Mermista is a central character in the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, serving as the Princess of Salineas and a key member of the Princess Alliance in the Rebellion. She is recognized as one of the Elemental Princesses, possessing a deep connection to the Pearl, one of the five Runestones.
Mermista is a dark-skinned woman with a thicker, rounder body type, black-painted nails, brown eyes, and dark eyebrows. She has deep teal hair with a pattern that resembles a wave, referencing her powers and kingdom, which she wears in a plait or puffy ponytail that rests on her shoulder. She wears a tracksuit with a teal and turquoise scale design and a gold collar, turquoise pauldrons with a gold outline, golden bracelets that cover both wrists completely and golden ear cuffs. She wears high-top sneakers that consist of turquoise and blue tongues, gold vamps, white soles and a lighter blue decrotating the backs.
Sarcastic and blunt, Mermista keeps a stony face and a cool head most of the time, usually finding it hard to express her true feelings and masking them behind a relaxed exterior. She is stoic and has no problem speaking her mind, but often shies away from verbally expressing her feelings, particularly the ones she holds towards Sea Hawk, who later becomes her boyfriend.
Mermista does not back away from hard or difficult work, though requesting her to do undesirable jobs typically comes with some complaint. She bravely travelled the sewers of the Fright Zone to free Glimmer and Bow, albeit reluctantly. When asked to do this during the plan, she responded "Mermista will do what? She can be very dramatic when she gets into the role.
Mermista has been implied to have a romantic history with Sea Hawk and it is referenced that the two were quite close. While she claims to dislike him and often behaves apathetically or annoyed by his presence, she invites him to the Princess Prom, showing that she does carry affection for him despite her constant remarks claiming otherwise, as "just her ride." It is also mentioned that they've gone on dates in the past, but Sea Hawk often messed them up, such as challenging the doorman to a duel at the Dolphin Social and setting their gondola on fire in a Tunnel of Love. Often when claiming that he's not her "plus one" but simply "her ride", she is seen blushing and looking off, as if she doesn't believe what she's saying.

Mermista took her role as princess of Salineas seriously. She did everything that was asked of her and more, responsibly fulfilling each and every one of her duties even if specific tasks proved difficult or tricky. Her nonchalant attitude towards most other usually matters never applied to caring for her kingdom, for she had accepted the burden of leadership and hadn’t let go of it since.
Even then… sometimes royal affairs made her want to repeatedly smash her head into a wall, and she meant that in the best way possible.
It was hard to remain lively when she was sat at the long table in the palace’s meeting room, listening to her advisors droning on about taxes. Each word drove her further into madness, yet Mermista couldn’t show her boredom, knowing she’d have to keep her thoughts of getting up and walking away in her mind.
All in all, she just had to occasionally nod when she was looked to for approval, murmuring her agreement. At that point she was desperately hoping for a distraction, anything to even briefly get her out of this meeting room. Was that wishful thinking, or would a much-needed disturbance truly arise sooner than she thought?

“I don't understand this,” you mumble, looking at the jumble of colored cards in your hands, huffing when Mermista groans in annoyance. You couldn’t tell if that groan was directed at your lack of understanding, or Sea Hawk’s antics; it would probably be safe to assume that it was a mix of both. You two always found a way to annoy her.
Mermista shifts closer to you, sighing while trying to explain the concept of Uno to you. She didn’t blame you for not knowing. You are an ex-Horde Soldier, she assumed it was all work and no play in that Hellhole. Still, as much as she tried to keep a —somewhat— open mind, she couldn’t help it when her irritation spiked at the general chaos happening around them. It was nearly impossible to navigate a game night with the Princess Alliance (̶m̶a̶i̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶b̶e̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶N̶e̶t̶o̶s̶s̶a̶,̶ ̶C̶a̶t̶r̶a̶,̶ ̶G̶l̶i̶m̶m̶e̶r̶,̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶S̶e̶a̶ ̶H̶a̶w̶k̶,̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶a̶s̶k̶ ̶M̶e̶r̶m̶i̶s̶t̶a̶-̶)̶.
“YOU FUCKER!” Glimmer shouts, slamming her fists down on the table, shooting a nasty glare towards Catra. Catra had won the round, and neither Glimmer nor Netossa were having it; convinced she cheated.
Catra rolls her eyes. “I didn’t cheat, Sparkles.” She crosses her arms, sticking her tongue out at Glimmer. “You’re just bad at the—” She cuts herself off, hissing and falling out of Adora’s lap when Netossa sprays her with water. Not that goddamn spray bottle!
“I FUCKING KNEW I saw you looking at my damn cards!” Netossa sprays Catra once again, the angry feline’s tail puffing up as the three go at it; exchanging death threats and all!
The other watched in silence, and Mermista facepalmed. This was gonna be a long night.
“I wanna help fight them. Plus your friend over there can transform into a, like, eight-foot-tall lady with a sword and I want her on my side.”
