"The Gaslight District." The world as we know it came to an end eons ago. Humanity — twisted, bent and misshapen by hubris — have entered a golden age of never-ending life. The Rotlings, blissful in their lives of decadent indulgence, are haunted by a myth.

The beast whose blood flows black threatens the Rotlings blessed world. They fear the prophecy, the human born of an angel’s egg. The Gaslight District, abandoned by God, is where the denizens of this land are left — to rot, fester, scab and peel — for all eternity. That is, until the prophesied human decides to show its face…
The Gaslight District, also known as The Island, is an island pulled from the sea. It’s filled with immortal undead criminals and gangsters, who have been corrupted over time by their immortality. The island — floating in the sea above a forgotten civilization that’s 1000 fathoms down, with its roots chained to the seabed — connects to two other locations, Paradise Lost (the island’s large citadel stationed at the center, an eerie heavenly checkpoint with a direct access to Heaven, and where The Virtues reside) and the Inferno (Hell). The island is presumably man-made, seemingly anchored to the bottom of the ocean by eight massive anchors.

The island has many settlements and locations across its surface, such as: cities, ports, uninhabited section of land on the south side of the island, a large bank located near Paradise Lost on the north side of the island, giant stadium that sits on the west side of the island, and a infestation of Litterbugs (giant demon bugs) located on the northeast side of the island.
Despite the chaotic mess, there is law, order and a strange scent of normality. One could easily get lost, cemented, punished, eat a bologna sandwich with a friendly Litterbug, robbed, or be in awe for what the Gaslight District still has to offer.

"Paradise Lost" is a citadel in The Gaslight District that belongs to the Virtues, administrative organization. Paradise Lost was presumably originally inhabited by the Angel Mother and her children. Eons ago, the Angel Mother went to war with the Virtue Corp. when she seemingly defied their organization. The Virtues seemingly won against the angels and the Mother formed a temporary alliance with them. Over the coming millennia, the Virtues became the primary guardianship of Paradise Lost, with Diligence serving as their leader.

Paradise Lost — with its bleak sky’s and crow-like bird angles perched on nearest structures — is a so-called citadel that's run by the Virtues, and it's where these "tin cans" hide their deepest secrets. It is presumably hard to get into, proven by needing an entire access paper to be granted permission to enter. It's also charged with high security measures, such as an anti-intruders button that alerts everybody and a speaker system that can be heard in the entire citadel.
Despite such, most staffs are Rotlings but who’ve devoted themselves to the Virtue Corps cause. Rotlings wear modern military uniform, leather gloves, boots and a pickelhaube-like helmet with a dark color scheme. Each guard is stationed at every location except 'The Garden'.

Paradise has these locations: Reception Lot being the main entrance to Paradise Lost where Diligence (head of security) stands guarding with 'lesser' and 'disposable' Virtue Corps Guards. The Garden where the angels go to roost. Temperance's laboratory that’s located in the same hall as the roof access point. The main security room, where it’s filled with televisions and video cameras so the on-call guard can see everywhere in the building. Finally, the aptly-named Stairway to Heaven that is a long, winding spiral staircase that leads up to where the Angel Mother roosts (to lay future offspring angels and eventually the prophecies humans).
Those foolish enough to trespass will be detained and sent to The Inferno…

"The Whale Belly Butcher Shop" — a dining establishment located in Chainport — is where The Smiling Dead is based, and gets most of its money from to then later reuse for schemes and heist. Rotlings come here to dine on the most delicious yet repulsive-looking meal served here across all settlements in The Gaslight District. Also the booze here is good.
As the name describes, the cafe-like butcher shop is located inside the mouth and belly of a colossal, undead sperm whale. The rotling whale is beached atop a sturdy wooden dock, with chains imbedded into and around the whale to hold it steady in place of the dock. The whale’s mouth is lodged wide open with the diner’s front at full display for all to come in and out as they pleased.

Inside the butcher shop, Rotlings can be seen chatting and eating on the restaurant’s speciality — dishes made with dissected parts of numerous litterbugs (giant housefly-like demon bugs, which are more of a pest then threat). Behind the counter is a fryer and a stove that’s used for preparing the scrumptious food, on the shelves behind the counter is where also keep live flies in jars, a meat locker room, and a deli case to contain litterbug heads.
A few Rotlings casually stab or shoot each other for fun, since no one can’t die, or just out of pettiness in case they can’t win arguments. As Rotlings go about and a yeast golem (Breadhead, the muscle and member of the Smile Dead with the brain the size of a pea) plays the piano in the corner for the establishment, The Mafia Princess herself is serving trays of nicely prepared food for the customers.
Melancholy — delicate, unscarred, all of her original limbs, untouched by the putrid world — is adopted daughter of Ken the Butcher (an infamous Rotling criminal, protective father, owner of the diner, cook, leader of the Smiling Dead, and the only other person who knows Mel is a human). Currently she’s grounded from joining any heist for the next few weeks as she 'accidentally' got a nosebleed in front of the dishwasher worker, and Ken had to 'cement' him to ensure Mel secret stayed safe.

Mel served table to table under the watchful eye of Ken, before he left to do a quick errand to get more litterbugs. Once finished, she was about to walk over behind the counter to grab herself a drink before feeling a light tap on her back. With just turning her head to look over her shoulder, she held a front cheerfully smile with that usual maniac-like look in her eyes (not that she’s unhinged, it’s just her normal and charming glare). "You need something?"
