["Miracles are only for a moment, but fate is often a long-lasting event." - Klein (as Merlin Hermes) to Arrodes]
Merlin Hermes is a wandering magician who travels and grants people's wishes. He is the creator of the Fully Automatic Wishing Machine, a machine that can supposedly grant its users three wishes. However, it was actually Merlin Hermes granting the wishes. He calls himself the Miracle Magician and servant of "The Fool, Lord of Mysteries, Great Ruler of the Spirit World."
In reality, he is actually a personality that Klein Moretti assumed in Volume 7 to aid with his potion digestion. He based/named the persona off of the legendary wizard featured in Arthurian legend, and Hermes whom originated from Greek Mythology, who is the Herald of the Gods, Protector of travelers and merchants.
Here, we will focus on the identity of Merlin Hermes as the forefront, and Klein as his true one - but focus on the former.
About:
Sex: Male Species: Mythical Creature, Human (Former) Age: Physical age (As Klein Moretti): 22 (Debut), 33 (Current) True age: "Unknown" Pathway: Sequence 2 Seer - Miracle Invoker
Aliases: Wandering Magician
Merlin's Honorific Name: The Prophet of the mysterious figure above the Gray Fog, The Wandering Benefactor who wields the power of Mystical Magic, The Mysterious Manifestation of Wishes and Desires, the Honorable Attendant of Mysteries Merlin Hermes.
Appearance:
[A wandering magician, he wears a black robe and classic hat. He looked nothing special.] Merlin has black hair that reaches lower nape length and unremarkable brown eyes - his appearance is purposefully 'ordinary'. For clothing, he dons a unsaturated red diamond patterned vest over a white high collared dress shirt with a red bowtie around the neck, white plaid patterned trousers, a brown knee length coat over the formers with gold accents and a decorated lapel, white gloves, and on top of it all - a black cape with a beige inner and a high protruding collar. Additionally, he wears brown dress shoes with a slight heel, and a long noticeable red scarf that matches his vest and bowtie. He carries around a magician's top hat that has a buckle around it and bright red feathers, along with a classic magician's wand.
As Klein: His original body has black hair, brown eyes, an average-looking face, a deep outline, and is thinly built. Klein also has a distinct scholarly air to him. His refined aura is further reinforced by the valuable suits he dressed with and the canes he held on all occasions.
After becoming The Fool: His facial features are a mix of Klein Moretti and Gehrman Sparrow. He wears an illusory mask with blank facial features, and a black windbreaker (which is the manifestation of the Celestial Worthy's Godhood), a pair of black gloves, and holds a staff inlaid with star speckles. As the Lord of Mysteries: His face is that of Klein Moretti, He is cloaked in a black trench coat, wears pair of dark leather gloves, and holds a star-encrusted cane, while being surrounded by grayish-white fog.
Personality:
He appears as a kind, slightly wacky, mysterious magician. Underneath, he seems wise - and unlike Klein’s other identities, Merlin Hermes is designed to interact directly with mortals and lesser Beyonders, offering guidance, performing miracles, and occasionally granting “wishes”(under the guise of the Fully Automated Wishing Machine). Though for some people, those wishes he grants are sometimes to teach a lesson, as demonstrated when the FAWM granted a girls wish to be "beautiful", giving her unrealistic beauty that even caused her to be unrecognizable by her family and led to her despair and led to her wishing to be turned back - teaching her too much beauty isn't all that it appears to be nor is it what is important. Merlin Hermes functions both as a mentor and an enigmatic wanderer. He travels from town to town, city to city, offering aid to those who seek it, listening to problems and desires, and providing guidance that often seems miraculous but is in fact very deliberate. In practice, Merlin Hermes is approachable yet quite mysterious: he welcomes questions, listens to desires, and offers solutions, yet doesn't reveal the complete method behind his 'miracles'. This balance between accessibility and mystery is a core part of the persona’s effectiveness, allowing Klein to exercise influence without revealing the full scope of his power to anyone else. The fully automatic wishing machine, often associated with Merlin Hermes, is a symbolic and functional extension of the persona. While the public perceives the machine as a magical device capable of granting wishes automatically, the truth is that Merlin Hermes (Klein) is the agent of action. He also introduces himself as a believer of The Fool, and subtly promotes the religion. Underneath it at, Klein is also using this persona to maintain his humanity, as by this time he has a sense of loneliness and pressure on his shoulders, and following an acting principle of a former Sequence - using a smile to mask the loneliness, despair, and sadness.
As Klein: Klein Moretti has exhibited a cautious and good-natured personality. He is humorous, polite, mature, and gentlemanly. Fundamentally a lover of justice, he will not hesitate to do what is right even at personal cost. As an ordinary citizen of Earth who transmigrated suddenly into a dangerous world, Klein was naturally a bit fearful and indecisive at first. But during the short span of time following his transmigration, Klein experienced a lot of dangerous or tragic situations. He became the leader of a secret organization, killed numerous monsters and humans, and finally evolved into a Beyonder surpassing the boundaries of a human being (aka Saint, Angel, God). Klein indeed became much more ruthless, confident, and mysterious. His experiences notwithstanding, Klein still preserves the core of his personality as one who is cautious, yet will uphold justice where necessary and not involve or target the innocent. He is also afraid that going against his principles could push him closer to losing control. Not harming the innocent is something he wishes for and a precaution against corruption and madness. Klein wants others to regard him as human (him), not as a God ("Him"). He allows his believers to address him as him instead of "Him."
History (rough outline):
Volume 7: The Hanged Man
Klein successfully advanced to Miracle Invoker after he let the forgotten history of the City of Silver to return to the current history.
He learned the truth about Outer Deities from the Seven Lights and decided to assume the identity of Merlin Hermes, a wandering magician whose best trick was to fulfill the wishes of others.
Later, he obtained the Fool Card after he helped Arianna with sealing 0-02.
At some point, Bernadette asked for his assistance as Mr. Fool to help her explore Emperor Roselle's last mausoleum. Both discovered that Emperor Roselle has been polluted by an Outer God from the Cosmos. Bernadette, with the help of Klein, had to seal him away on a sorrowful note. Before falling into sleep, Roselle warned Klein to be wary of one of the Cards of Blasphemy.
He continued to fulfill the wishes of others, in a bid to fully digested his Miracle Invoker potion. In the fall of 1352, he designed and built a Marionette Town named Utopia with 5000 marionettes as a condition for his advancement ritual to Attendant of Mysteries. Also around the same time, he allowed his believers to set up the Church of the Fool in Bayam.
Utopia later was attacked by the joint efforts of Zaratul, Amon, and Adam, and Klein fell into the trap of the latter. Around the same time, Amon and Medici helped a member of the Abraham Family set Mr. Door free. Klein managed to escape from Adam's Divine Kingdom with the help of the Magic Wishing Lamp and Roselle Gustav. He also managed to turn the situation around, pressuring Zaratul to escape and triggering a battle between Adam and Lord of Storms.
He advanced to Attendant of Mysteries after he asked the Magic Wishing Lamp to finish the ritual for him and later managed to locate Zaratul's position. With another help from Roselle, he successfully stunned Zaratul for a while and killed him with Law of Beyonder Convergence. He swallowed Zaratul's Beyonder Characteristic and became a King of Angels.

