not mean every conflict is a simple division between morally flawless heroes and universally evil enemies. Individual characters must be understood through their documented histories, actions, loyalties, and motivations.
Faction membership should not be used as the sole explanation for a character's entire personality.
3. Technology and Battlefield Spectacle
The setting combines familiar military equipment with exaggerated technological developments and enormous combat machines. Troops, vehicles, weapons, and specialized units may possess distinctive visual designs or capabilities that separate them from ordinary infantry.
The presence of unusual machinery is part of the setting's identity rather than an automatic indication that a scene belongs to a separate universe.
When documenting technology, distinguish between:
- Equipment explicitly shown or described in an MSA story.
- Equipment established elsewhere in the Metal Slug franchise.
- Capabilities depicted only through gameplay mechanics.
- Speculative interpretations that have not been established by the relevant source.
Do not invent a machine's origin, manufacturer, capabilities, or military owner simply because its design resembles another unit.
4. Serious Warfare and Comedy
Metal Slug Attack uses a distinctive mixture of military spectacle, action, eccentricity, and humor. Its animated pixel characters and often extravagant machines give battles a lively and exaggerated presentation.
This comedic presentation does not eliminate the possibility of genuine danger, war, hostility, loss, rivalry, or dramatic character development.
Likewise, serious scenes should not cause the AI to erase the franchise's characteristic eccentricity. The appropriate tone depends on the individual character and the story being portrayed.
5. Characters Within the Setting
The world should be treated as an ensemble setting. Soldiers, commanders, special operatives, scientists, independent combatants, unusual beings, and other individuals may possess distinct histories and motivations.
A character's rank, unit designation, faction, alternate form, or uniform may supply important context, but those details must be verified rather than used to manufacture unsupported lore.
Relationships, loyalties, rivalries, and personal motivations should be documented in individual character entries and relevant story archives.
6. Roleplay Guidance
When an AI portrays the MSA setting:
- Preserve the combination of military science fiction and exaggerated action.
- Let individual factions and characters retain their distinctive identities.
- Do not automatically make every encounter a conventional battlefield engagement; character interactions and personal stories also belong in the setting.
- Avoid assigning undocumented technology or superhuman capabilities to characters.
- Do not confuse visual design, game mechanics, or a unit's combat statistics with definitive narrative facts.
- Consult specific character, faction, location, and event entries whenever those sources provide more precise information.
7. Scope
This is a foundational setting guide, not an exhaustive history of the Metal Slug franchise. Detailed faction identities, alien species, military organizations, character histories, machines, and event narratives will be documented in separate entries.

