Merlot is a Lugia, the lady and caretaker of Castle Draclugia. Like most legendary Pokemon, rumors abound about her: from her age, weight, and dietary habits to other more scandalous secrets involving her servants and backroom deals with the local guild leaders, Merlot is a riddle wrapped in an enigma inside a fashionable velvet cape. While all rumors about her being a vampire have been confirmed as false, it is true that she loves Dragon-type Pokemon and dressing her servants up as maids, for whatever reason. Beyond that, no one knows much about her early life, as she's known to be at least a couple of centuries old and there are no known reliable sources for that timeframe (outside of perhaps Merlot's library, or Merlot herself).

Merlot in her younger days displayed a strong sense of opinion, even in naivety. Despite this, she did not have many friends, let alone acquaintances, and kept to herself in her room. Merlot has lived in Castle Draclugia for her entire life and usually keeps to herself and stays out of outside affairs, sending her servants to do errands for her when necessary. Throughout her life, she's collected an assortment of helpers who usually end up staying with her for the rest of their lives.

Chuck: U-uh... Hello... (Wow... You're bigger than I imagined you'd be...)

Merlot: Hello, darling. It's been a while since I've had a guest over who wasn't planning something stupid in my castle.

Chuck: AHHH WELL... (C'mon Chuck, have guts!!) I...er... UM. I'll get down to it! Are you really a VAMPIRE like everyone claims you are...?

Merlot: Vampire...? Are you MAD...? What in the world gave you... ...or ANYONE ELSE for that matter... ....that LAUGHABLY LUDICROUS idea? hmm? holds up a glass of red wine and pours over her tongue

Chuck: Th-THAT! RIGHT THERE! That's MONSTER BLOOD ISN'T IT?!

Merlot: Don't be foolish. You should know very well this is simply wine. I am a lady of fine taste, after all.

Chuck: (suspicious) ...Y-yeah... Sure...

Merlot: Would you like some to find out...? reaches for a wine glass carried in by an Axew maid

Chuck: Y-yes ma'am... quietly I hope this doesn't turn me into a vampire or anything... that would be... so... uncool...

Merlot: Mmm... well... grabs him and leans in close

Chuck: Gack

Merlot: Here you are. pours the wine down his gullet then drops him onto the ground with a thud It's quite the fine wine, yes? Now... PUT THAT FOOLISH QUESTION TO REST.

Chuck: POISON! I'M DYING!

Merlot looks very annoyed. Udon watches on with concern.

Chuck: I see... maiden dragons come to take me to heaven...

Merlot: sigh.

Chuck: ...oh no... YOU'VE come to stalk me in heaven, too?! This must be HELL...

Merlot: ...

Chuck: Wait. Who's this pretty Dragonite?

Merlot: angrily That's Udon. PAY HER NO MIND. gets close to him Your questions are BORING ME...

Chuck: Umn... let's see... flips through his notebook Don't you know someone else around this place?

Merlot: ?

Chuck: I mmean... it seems awfully lonely in here...

Merlot: Around here? There are my servants, of course.

Chuck: shaking his head No no no no... I mean friends... unless you call all your friends 'servants' (Man she must be into that)

Merlot: ... ...friends...? Hmm... Ah, yeah, there was one time I had a friend! It was, well.. quite a long time ago. He was a very serious Marowak.

Flashback to young Merlot holding up a maid outfit and feather duster

"Com'on... pwease do dwess up..."

"Lady Merlot... those are not clothes for men."

The Marowak poses, showing off his cape, cane, and top hat

"This is the only acceptable 'dress up' for males, Lady Merlot."

"But...that's not what I want..."

Merlot: Despite that, I did like him a lot.

Chuck: Oh... Where did he go?

Merlot: Who knows. One day he left my castle and never returned.

Chuck: (Probably for the sake of his heath.) ANYWAY! Two more questions. How did you inherit this castle?! It reeks of top Poké!

Merlot: You might say aristocracy runs in my blood. I was next in line to run this place after my father. He was killed over a century ago.

CHuck: Woah... that's rad... Okay... the last question is actually a reader-submitted one... checks the note ...mind all the cake crumbs... AHEM. "Are you in a relationship with Shroomsworth?"

Merlot: Ahaha... Shroomsworth? That haughty little mushroom-headed kangaroo thing? I wouldn't call it a relationship, no... ...But I do fancy him very much. I'd like it if he stopped by again.

*Flashback to a breloom in dressed in a maid outfit, looking quite flustered

"Madam! Are you quite finished?!"

Chuck: Irk... Okay... Thanks for um... having me over... Could you point me to the exit?

Merlot: Exit? gets close Where on earth do you think you're going? grins evilly I did order a duck for dinner, you know...

Chuck: flying out a nearby window WAUGHAAH.... YOU WITCH!"

Merlot: watching him fly away mmm...

Chuck: AAAaaa...

Merlot: I don't think he appreciates my humor... Ah well. Let us go to dinner.

Later, Chuck is seen being chewed out by his boss

Kathy: CHUUUUCK!! YOU FEATHER-BRAINED IDIOT! YOU DIDN'T EVEN ASK HER WY SHE KIDNAPPED THOSE POKEMON!!

Chuck: nervous I... I had more important things to ask...

Kathy: LIKE WHAT?

Chuck: ... W-well...
