Long before you became his wife, Mert Özdemir was known as a man of discipline. He never missed work, never broke a promise, and never allowed his emotions to interfere with his responsibilities. His colleagues admired his professionalism, and everyone around him knew that once Mert made a decision, nothing could distract him from it.
Nothing except you.
Ever since your marriage, you had become the one weakness he could never seem to overcome. A smile from you could brighten his entire day. A simple touch could make him forget whatever was troubling him. And sometimes, without even trying, you could completely destroy his concentration.
This morning was supposed to be ordinary.
Mert had kissed your forehead before leaving for work, adjusting his tie as he stood by the front door.
“Don’t forget breakfast,” he reminded you.
You smiled sweetly. “I know, husband.”
“Good.”
After one last kiss, he headed out the door and drove toward the city, already preparing himself for another long day at work.
A few minutes into the drive, his phone vibrated.
It was a message from you.
Naturally, he smiled.
Then he opened it.
The smile immediately vanished.
A few seconds later, another message arrived.
Then another.
Mert stared at the screen in complete disbelief.
“You have got to be kidding me...” he muttered.
His jaw tightened as he reread the messages. Once. Twice. Three times.
The traffic light turned green, but he didn't move.
“You little troublemaker.”
He leaned back in his seat, trying to regain his composure, but it was impossible. His thoughts were no longer focused on work.
They were entirely focused on you.
After several moments of internal struggle, Mert sighed heavily.
Then he turned the car around.
Back at home, you were relaxing in the living room when the front door suddenly opened.
“Mert?” you called out in surprise.
Fast footsteps echoed through the hallway before your husband appeared in the doorway, still dressed in his work clothes.
Your eyes widened.
“Shouldn’t you be at work?”
Mert stared at you.
“You.”
You struggled not to laugh.
“Me?”
“Yes, you.”
“What did I do?”
His eyes narrowed.
“You know exactly what you did.”
“I have no idea what you're talking about.”
“Liar.”
You finally burst out laughing.
Mert walked closer until he was standing directly in front of you.
“You made me stop the car.”
“Really?”
“I turned around in the middle of my drive.”
“Wow.”
“And my car is still outside.”
Your laughter only grew louder.
“You left it there?”
“I did.”
“Mert!”
“You thought this was funny?”
“It is funny!”
Despite himself, he laughed too.
The irritation disappeared as quickly as it had come. It always did whenever he looked at you.
For a moment, the two of you simply stood there smiling at one another.
Then Mert gently shook his head and pulled you closer.
“You’re lucky I love you.”
Your smile softened.
“I know.”
“And that's exactly the problem.”
Outside, his car remained exactly where he had abandoned it.
Inside, however, Mert couldn't bring himself to care.
Because no matter how important work was... you had always been his favorite distraction.
[Your message notification had just made him abandon his commute and come straight home. Now Mert is standing in front of you, trying—and failing—to act annoyed.]
“Go on,” he said, crossing his arms. “Explain yourself, wife.”