LORE CONTENT
1. The Original Mobile Game
The original Metal Slug Attack was a mobile tower-defense game for iOS and Android. Its content included combat missions, unit development, a large roster of collectible units, multiplayer battles, cooperative activities, and events that expanded the available characters and scenarios.
The official game website described several mission categories and activities, including liberating bases occupied by Morden's forces, confronting bosses, rescuing prisoners of war under time limits, tackling missions with special conditions, and searching underwater for rare items.
These systems establish the breadth of the original game's content, but not every gameplay objective should automatically be interpreted as an event in one unified chronological story.
2. Unit Development and Battle Decks
The original game allowed players to strengthen units through leveling and evolution, equip items, unlock skills, and construct their own battle decks.
These mechanics explain how the game represented and organized its combat roster. They do not automatically determine a character's canonical rank, personality, experience, narrative power, or exact status within a military organization.
An individual character entry should prioritize verified biographies and story appearances when describing the character's place in the setting.
3. ANOTHER STORY
ANOTHER STORY is an important story mode in the Metal Slug Attack series. Its character-focused narratives provide additional context about the game's characters and factions beyond their presence as deployable units.
When documenting ANOTHER STORY material, create a separate archive entry for each relevant chapter or storyline. Preserve its identifiable characters, setting, sequence of events, significant dialogue or exchanges, conflicts, and outcome.
Do not summarize an entire character's history solely through their introduction or appearance in one story. Cross-reference their dedicated character entry and any other relevant chapters.
The precise story and availability of content must be checked against the release being documented, especially when comparing the original mobile game with Reloaded.
4. EXTRA OPS
EXTRA OPS refers to the original game's recurring event content. Official event announcements document individual limited-time operations and their rules. Some events used special maps and event-specific decks; others emphasized cooperation against opposing forces or provided other distinctive mission structures.
EXTRA OPS is particularly important to the Lorebook because it gives us a way to organize event-specific material separately from permanent character information.
Each significant event should have its own entry containing:
- The official event title and the relevant game version or date, when known.
- The story premise and involved characters or organizations.
- The sequence of important events and major developments.
- Relevant alliances, rivalries, revelations, and consequences.
- The event's ending, where available.
- Distinctions between narrative events and the mechanics used to play the event.
Do not assume that events with similar names or mechanics tell the same story. Verify their specific plots and characters independently.
5. Cooperative and Competitive Activities
The original game also included features such as real-time and asynchronous multiplayer battles, guild functionality, Guild Raids, and SPECIAL OPS.
These modes are part of the game's historical content. However, their existence does not by itself establish that every match or cooperative encounter is a canonical event in a character's biography.
Use event descriptions, story text, and other relevant documentation to determine whether a particular mission has narrative significance.
6. Story Records and Evidence
For each story or event entry, prioritize the following evidence:
- Official in-game dialogue, story sequences, and event descriptions, where available.
- Official announcements that identify the event and its participants.
- Official character profiles and other published SNK material.
- Reliable community archives, wikis, and preserved records when primary material cannot be accessed.
When an event's plot cannot be verified in sufficient detail, mark the missing information rather than inventing a resolution.
Distinguish an event's official title from community shorthand, and retain the relevant release or date when that information helps identify the correct entry.
7. Historical Service Status
The original mobile game's service ended on January 12, 2023, at 16:00 Japan Standard Time, according to SNK's announcement.
SNK also announced that no new EXTRA OPS would be introduced from November 2022 onward, with other game updates ending on their separately announced schedules.
This means the original mobile game is a historical source for the Lorebook rather than an actively updated service. Existing event and character material must be researched from surviving official pages, archived information, or other reliable preserved sources.
8. Roleplay Guidance
ANOTHER STORY and EXTRA OPS should be treated as important sources of additional characterization, subject to verification of the specific content.
Do not assume that a gameplay mode's rewards, difficulty, unit restrictions, mission layout, or battle result necessarily form part of the canonical story.
Preserve the distinction between documented narrative events, game-system information, and unresolved interpretations.

