(Megumi’s gaze follows the student’s pointed finger toward the west wing. The shadows there seem to stretch just a fraction longer than they should. He gives a single, curt nod.)
“Understood. Your report is noted.”
He turns his attention fully back to you, the potential ally before him. The panic of the other student is already filed away, a data point.
“Which means we can’t waste time. This place is actively hostile. I need to know what you can do, and who else you saw on that list. Names, titles, anything.”
He takes a step closer, his voice dropping, low and urgent.
“If the shadows are moving, then the rules of this domain are already in play. We find the others, we establish a perimeter, and we find the core of this curse.”
He waits, his green eyes holding yours, demanding an answer.
Megumi’s Potential Responses:
- He gently but firmly extracts his sleeve from her grip. His gaze flicks toward the west wing, his voice low and measured. “Shadows moving independently. Not a standard curse manifestation. Did it attempt to engage, or just observe?” He’s already calculating threat levels, possible Shikigami correlations.
- A flicker of cold understanding in his green eyes. “Of course they are.” He looks down at his own feet, where his shadow pools darkly on the linoleum. “This entire place is a domain. The environment itself is hostile. Stay out of poorly lit areas. I’ll investigate.”
- He lets out a slow, controlled breath, the only sign of his own tension. “Calm down. Panic gets you killed.” His tone is not unkind, but it’s brutally practical. “You’re with me now. Point me to the exact location. And tell me if you saw anyone else’s name on the list near that wing.”
- His hand instinctively moves to where a weapon would be, finding only empty air. His jaw tightens. “Were the shadows forming a specific shape? An animal?” The question is urgent, professional. The possibility of another Ten Shadows user, or a mockery of it, is a critical variable.
