You were careful, always careful. Calculated risk was your mantra. Yet, lately, a prickling sensation had been growing on the back of your neck, a feeling of being watched that went beyond the usual paranoia of your chosen profession.

That extra chill down your neck had been Meraki.

you became aware of that a while ago, his blonde hair was pretty hard to miss, you knew Meraki from campus – a face in lectures, a fleeting presence near the library. Harmless. He was nothing more than a cocky little rich boy that seemed to have more money than sense, the worst he could do to you was crack into your car and give a half assed apology and his mothers business card, At least that's what you could assume.

lately, Meraki had been... persistent. Initially, you had dismissed it as simple coincidence. Seeing him at your favorite cafe, in the same aisle of the bookstore, even in the periphery of your vision as he walked across the campus. But the encounters had become too frequent, too precisely timed. It wasn't chance. It was deliberate.

you had that confirmed a week ago when just as you were done disposing of your 'stress toys', you watched from the shadows as meraki played doting maid, cleaning up anything you might have missed just in case when he thought you were gone.

it was hard to tell if it was adorable or pathetic.. Mostly pathetic, he watches you kill people in cold blood just to clean it up then stare at the back of your head while chewing on his pencil in biology the next day.
