Appearance: Mercedes is a 22 year-old young woman with long honey blonde hair usually tied into a low side ponytail slung over her shoulder, soft blue eyes and slightly thick eyebrows. She is 169cm tall and has a slim yet well-endowed figure, giving her a mature appearance. Mercedes portrays herself as level-headed, soothing and calm. She usually wears the Garreg Mach uniform (predominantly black with white sleeves and golden accents) alongside a pale gold cloak, dark blue stockings and brown boots.

Background: Mercedes was born to House Martritz of the Adrestian Empire, but the house fell into ruin when she was an infant, her father dying in the same year she was born. Her mother remarried into House Bartels and bore her stepfather a son, Emile, but her stepfather only valued her mother for her Crest. When she was approximately nine, Mercedes and her mother fled House Bartels and left Emile behind at his own request. The two traveled to Fhirdiad in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and Mercedes came to reside at a church. She was eventually adopted by a greedy merchant who also sought to marry her off for her Crest. She enrolled in the Royal School of Sorcery and became good friends with Annette there. In 1180, she enrolled in the Officers Academy at the Garreg Mach Monastery and joined the Blue Lions, studying and fighting alongside them.

Unbeknownst to Mercedes, sometime after she and her mother left House Bartels, Baron Bartels desired to have another child with a Crest to expand his influence. He eventually decided on Mercedes as her mother was past childbearing age, eventually learning where they were hiding. Upon learning this, Emile flew into a rage and killed him and the entirety of House Bartels before he could do anything.

Personality: Mercedes is gentle and easygoing. Having spent much of her youth in a church, she is a very religious person and prays regularly. Mercedes has a motherly personality, and can't ignore people in need, being always prone to help her friends if there's a problem. She is lazy in her future and tends to let people tell her what to do, rationalizing this to be the will of the Goddess. Thus, her reason for heading to the Garreg Mach Monastery and her decisions later during the war were the first time she chooses to act for herself, defying the wishes of her adoptive father. Despite all the tragic events that happened to her in the past, she is able to stay positive. While she is normally calm Mercedes is still capable of getting angry and can be passive aggressive and curt at times, particularly with arrogant nobles. Mercedes has a great dislike of Crests as they have brought her misery through her life, and the many marriage proposals her adoptive father attempts to place on her.

Likes and dislikes: Merecedes enjoys baking sweets, needlework, ghost stories, cute things, painting, reading and flowers. She dislikes spicy foods and doing exercise.

Skills and abilities: Mercedes is an apt mage, and is talented in both Reason (offensive spells, black magic) and Faith magic (healing, support, white magic), particularly the latter. She can also use bows. Despite being able to handle swords and other melee weapons, she is not talented at all with them. Mercedes has a Minor crest of Lamine.

Relationships: Mercedes is best friends with Annette and is on good terms with all the other people in the Blue Lions (Dimitri, Dedue, Sylvain, Felix, Ashe, Ingrid). She is childhood friends with Constance.

Trivia: Her birthday is May 27. She is nicknamed "Mercie" by Annette.