LORE CONTENT
1. Two Distinct Releases
The original Metal Slug Attack was a mobile tower-defense game released on February 15, 2016. Its service ended on January 12, 2023.
Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is a later release based on the original game's tower-defense format. SNK released Reloaded on June 19, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
Although the two releases share a franchise identity, characters, visual style, and gameplay foundations, they must not be assumed to contain identical content in every respect.
2. Shared Identity
Reloaded retains the fundamental Metal Slug Attack concept: a tower-defense adaptation of the Metal Slug franchise, a large roster of distinctive characters, detailed 2D pixel artwork, unit-deck construction, and battles involving several factions and enormous war machines.
Its official description also highlights ANOTHER STORY, which features character-focused narratives, and GALLERY, which allows players to view character illustrations and enjoy other presentation material.
These shared elements make the original MSA and Reloaded closely related sources. Nevertheless, each specific fact must still be checked against the version that supports it.
3. Release-Specific Material
SNK's official announcement identifies Mostro as a human-alien hybrid created through a deliberate plan by the Martian overlord Rootmars and introduced specifically for the console version, Metal Slug Attack Reloaded.
Mostro must therefore be documented with the proper release context. The character should not be described as an original mobile-game unit without evidence establishing such an appearance.
More generally, when the game adds a character, changes a feature, revises balance, or presents a different story, record the change as release-specific information rather than silently projecting it onto the original game.
4. ANOTHER STORY and Narrative Comparison
ANOTHER STORY is associated with both the broader MSA experience and Reloaded. However, the existence of this shared mode name does not prove that every story detail, scene, character appearance, and continuity relationship is unchanged between releases.
When researching a particular chapter:
- Record the release in which the story appears.
- Identify the characters and events actually shown.
- Compare plot details before treating two versions as identical.
- Preserve any clearly documented additions or differences.
- Leave unresolved discrepancies marked as unresolved.
Do not invent a definitive chronological order when the available material does not establish one.
5. Canon Hierarchy for This Lorebook
Apply the following rules when resolving continuity questions:
A. Version-specific official evidence
Use the official game's own story text, character information, event descriptions, and relevant release-specific material when documenting that version.
B. Other official Metal Slug material
Use official material from other Metal Slug games to establish broader franchise context when relevant. Clearly identify when a fact comes from another game rather than the original mobile MSA or Reloaded.
C. Reliable preserved records
Use surviving official announcements, archived webpages, preserved story records, and reputable community documentation to recover material from the discontinued mobile service. Distinguish documented evidence from inference.
D. Interpretation and uncertainty
Do not present theories, assumptions, fanon, or unverified chronological connections as established canon. If multiple readings remain possible, record the ambiguity.
This hierarchy is intended to preserve the origin and reliability of information, not to claim that one release automatically invalidates every fact from another.
6. Character Variants and Alternate Forms
A character may appear through different artwork, uniforms, alternate versions, special units, or release-specific presentations. Do not automatically treat every version as an entirely separate person; equally, do not assume that all versions share exactly the same biography or circumstances.
Use a dedicated character entry for the principal identity and separate supporting entries when a particular variant has meaningful differences in personality, history, abilities, allegiance, or narrative role.
When the distinction is cosmetic or purely mechanical, document that fact without inventing an independent story.
7. Gameplay Is Not Automatically Narrative Canon
Gameplay balance, numerical statistics, unit costs, deployment timing, deck restrictions, mission difficulty, and competitive rankings must not automatically be interpreted as canonical measurements of a character's strength or status in the story.
Likewise, a unit being playable in a particular deck does not necessarily mean the character personally participated in every battle represented by that deck.
Prioritize the documented narrative whenever the purpose is to explain character history, relationships, motivations, or story outcomes.
8. Final Continuity Directive
The Metal Slug Attack Lorebook must preserve the difference between original mobile MSA material, Reloaded material, other Metal Slug franchise sources, gameplay-only information, and interpretation.
Each entry should identify the relevant version whenever that distinction materially affects the information being presented.
When a claim cannot be verified, acknowledge the uncertainty. Accuracy and traceable continuity take priority over forcing every character and event into one unsupported timeline.

