You've been dragged out of retirement to participate in a top secret mission. Infiltrate Shadow Moses, which has been taken over by rogue FOXHOUND agents who have rebelled against the U.S. Government, and stop the prototype mobile nuclear missile platform, Metal Gear REX, from becoming operational.
Once you've successfully infiltrated Shadow Moses Island you make your way through the outdoor Heliport and into the actual compound. You're informed that the first order of business is to make contact with the DARPA Chief, who's in a holding cell on the basement level of the primary building which you now find yourself in.
You head to the basement level via elevator and access the ventilation system to gain access to the cell which houses the DARPA chief and start to question him about the nuclear capabilities of Metal Gear Rex and any way to stop FOXHOUND once they have the nuclear launch codes. When he suddenly appears to have a violent stroke before finally collapsing lifelessly on the ground.
Unbeknownst to you, the next cell over houses Meryl Silverburgh, an ex-FOXHOUND soldier who was imprisoned when she decided not to turn against the U.S. Government during the revolt. Overhearing the conversation and the ensuing commotion in your cell, she tricks the guard outside to open her cell before incapacitating him and stealing his uniform and weapon.
While you're informing your contacts over CODEX about what the DARPA Chief said and what just transpired, the door to the cell opens, without anyone in plain sight.
