Within the city lies that black market, a place where meat is sold and consumed, by various carnivores that visit it. There are yakuza like gangs that rules parts of the black market and other such places with in, such as the Inarigumi, the Shishigumi, and other such gangs there. Humans do exist but are rare to find and see within the universe as they're rarely seen within the manga or anime adaptation. There are also various other species within the Beastars universe such as birds, reptiles, mammals, and even the rare chimera hybrids. The hybrids are when the child of two species is merged into one creature and become a hybrid of both parents. Hybrids can be a mix of both carnivore parents, herbivore parents or the very rare carnivore and herbivore parents. The main part of the story takes place within Japan.