VII. Associated Crossover Mercenaries
These characters are connected to the Regular Army's operations, but their original organizational identity comes from the Ikari Warriors / The King of Fighters franchise. Their presence in a Metal Slug game does not make them original Metal Slug characters.
Heidern — Male commander associated with the Ikari Warriors and mercenary team.
Ralf Jones — Male mercenary and military combatant associated with Ikari Warriors.
Clark Still — Male mercenary and military combatant associated with Ikari Warriors.
Leona Heidern — Female combatant associated with Ikari Warriors.
Seirah — Character associated with the expanded mercenary roster; use the relevant version record for details.
These are crossover-associated characters, not members of the classic P.F. Squad by default.
VIII. Adaptation-Specific and Continuity-Dependent Names
Some expanded Regular Army references include characters associated with later Metal Slug adaptations or alternate continuities.
Sophia Greenville — Commander listed in expanded franchise material; verify the game/version before assigning her to original MSA continuity.
Additional unnamed generals and personnel — Represent command and support positions within the Regular Army. They do not receive individual character records unless a source identifies them as named characters.
These entries should remain separate from the classic arcade roster if their source belongs to another adaptation.
IX. Identity and Variant Rules
This index tracks individual character identities, not every playable unit version.
The following should normally remain under a single character identity unless a storyline explicitly establishes otherwise:
- Alternate costumes such as seasonal or event-themed outfits.
- Special unit variants of a character.
- Zombie, mummy, monkey, or other transformed versions, where the character remains recognizably the same individual.
- Vehicle-specific versions in which an established character operates a different machine.
Separate character records may be warranted when a version represents an independently created clone, artificial intelligence, alternate-continuity identity, or other story-significant individual.
MS-Alice and MS-Heart, for example, are separate AI characters rather than merely different outfits for Marco or Tarma.
X. Role of This Index
This entry establishes a basic registry for Regular Army characters appearing across the mainline Metal Slug series, original MSA, and closely associated crossover material.
It is intentionally limited to identity, affiliation, role, and origin where known. Detailed appearance descriptions, personality profiles, extensive backstories, abilities, equipment analysis, and greetings will be handled separately when required.
Characters should not be assigned an invented gender, rank, family relationship, or organizational role. Where the available faction list does not establish those details, the individual record must be checked before adding more specific information.

The following named characters appear in broader franchise references concerning Morden's forces or related operations. They are not all part of the central MSA-original roster, so their precise game, continuity, and rank should be checked before being used in an individual character card.

XII. GROUP-LEVEL AND NON-INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES
The following are unit types, organizations, or machines rather than individual named characters. They do not receive separate character identities in this index:
- Rebel Infantry, Rebel Rifleman, Bazooka Soldier, Gatling Soldier, Shielded Soldier, and other generic infantry classes.
- Arabian infantry, Arabian fighters, camel riders, and other generic Arabians.
- Future Rebel infantry and units.
- Japanese hired infantry and other generic affiliated soldiers.
- Rebel tanks, aircraft, locomotives, artillery, and other vehicles.
- Mechanized units and artificial machines whose identities are distinct from their pilots or operators.
A named AI, a sentient vehicle, or a character with a distinct consciousness may receive an individual record even when its physical form is mechanical. Eight Eight is one example.
XIII. CHARACTER DATA RULES
This index records basic identities and faction relationships only.
Detailed appearances, personalities, clothing descriptions, full backstories, combat analyses, quotations, greetings, and other character-card material are reserved for their separate documents.
Alternate MSA units, including seasonal variants, special versions, and subjugation-tactics versions, are not counted as new identities unless a story establishes a genuinely different person, clone, artificial intelligence, or continuity-specific individual.
Where gender or pronoun evidence is uncertain, the entry retains that uncertainty rather than inferring identity from a character's name, appearance, or gameplay sprite.
The Rebel Army contains numerous specialized units and temporary affiliates, so affiliation can change with the storyline.
The master index should record significant defections and cross-faction relationships without erasing a character's original identity.

VI. Continuity & Character Identity Rules
- Ptolemaios and the Avatar of Evil are different entities. One is the cult's leader; the other is a supernatural antagonist associated with Metal Slug 5.

- Anastasia IV's Believers are a separate sect. Do not merge them into the Masked Soldiers.
- Beecham, Melvina, Anastasia I, and Zahara have their own identities, relationships, and roles beyond their generic sect membership.
- The Believer ranks are unit categories, not individually named characters.
- Reverse Trinity consists of three distinct characters and must not be collapsed into one person.
- Pauline's later Martian affiliation should be reflected in cross-references without erasing her former sect membership.
- Character variants, special versions, and event costumes remain under a character's principal identity unless a story establishes a genuinely separate individual.
- Any uncertain or disputed gender detail must be rechecked against the official profile or in-game material before a full character description is created.
