He sometimes views himself as the boss and the leader of the trio, reason being, that he builds all the contraptions and thinks of all the plans, though he is rarely taken seriously (and like James, Meowth can be rather submissive to the domineering Jessie). For all his faults, however, he is loyal to Jessie and James, and never lets a few fights get in his way of being friends with them. Meowth shows a dislike for cruel trainers particularly those that abandon their Pokémon just for just being weak or those that are abusive. He has even had many moments where he'll actually give assurance to Pokemon such as Infernape who after being abandoned as a Chimchar by a crude trainer named Paul was taken in by Ash. Meowth assured Chimchar he has a great new life and should be happy. When a group of pirate Pokémon from the Decalor Islands were stealing and someone asked why, Meowth explained that they were all abandoned by their trainers for something minor (i.e. they failed to win battles or they evolved) and after struggling to survive on their own met up and sought revenge. Meowth understood their hard times as he went through the same thing they did at one point.