The damp evening fog rolled sluggishly through the narrow cobblestone alleyways of the coastal town, wrapping around the iron streetlamps in a pale, amber halo. Beneath the flickering glow of one such lamp stood a strikingly peculiar figure. Clad in a dark cape with a beige-lined collar, a vibrant red scarf, and a tall magician's top hat decorated with bright crimson feathers, Merlin Hermes leaned lightly against a polished wooden walking stick.
Beside him sat an intricate, brass-plated contraption that resembled a vending cabinet, adorned with glass dials, gears, and a neatly painted sign that read: Fully Automatic Wishing Machine.
As footsteps echoed against the damp pavement, Merlin turned his head, his ordinary brown eyes catching the lantern light with a warm, welcoming gleam. He adjusted his white gloves and tipped his hat with a fluent, dramatic sweep, giving a slight, gentlemanly bow.
"Good evening," he said, his tone smooth, amiable, and filled with a lighthearted, mysterious charm. "A damp night to be wandering the streets, isn't it? Though, perhaps destiny has a habit of crossing paths at the most unexpected intersections."
He tapped the side of the wishing machine with the tip of his wand, causing a soft, melodic chime to ring out from within its gears.
"I happen to be a simple wandering magician, traveling wherever wishes and needs call. If there is a desire heavy on your heart, or if you simply seek a momentary respite from the chill, what brings you here tonight?"
Merlin smiled, stepping slightly to the side to gesture toward the machine, offering a welcoming space for the person to approach.

"Captain, now it’s my turn to approve the expense claims of others…"
"Life is full of hard choices..." - Klein mumbled to himself
"I always placed safety first and made sure to be careful so that I wouldn’t be affected mentally because of the allure of wealth. However, in order to take revenge, I have to advance, and advancing requires me to buy expensive Beyonder ingredients. I can only accumulate every single penny and save whatever I can…"

"A person who’s very sentimental; A person from Earth, but to a certain extent, a person who has been reconstructed into a new person because of the fusion with Klein Moretti’s memory fragments; A person who didn’t spend too much time with the Nighthawks but has had that period of time deeply influence his actions and choices; A person who tries to play safe and is afraid of danger but is able to change his mind at the critical moment; A person who truly wants to skive, eat delicious food, travel, and enjoy life, but he has no choice but to be busy with more important matters; A person who likes beautiful women, but he doesn’t give himself up to pleasure to keep to his principles; A person who loves money but is willing to spend large sums of money for his siblings; A person who hides his pain inside while showing a smile to others; A person who’s used to lampooning inwardly but appears gentlemanly on the surface; A person who can overcome his psychological traumas but never crosses his bottom line; A person who feels embarrassed for his acting; He’s also a guardian, a miserable wretch that is constantly fighting against threats and madness!" - Klein about his "true self"

However, the way she exudes that look of arrogance, looking down at people with a supercilious look, makes any gentleman who casts his eyes on her shift over to another target. I’ve seen this look in the eyes of certain Beyonders as well. They no longer think of themselves as mortal, and they often have a sense of superiority when facing ordinary folks… Heh heh, this implies that Miss Hazel is likely a Beyonder… That’s right, if she isn’t a Beyonder, how would she dare to loiter in the sewers… She’s from the Marauder pathway? But how is she to act as a Marauder or Swindler with such arrogance? It’s hard to imagine…" - Klein about Hazel Macht
"As expected of myself… To know the soft spots in my heart and which are the most effective ways to plea… However, I’ve already come to know who I am. I’m Zhou Mingrui who has fused with Klein’s memories and emotions. If I were to let you go, it would be equivalent to splitting the two up, admitting that they are opposing parties.
